Do you see this man?
He is a good example of what someone looks like after going over their bike handlebars and landing headfirst on concrete.
Here is Steve’s account of the incident that he posted on FB last night:
Research Findings: Sir Isaac Newton was correct. His laws of motion are still operative and, for those who were wondering, gravity is still real. I confirmed it all today by gracefully sailing over the handlebars of my Cannondale bicycle onto the bike path. Grateful for the helmet. Saw stars, cut hand, cut face, nose bleed, bruised ego. Thankful it was a small bump. Grateful for the guy who stopped and helped me get up; I suspect he was one of Newton’s distant relatives. And now I think I’ll crawl into the fetal position and whimper awhile.
I know that you can easily imagine along with us the sorts of serious injuries that could easily have happened–broken neck, broken limbs, concussion, brain trauma, etc. Thankfully his helmet took the brunt of the hit.
He is very stiff and sore and still a little swollen but he woke up counting his blessings. We are thankful!
Also, since we’re talking about medical-ish stuff, I had blood work done this week and although my platelet count is still way below normal, it is holding steady and not dropping any further. So my rheumatologist will check it again at my next visit and monitor it from there. I think that as long as it doesn’t go any lower than it is, he’s okay with it.
Summer just got a fresh haircut and she looks so glamorous I can’t help but show her off a little. I hope these photos bring a smile to your face and a dance to your heart!
(And by the way, I don’t know if I’ve ever mentioned that her given name is Shiloh Summertime, hence the title of this post.)
This is a classic Summer expression which basically means,“Would you just stop taking all those pictures already?”
Shy. Sweet . . .
Summer.
I love looking at the full length of her gorgeous coat. I wish my hair looked half that good. (Hmmm. Maybe I should go to her groomer and get it done there!)
Canine contemplations.
Ever get the feeling . . .
you’re being watched?
Before she left for school, Sarah spent some time hanging out with Summer. The two of them are good buds.
We love our little lady!
Summer you are looking so lovely 🙂
Becky how is Sarah doing? Is she still writing stories? How is this school year going? You know it been a while since you posted a post about what is going on in your adult’s daughter’s life 🙂
Trine,
Thanks for checking in on Sarah! She’s doing great–enjoying school and getting good grades. She’s still not know exactly what she’s going to be doing when she gets out of school but we’re keeping our options open. I’ll try to do a Sarah Post soon!
I’m glad Steve is okay too, back when I was 7, many, many moons ago, before bicycle helmets were invented, I was down at the Jersey shore for the summer and hit a patch of light sand while riding my bicycle, the bike stopped, I didn’t and went catapaulting over the handlebars much like Steve did, I ended up breaking my nose, chipping my front tooth (which has just grown in after 6 months) and have permanent stars on my elbows and knees…..
Dale,
Wow–that would be a scary thing for a 7-year old! It’s hard to believe that “back in the day” NO ONE wore helmets. Like you said, they weren’t even invented then! (Or if they were, they weren’t widely available.) Even though a helmet is a bit of a hassle to mess with, it sure makes me feel a lot more confident when I’m riding!
Glad to know you’re story had a happy ending!
I’m so glad Steve is ok! And really glad he was wearing a helmet! Hope the healing is quick. Summer looks gorgeous after her haircut. She is such a precious little girl.

Gayle,
Yes–hooray for helmets and husbands wise enough to wear them! 🙂 I agree. Summer is one gorgeous, glamorous gal!
Poor Steve! I hope you already took your Christmas card photo! So now you have to get a new helmet, yup. I’m so glad you are OK, on the whole. And Summer sweetly shimmers.
Lesley,
A new helmet will definitely have to be on our shopping list! And I love all the “S’s” in your last line–cute!
OUCH!! Steve didn’t say what made him head over the handlebars. when I was a kid I tried to stand up to pedal, and the chain didn’t hold the pedals in place, and they went spinning around, and I ended up looking quite a bit like Steve… no helmets in those days. but, maybe I fell sideways and didn’t quite land on my head.
Summer looks quite festive in her Christmasy ribbon. She really is a sweetheart!
Mrs. Pam,
Ouch is right. Steve’s accident was caused by loose handle bars that suddenly rotated forward while he was braking.
Can you believe any of us survived childhood without bicycle helmets, seat belts, or car seats? Things have sure changed!
Oh, my, Steve. Thank God you were wearing a helmet. ALWAYS wear those helmets. My daughter was saved many times by her helmet when her horse launched her various ways. Scary stuff but so happy you are none worse for the wear.
I must say the close ups of Summer are much more attractive than Steve! She is a beauty and I have rarely seen a dog with so much expression. Maybe it is those huge dark eyes. So glad she came into your life and you into hers and that Sarah and Shiloh Summertime (love that name) are good buddies. Snowy sent his opposite – girl, named Summer – to fill your hearts again – he did an excellent job.
Mary,
I agree about the close ups of Summer being a little more inspiring than the close up of Steve! 🙂
I think people who ride horses and keep on getting on again and again after being thrown off are very, very brave. Once would be enough for me–I’d be runnin’ for the hills!
