Note: Before we get started, I want to mention that I am a featured guest poster today on a wonderful blog called Gray Hair and Acne. Be sure to stop by.
And now on to this week’s Wedding Wednesday . . .
One of the spots that Meagan and Nathan definitely wanted to include in our photo shoot was the bridge that crosses the bay in downtown Manteo.
And so off we went! One groom. One bride. One bridge.
These two pictures sum up Nathan’s teasing, quirky personality so well. I can’t look at them without smiling.
And then crying.
Because the chubby, cheery toddler-esque face that I remember so well from the past has mysteriously morphed into a man’s face. A truly grown up man’s face.
But the one thing that hasn’t changed? The twinkle in his eye and that sideways grin. I. Love. That. Boy. (Man.)
The happy recipient of the flowers.
I was hoping for a little wind during the session so that we could get a little dramatic movement in the photos. Well, we got us some wind!
Here are the shots that Sarah, my lovely assistant photographer took at the bridge location.
I look like I am really pouring out my heart to Nathan and Meagan about something as I’m putting on my camera. I have no idea what I was saying but I’m sure it was incredibly important, enlightening and life altering. (Or maybe I was just saying that I really, really had to go to the bathroom. Who knows?)
I especially love Sarah’s perspective in these three shots.
After the windy bridge photo walk, Nathan got his bride installed safely back into the Smith Mini Van so that we could go on to the next stop of our Photo Tour which was a downtown restaurant. Come back next Wednesday to read all about it!
Remember on Friday I’ll include a poll so that we can have an official vote on the “Read More” option. And as long as no one votes me in to be president, I’ll be happy with whichever way the poll goes.
Just read your “guest” entry and it was tremendous as usual. Didn’t leave a comment there but decided to come back here for it. What a gift you have, Becky! A photographer and writer all in one and Sarah following in your footsteps. I’m sure Steve is the “glue” that holds you two together. Wonderful family. My, how God is using all of you in His field white unto harvest.
Thank you, Ann. You and Jim are always such an encouragement!
Wonderful pictures!!! I am a “weddingholic” and always enjoy everything about a wedding–pictures, words, etc. You know we have ask you before about writing a book from Sarah’s site. If you do, be sure to let us know. Cards are lovely–not sure I want to part with them to send to others. Thanks.
Forgot to mention that the wedding wednesday pictures are amazing. I just love Wedding Wednesdays, they really make my day 🙂
Hi Becky, I just went over to the other blog as well, your writings are absolutely beautiful and touch my heart everytime I read them. (they always bring a smile to my face or a tear to my eye as well). I can’t thank you enough for sharing the storey of amazing Sarah and the incredible family that she has right there beside her. Sarah is one lucky little lady and you are an incredibly awesome family. (the picture of you and sarah is soooo nice, I just love it).
Nancy, thanks so much for your sweet words. Also glad to hear you’re still enjoying Wedding Wednesdays; it’s been a fun thing to do!
Becky,
I have just finished reading Sarah’s Journal History; it is such beautiful, heart-wrenching story and so beautifully written by you and Steve – why don’t you publish it?
I agree, anonymous. I believe that every journal entry written during the time of Sarah’s treatment, remission, relapse, and long standing remission (which we know is her total healing) would make a wonderful compilation of stories, observations, and anecdotes about a family’s journey through the most unspeakable illness and the most gracious depiction of what unbridled faith can do to overcome fear and bring forth great rewards. The writing is always poignant, touching, gut-wrecing, powerful and a wonderful testimony to faith and to our God who never fails. Please, let’s all encourage Betsy to start compiling the best of the best of their story. While her current blog is a wonderful pictorial and amusingly exciting account of the life and times of this precious family, nothing–no, nothing–can touch the significance of that time in their lives, a time that was so brilliantly chronicled by a mother who never gave up believing that God had a plan.
Becky, hear the Holy Sprit moving through us as we encourage you to put together this book. Think of all your readers and how they would welcome the opportunity to purchase this book as a reminder of what the human spirit and the very “human” God can do when working together.
Sue, you can certainly be wonderfully persuasive when you put your mind to it; your words always bring such life and encouragement. truly do love my writing from those days–deep pain brings forth the kind of writing that can’t be birthed any other way.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again–anyone who takes the time and effort to go back and read through Sarah’s entire journal history is an extra special Smithellaneous family member. Those posts contain a whole lot of words!!
I have thought at different times of publishing some of that but am not quite sure how or where to begin. Thanks for the reminder and the encouragement.
Well, I went to the other blog and read what you wrote. It was, as it always is when you write about Sarah, poignant, touching, and very expressive of that special mommy love that you so wonderfully display. I couldn’t leave a comment because in order to do so they wanted me to create an account. Honestly, why should I give personal information to create an account for something I am only going to use once???? Drives me nuts.
At any rate, I thoroughly enjoyed reading your post. Just wanted you to know.
Thanks, Sue for taking the time to drop on over there and read. And your words of encouragement are always, always so much appreciated.
Becky i love Wedding Wednesday and really wish it could go on forever! I went and checked your guest post out and that was truly moving. I have been blessed that my children have all been healthy so I can not say I understand how you felt at that moment . I thank God that I can say that but what I can understand is the love that you can feel for your child, a love like no other in the world. Your words and the raw emotion within those words are so beautiful. God bless your family. You all have been such an inspiration to so many. Thank you!
Dana, you are so right that the love that we feel for our children is like no other love in the world. There is something so incredibly special about “mama love!” Glad you’ve been enjoying Wedding Wednesday; it is pretty fun, isn’t it? 🙂
now i have to ask…ive wondered this not only with wedding dresses but even back in the olden days the dresses woman wore, becuase i am at the moment reading books by Anne Perry def someone you should check out if you like mysteries and olden days. but the question i had was wouldn’t all this traveling get the bottom of the dress dirty???
Becky, yes her dress did get just a teeny bit dirty on the bottom; I don’t know for sure, but I would imagine she’ll have it cleaned before storing it.
And yes, I have wondered also about the women in the olden days who wore long dresses. Seems like they would be continually dirty and since washing stuff back then was quite the challenge, they probably stayed pretty grimy. Glad I live now and now then.
Gail, my lips are sealed. As far as I’m concerned, you’ve been workin’ every minute!
love, love love Wedding Wednesdays, now I can go back to work, oops, don’t tell anybody I am not working. On the guest post, Becky, only a mother could see and feel your heartbreak at that moment.
