Last week, Steve and I took our evening walk at the Manteo waterfront.
It was just a regular ol’ evening walk until Steve decided to get up close and personal with the underside of the dock.
I am married to a very curious man and this man was determined to discover how the piping was set up underneath the dock.
So he just decided to lie down and take a look!
Another than that interesting little side light, it was a pretty normal (and lovely) evening walk.
The downtown lighthouse is one of the most photographed places in Manteo and I’m always on the lookout for different perspectives from which to photograph it. Here are a few shots I nabbed during our walk. (All photos taken with iPhone.)
And now we will move from the subject of lighthouses to the subject of chocolate.
A few days ago I went into my office at church and found this box waiting for me on my desk. I recognized the name on the return address, Kristina Creek, as one of my faithful blog readers and commenters but I had no clue as to what she might be sending us.
It didn’t take long to find out!
Kristina had taken a trip to the U.K. and, remembering how much Sarah and I love all things British AND that we love chocolate and tea, she had thoughtfully put together a gift box for us.
Although the treats themselves were delectable, I was especially impressed with the packaging.
It took me a minute to figure out how it all worked on this particular package but I quickly discovered that . . .
the gold part on the inside slid out of the outer sleeve.
And then it opened like this. I can’t begin to describe to you how good this chocolate is. And the fact that it was so creatively packaged made it taste all the better.
Since chocolate is my true love, I neglected to include the tea in my pictures. Sarah, however, was delighted to receive the container of genuine English tea and immediately brewed herself a cup. It brought a beautiful smile to her face where just minutes before, she had been near tears from the lingering jaw pain from her oral surgery. I was so glad to see the contents of this wonderful goody box light up her lovely face. (By the way, that was several days ago; she is just about pain free now.)
I’ve always thought I had the best blog readers in the world and this just confirms it.
Thank you, Kristina for thinking of us and brightening our day. We loved our surprise!
Beautiful pictures and a wonderful gift. In the 4th picture there are some buildings in the background. Are those condos?
Diane,
Yes, there is very lovely housing right there on the water. Wouldn’t that be a great place to live?
You live in such a lovely place and your pictures are beautiful! Such a nice surprise to find chocolate in the mail. Chocolate is my true love, too. 😉
Gayle,
Chocolate in the mail makes a good day great!
Glad that Steve was able to see what he needed to see without sticking his whole head in the water. Beautiful pictures again. You are such a great photographer. How thoughtful of one of your readers to think of you when on vacation.
Sharyn,
Even though he didn’t stick his head in the water this time around, I wouldn’t be surprised if he did it at some later time–if his curiosity warranted it! 🙂
you live in an absolutely beautiful part of the country. Of course I do too, up in northern MN 🙂 How nice of one of your readers to send you the chocolate and tea. So glad Sarah is doing so well and the pain is gone.
Wendy,
I LOVE northern Minnesota. I’ve probably already mentioned my grandparents lived in Onamia, MN, and it was such a treat to get to go up there to visit that beautiful spot.
Oops that was supposed to say yonder not wonder! 🙂
Lovely post..it has four of my great loves in it: the ocean; natural beauty (and photographing it); chocolate; and tea! ( i grow chocolate mint tea in my front yard).
What a wonderful gift from Kristina.
Manteo looks incredibly beautiful. Traveling very far is not very easy for me, but I am going to add Manteo to my bucket list, because one can always dream and hope. And even if I never make it to Manteo in person, I feel so privileged to have been introduced to such a beautiful corner of the world through your blog! Thank you for sharing Manteo with all of us!!
I love small towns, and I especially love learning the stories they carry. Perhaps one day you if you are looking for a topic you can blog about the town’s history or local lore? Im guessing there is a lot of interesting history in Manteo??
Years ago I traveled to Nova Scotia (which is on Canada’s east coast) and in my mind’s eye I envision it similar to Manteo. What i loved most there (other than the Atlantic ocean) was the immense and rich history, from whaling captains of wonder’s old mansions to tiny finishing villages to historical museums to so much more.
Is this sort of what Manteo is like?
Have a great day and thanks again for such a wonderful blog.
Jenna,
Nova Scotia sounds like a place that my camera and me would LOVE! And yes, Manteo does have a fascinating history; what a good idea to write about it!
Thanks for your always-encouraging words; I’m glad to know I covered four favorite subjects for you!
Glad Sarah is pain free now. Chocolate looks delightful.
Ann,
Oh my. I can’t even describe how good that chocolate was!
what is piping? for sure, not bagpipers….. pipes?
what a lovely British gift!
Mrs. Pam,
What I meant by that word was that there was a little fishing shack type structure on the dock and there was a rain barrel with some pipes connected. He was looking under the dock to see where the pipes ran. Good question!
What a thoughtful and sweet surprise!! Those chocolates look fantastic!! Love the evening walk pictures too. 🙂
(And I am very glad to read that Sarah is almost pain-free.)
LeeAnne,
Chocolate. Evening walk. Pain-free. three wonderful things!
