Tomorrows Into Memories

March 20, 2012

My computer is presently in the shop so I don’t have my usual resources on hand with which to do a blog post.   Since Sarah has graciously consented to let me use her computer while mine’s being repaired, I decided to poke around in her picture files and see if there were any gems I could uncover with which to inspire a post.

And she didn’t fail me.  She had lots and lots of  Miscellaneous Smithellany for me to choose from.  Since they’re from her computer, most of them are of her but there are a few thrown in there with the whole family.

Although I love every single picture, the last picture in the line up I don’t love quite as much.  You’ll know why when you see it.

Which brings us to the last picture, a “pretend photo” of her as High School graduate.  (One of her classes did a Graduation Mock Up earlier in the year.)

All you moms out there know why I’m not thrilled to see my 10th grader posing as a High School graduate. That time is going to come fast enough already without it being played out before my very eyes.

In three months, Sarah will be a junior.

In one year and three months, she will be a senior.

And then about nine seconds after that, she will graduate.

Six seconds later, she will got college.

Three seconds after that, she will get married.

Two seconds later she’ll be bringing home her own babies.

Have I mentioned that time passes a little fast?

Sigh.  And that’s why I love pictures and picture posts.   It helps my mama heart to go back and look at younger days–younger days for my kids and younger days for me.

It’s so important to live today.  It’s so important to love today.

Because before we know it, younger days turn into older days and tomorrows turn into memories.

Sarah certainly has become a beautiful young woman. Can hardly believe she will be a junior. I think of my daughter (my favorite one – well, she’s the only daughter I have) it seems just the other day we had sent her off to college and now she’s a mother of 4. Seems the older I get the faster time goes – but enjoy every moment – until He comes!

      Sharyn,

I’m glad to know someone else out there has a “favorite daughter.” 🙂 Makes it pretty simple when we only have one! I know you enjoy your favorite daughter’s children!

One son. One graudation. Now he’s a father and on his own. This is what God gave me a child for…to raise in Him and then set him free to exercise those wing muscles so they can get really strong… to make mistakes and learn, take responsibility and consequences alike. The surprise is the “Mama’s Heart” never ends and I’ve added the “Nonna Heart”, that is seasoned with years of the “Mama’s Heart” experience and with a different kind responsiblity because I know better what’s really important. Graduation…bittersweet…tearful…joyous….and a “I’m SO proud and grateful” moment. A new journey for all and new beginnings can be wonderful! The little chick will stretch her wings, develop her “muscles” and soar!!! You have done well…you will do well…so will Sarah!

I totally know what you mean. My middle child/oldest daughter graduates in May, even tho I swear she was a toddler just last week! But you must admit, Sarah makes a beautiful senior!!

      Sue Ellen,

No, you’re not mistaken. Your daughter WAS a toddler last week! 🙂 Time really does go that fast. I’m just not ready to see Sarah in a real graduation gown.

Time flies, even you are only 21…! Just ask any university/college student near the end of semester…as I am…

“Younger days turn into older days and tomorrows turn into memories” That is beautiful and so so true!

    Love it.

      Carrie,

Thanks. The line just sort of hit me as I was writing and I thought how true it is. Thanks for your encouragement.

It IS so true how fast time moves on! Can hardly believe mine are *adult children* and I am a Nonny! Beautiful pictures of your Sarah!

Oh Becky, I can totally understand your mama heart, I have one of those too. I have a digital frame that my children brought me for Christmas (after I wore out the other one my son bought for me) and it is full of pictures of my children as little children. Sometimes, I sit in the living room with the fireplace going and just watch the pictures roll through and wonder where in the world has the time gone. When I look into their grown up faces, I can still see the baby faces so clearly. I have always called my son who is 33 (who is the baby of the family) my blue eyed baby boy (and wonder of all wonders, he doesn’t mind) and the my daughter who is 39 will always be baby girl and that is what she answers to. Of course I have tons of pictures of the grandchildren on there too, but the ones who cause tears to come to my eyes are the ones of the sweet children of my heart. I have recently started scanning all their baby pictures (and pictures of my mom and dad, my mom is in a nursing home with dementia and my dad passed away 15 years ago, it is amazing to see them as a young married couple holding me and my brother as babies), and I have an 8 gig flash drive to fill up. Thanks so much for sharing your pictures of Sarah and Nathan, it is good to know others have the same “mama heart” as I do.
Thanks for helping to start on my day on a great note.
    God Bless
    Gail

    Nancy,

Two adult children and one “almost” adult! I know you can hardly believe it that they’ve all gotten to that age already. Enjoy the pictures and the memories and all the new memories to be made!

I so totally know what you mean about time passing, my daughter is 25, married and working, my 2nd child is now 20 and going to college and my third “baby” is going to be 18 in August. I just don’t know where the time has flown, it certainly goes by way to fast. I do love the way that Sarah set up the last picture, it really looks great, but I also can’t believe she is in grade 10 already. My “mama heart” also loves to go back and look at the younger days, that seem to be just yesterday but am reminded that it is more yesterday’s than I thought.
