Last night, Sarah and I sat down on the couch and accomplished the long awaited Big Deed: we ordered her computer!
I had forgotten just how complicated it is to order a computer. My brain was downright mushy by the time I had read these kinds of words over and over.
XPS 15 9550, 16GB DDR4-2133MHz, up to 32GB (additional memory sold separately), 512GB PCIe Solid State Drive, NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 960M with 2GB GDDR5, 15.6″ FHD (1920 x 1080) InfinityEdge,6th Generation Intel Core i7-6700HQ Quad Core (6M Cache, up to 3.5 GHz)
For those of you who know about computers, you can read through the above list and know she is going to have an amazing machine, ideally suited to her field of study. Thanks to our computer guru friend, Wyatt Earp, for advising us on what to get.
And also, thanks once more to all of the wonderful Smithellaneous readers who were part of Sarah’s Computer Brigade; all the funds were raised in less than a week! Every time Sarah lifts the lid of that computer, she will be reminded of how many people love her and support her efforts. (The computer will arrive in about a week.)
I took a few pictures of her last week that I forgot to post.
Here she is having a follow up hearing test in preparation for getting her hearing aids next Wednesday.
We went from the hearing test over to UNC Chapel Hill Medical Center for a final meeting with a doctor who had to sign off on her getting the hearing aids. While we were waiting for him to come to the exam room, we two inveterate readers started looking at all the charts on the wall.
It struck me funny that there were all these complicated words like stapes, incus, malleus, auditory ossicles right next to words like round window. What I think is that a really smart person named the hard words and then someone like me came along and said, “That looks like a round window. So, um, let’s call it a round window.”
You can tell we were really bored to be studying an ear, nose and throat chart!
Something else that tickled my funny bone on that trip was what I saw in a small, family owned convenience store. I went into the ladies’ restroom and in the stall, I found this impressive display of Code Red, DEFCON 3, High Alert, Toilet Paper Security.
Might I just say that all my premeditated plans to do pull off a Toilet Paper Heist at that particular location were immediately foiled? Bummer.
As we continued our way home (totally toilet paper-less, might I add), I gave thanks for about the four millionth time that we get to live in the area we do.
We went from this . . .
to this . . .
to this . . .
to this . . .

to this . . .
to this.
In all the craziness and turmoil of this world, it is such a blessing to have a place of peace–both to leave from and return to.
Wishing you peace throughout your day today.
The adage, “There’s no place like home” is so true. It’s good to go but soo good to get back home again. I am happy to read that Sarah has her computer ordered and that her hearing aids will be soon for her too! Have a wonderful weekend. Wendy
Wendy,
You’re right about it being good to go but even better to come home again. Such a blessing to have a place to belong . . .
Next week will be a big one for Sarah because the computer should arrive, on TOP of getting her hearing aids! Hooray!
So glad the computer is taken care of and Sarah will be a great success. The pictures which begin stressful end so peaceful on the drive. Pray the hearing aids help and she can adjust to them. Have a great weekend. Love and hugs. ❤️?????
Ann,
Eventful times around here and even more eventual in 8 weeks when she leaves! Blessings to you and Jim today.
Well, I bet there is no other blog site that gives us such a wonderful illustration of our ear[s] and the virtues of making sure people keep their hands from stealing t.p. Priceless. :-).
Sharyn,
Yep, you just never know what you’re going to see when you pop in here, do you? 🙂
Foiled again, huh? Your toilet paper observations were so funny. Glad Sarah is getting her handy-dandy, super-duper, powered to the max computer–Mega Techie Girl Power! 🙂
I love home too–always nice to come back to from the craziness of the world.
Love, Deb
Deb
Yep, that girl is definitely going to be high-powered. Right now her computer freezes rather consistently when she is rendering videos for her little side job; she is going to feel like Superwoman when she flies through her work on the new computer!
That’s how I feel about where I live too. We don’t have the water to look at but we do get the most gorgeous sunrises and sunsets and we have fields of corn, soybeans and wheat just about everywhere and serenity beyond comparison. Our state slogan is ‘Nebraska, The Good Life’ and it’s so true!!
Happy Friday!
LeeAnne,
There are few things more lovely than driving through fields of crops back lit by a setting sun.You are blessed to live in such a peaceful place.
