Today.

August 15, 2012

Heard from the vet and she can come today at 1 pm or tomorrow at 4:30.

We opted for today.

Sarah and I are about to leave with him so that he can “take sister to school” one last time.  (Which has been the highlight of his day for many years.)

Of course, he’s not going to understand why she doesn’t actually get out of the car when we get there and is going to worry that I need a little more training before he can let me attempt these kinds of important jobs by myself.  (smile)

He just had his last meal of grilled chicken and diced watermelon and is getting all the treats he wants.

Spoiled little fella.

And your messages are touching my heart and bringing many tears to my eyes–so good to know how much he is loved.

I am so sad. When I read your post earlier today, the tears were flowing. Thinking of you all. I gave our little Maltese extra hugs today. They are so precious…

  2. Jojy Smith says:

When I was young, I asked my mom if Dogs and Cats go to heaven like people. My mom, keeping with the teaching she had learned told me “No honey. Animals don’t have souls.” I think, that time, my mom was wrong. No one I know had as much soul as Snowy. I think he will find my mom up there, and she will know that animals do go to heaven. And she will smile at newly arrived Snowy.

At 1:00 today, I gave my Blackie girl a special “cookie” in honor of Snowy. Blackie is on a diet and doesn’t get many “extras”, so she was sending up many, many tail wags and kisses to pave the way for your precious boy. You’ve been in my heart and prayers all day…

    The Rainbow Bridge
    inspired by Norse legend

By the edge of a woods, at the foot of
    a hill,

Is a lush, green meadow where time
    stands still.

Where the friends of man and woman do
    run,

When their time on earth is over
    and done.

For here, between this world and the
    next,

Is a place where each beloved creature
    finds rest.

On this golden land, they wait and they
    play,

Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross
    over one day.

No more do they suffer, in pain or in
    sadness,

For here they are whole, their lives
    filled with gladness.

Their limbs are restored, their health
    renewed,

    Their bodies have healed, with
    strength imbued.

They romp through the grass, without
    even a care,

Until one day they start, and sniff at
    the air.

All ears prick forward, eyes dart front
    and back,

Then all of a sudden, one breaks
    from the pack.

    For just at that instant, their eyes have met;

Together again, both person and pet.

So they run to each other, these friends from long past,

The time of their parting is over at last.

The sadness they felt while they were
    apart,

Has turned into joy once more in each
    heart.

They embrace with a love that will last
    forever,

    And then, side-by-side, they cross
    over… together.
    Becky,
Our prayers are with all of you. Today and always. Godspeed, Snowy …

You guys will definitely be in my thoughts and prayers in the coming days… I still look for my sweet little kitty Niblet to come running when we come in the house, and we had to have her put to sleep in December (They thought it was cancer for her too). She was almost 14… You have so many great memories and pictures of Snowy… he will never be forgotten! And, maybe Snowy has a cousin somewhere that can find a home with you guys in the future! Hugs to all of you!!!

Keeping you all in thoughts and prayers today!! I’m not sure of the time there? But if you have it, have him make a paw painting! Painting his paws and have him walk across a canvas. My Mom did that with her lab, it is a great piece of art!! ((HUGS))

  33. Debbie Taylor says:

    Becky and family,
Haven’t been saying much lately but have been keeping up with you and sweet Snowy. I feel your pain and heart brokenness as I went through the same thing with my 18 year old cat last year. I still miss her terribly and even last night when I opened the back door I thought for a second that I heard her running to greet me before I remembered that she wasn’t there. I promise you will feel Snowy close by for a long time to come. Prayers are with you all and especially with Snowy.

    Much love,
    Debbie Taylor

  34. Nadine says:

Becky, Steve, Sarah and far-away Nathan and Meagan, I will think of you today and will keep you in my prayers, as you say good-bye to this little furry family member. I know how heartbroken you all are now from experience. There is nothing to make it all better. And yet, I wish you strength, peace and a couple of beautiful last minutes with Snowy. And I wish Snowy a painfree and easy transition.

Virtual hugs and embraces to all of you.

    warmest wishes, Nadine from Germany

  35. Ellen says:

It is wonderful that your vet is willing to come to your house so he can slip away in a peaceful place surrounded by love and familiarity.

Snowy, if there’s a better place after this one, you’re going there. Run free little guy!

  36. Mary H says:

It is right, it is good, it will hurt – but not Snowy. He will just feel relief and love and happiness. He will have all sorts of friends at the Rainbow Bridge – I know many of them.
