When Sarah told Taylor and Hope that she wanted to celebrate her 17th birthday with a Tea Party, she mentioned the word “vintage” when the conversation turned to what everyone was going to wear.
I’m not exactly sure what Sarah had in mind when she said that particular word, but it was great fun to see how it was interpreted by her lovely, creative friends.
Hope’s look was from the 30’s and 40’s era, sort of what a tea party-attendee might look like if she lived in the Walton family. She pulled off the look perfectly and was lovely indeed.
Taylor chose the 70’s and 80’s as her vintage inspiration and made quite the dramatic entrance.
Sarah was shooting for the 1920’s and turned out quite glamorous and elegant. (She found the dress at a thrift store last week for $5)
And as for me? I opted for the half century old woman look. I pulled it off pretty well, don’t I?
We threatened Steve that he would have to wear one of our party hats if he didn’t find a hat of his own to sport, so he rummaged around and found one that he’s had forever. He made a very handsome and gallant escort as we left for our party which was held at the home of a lady who attends our church. I had asked her if we could borrow her home since it was so much more tea party-ish than mine. (You’ll see what I mean when you see a few photos of the day.)
We arrived at her home in the pouring rain but to managed get ourselves into the door without any undue or unsightly melting.
Before the actual tea party began, the girls sat for a while in the sun room and affected English accents as they gazed out the windows at the English-like weather.
They got an especially warm welcome from Bella, the resident dog of the house.
Grapes and cheese . .
. . . . and sparkling grape juice were served as a first course. (If a tea party can, indeed, have a first course.)
After the girls enjoyed their sun porch visit, they repaired to the next room for the actual tea party.
Which involved actual tea.
And actual fabulous sweet stuff.
And also actual decapitated starfish cucumber sandwiches.
(To be continued.)
Sarah is absolutely gorgeous in the pictures!
What beautiful girls, terrific looking sweets, lovely sunroom and a great picture of Steve in the mirror! The girls will have grand memories to cherish.
What fun! My 17 yr old had a tea party when she turned 7. She just said the other day she would like one again for her 18 th Birthday next year. And she loves vintage wear. You have inspired!
And tell Sarah Happy Birthday! Jill
P.S. Sarah looks like British Royalty, especially in the one picture on the sun porch where she is looking down. Just beautiful – oh, and you looked beautiful too and Steve’s hat was perfect.
All beauties! Love Sarah’s pearls! Decapitated what?! Starfish & cukes have heads? Uh oh…I may have to give them up!
…the cukes that is. 🙂
Oh, my, those girls are beautiful – Sarah’s pearls were perfect. What a scrumtious plate of goodies – but about the decapitated sandwiches?????
Beautiful pictures!! I really hope the ladies have a lovely tea party 🙂
