Sarah usually gets ready for school a little early and then sits on the couch and reads a few minutes before we have to leave. And of course, her faithful, sidekick is always right beside her, should she need any assistance with any of the big words in the book.
Well, today was no different except for one important thing.
Today is Sarah’s last day to be a tenth-grader and therefore, it is Snowy’s last day of being the official “Get the Tenth Grade Sister To School” dog. He is a pro and a veteran at his job, having spent most of Sarah’s school years delivering her safely to school day after day. And while I’m not going to write endlessly about how good he is at what he does, I will just say that the president’s Secret Service detail could probably pick up a few pointers from him. He is one committed doggie.
His usual modus operandi is to sit patiently beside Sarah and her book, staring at the stairs with an intensity bordering on maniacal, just waiting for me to appear. As soon as I come around the corner of the stairwell, he knows that The Moment is at hand. He keeps his doggie gaze fastened intently upon my face, waiting for me to give the Secret Doggie Signal signifying that the time has come to leave. At that point, he flies off the couch and sprints to the front door, leaping and whirling and giving delighted doggie yips of exuberant exaltation.
You’ve never seen a happier, more fulfilled creature in your entire life.
Unfortunately for this poor fella, his happy school days are over for awhile. Whatever will he do with his time, now that he’s entering the semi-retirement of the summer season?
Do you see him gazing up at the heavens, hoping for some inspiration to be sent from above?
Well! I am happy to report that his answer arrived rather quickly. It appears as though he has already landed a summer job, a job that allows him the convenience of working from home with no commuting involved.
He’s been hired on as a Helper!
handy dandy Helper!
Life is very, very good.
Snowy, if Dad is using contact paper, be careful with for those cute paws
woof and love
Mrs. Pam, yep, he was using contact paper! Snowy remained unscathed.
Lol, what an enormous help Snowy is. I hope Steve appreciated this help!
Bec, yep, Snowy is every bit as helpful as a toddler. 🙂
How sweet those pictures of Snowy with his dad helping out! Love it. Wendy
Wendy, I dont’ know what we would do without his invaluable assistance–in cooking and in home repair!
Oh, how funny! Can I hire Snowy? I need some help around the house too:)!
Cindy, well, you’ll have to get in line. Snowy is pretty well booked up!
Love that Snowy! What a guy.
Mary H, yeah, we love him around here pretty much, too!
Laughing at the last two pics where Snowy is imitating the posture of his boss! Who said imitation is the best form of flattery?
Guerrina, I haven’t even noticed that but you’re right! How funny is that?
I honestly can’t believe that Sarah will be a junior next year. Goodness, not too long before the college search begins. How fast they do grow up! Congratulations Sarah on another good year!
Karen, with your own two kids growing up way too fast, I know that you have an extra appreciation for the impossible fact that Sarah will be a junior!
