The Jewel Inside

March 18, 2019

We got a call from Nathan on Friday saying that they were on the way to take Grayson to the E.R.

Here is a Facebook summary of the visit from Meagan:

So our weekend hasn’t really gone as planned. Friday night I ended up in the ER with Grayson for breathing issues due to a virus. Wanna talk about having your nerves torn up…a baby with breathing issues will do that! Because we have lots of kids, Nathan wasn’t able to come with me like he usually would.  If you know anything about me you know I dont do well with doctors or hospitals. But, my momma bear kicked in and off I went to get him some help. I prayed all the way to the hospital…Lord touch my baby, please help me to stay calm and please dont let me pass out. It was a real prayer.

Once we checked in I watched as his oxygen bounced between 75-90 for 4 hrs. 90 is great, 75 not so much. I kept praying. Doctors and nurses came and went, I prayed while Grayson struggled to get a good breath. After four hours had passed, they had run some tests, and taken some x-rays, they came in to do a deep suction on him. This was supposed to clear his nasal passages and help him breath better. That was a bad few minutes but as soon as they were done his oxygen jumped to 100% and my baby fell right to sleep in my arms.

My momma heart breathed a sigh of relief. Grayson was breathing better, I hadn’t passed out, and Nathan was now on his way. We made it!

And here’s a picture of grandbaby number 4, who is currently in the developmental stages. Lovely mama!

After our recent discussion . . .

about whether or not we feel like we are the age we are, I rediscovered this video.

It makes me cry every single time I watch it, especially at the end when the woman starts to cry.  I love her dignity, her poise, her sweetness, her wisdom.  My wish is for an attitude like hers when I arrive at old age with a face of wrinkles, stiff knees, and arthritic fingers.

Regardless of what stage of life we are in, may be always remember the jewel inside.

Tried to reply above, but saw no place to write, soooo. You were saying that your arthritic finger was getting worse. This probably would not help and maybe it is something you should not drink because of other medical things, but I asked our former pastor if he was still drinking apple cider vinegar. He said he was (1 cup vinegar to 2 qts. grape juice). He said his arthritis was much better and hardly any pain. I have started to drink it (mine is 3 tsp. of unfiltered apple cider vinegar, splash (1/4 c.?) of juice and some water) for about 2 weeks. I have mentioned previously that I have osteoarthritis in my wrists, left one being the worst. Not painful all the time, but when it would pain it would make me gasp because it was like someone put my wrist in a vice or pinched me. Since drinking this concoction I have not any of those “gotcha” pains, maybe an ache here and there. Since you have rheumatoid arthritis, have no idea if something like this would help at all. The taste is horrible, but I only drink it once a day, before breakfast. So glad Grayson is breathing much better – so hard on momma, but hard on grandma too!

      Sharyn,

I have heard different reports about cider vinegar being good for many things, including arthritis. I do keep it on hand and put it in herbal tea occasionally but don’t drink it on a regular basis. Had never thought of diluting it with grape or orange juice. That would definitely help that strong taste! Thanks for the reminder on trying it.

So glad Grayson is better. Meagan looks so cute. How is your “arthritic” finger? Prayers for that finger.

    • Becky says:

      Ann,

My finger is gradually getting worse. I continue to need and appreciate all the prayers I can get. Thanks for asking!

So glad Grayson is okay…what a scary time for her but I totally understand the momma bear part as I am sure you do to.

I’m so glad to read that Grayson is OK. What a scare for a Mama Bear! And a Daddy Bear, too. Such great parents your kids are! You are blessed!

I’m certainly glad he’s ok. Poor little fella! I think we can all come together and agree that bodies should not be allowed to betray us (or our kids)! ?

    • Becky says:

      Ellen,

If only that were the case where we were NEVER betrayed by our bodies. A lovely thought, indeed.

But in the meantime, we will deal with the small and large body betrayals as best as we can and be thankful for life!

So glad Grayson is doing better. And “knowing” Meghan through your blog, I’m not the least bit surprised that her Mama-Bear kicked in and she did what had to be done. Good job, Meghan!! And Becky, I hope you have a great week.

So happy that Grayson is much better. I’m sure we all can recall the times our children were running fevers and had to go to the doctor. Way to go Megan. So thankful you can rely on the Lord when you feel a little alone. May he continue to get better.

    • Becky says:

      Sharyn,

Any mother who read her story can definitely relate. Nothing quite as scary as having a sick child in the E.R.

Glad that Grayson is feeling better. It’s so hard when babies are sick because they can’t tell you what’s wrong with them. Prayers that he continues to do well.

Thanking the Lord He brought Megan and baby through that trial–hard stuff to deal. Ruth

Oh, I am so glad to hear he is okay, we had to take our son to the ER when he was four due to a really bad asthma attack, those few miles to the hospital seemed to take forever…..

    • Becky says:

      Dale,

Asthma can be SUCH a scary disease. When breathing is affected, a mom’s worry thermometer just goes up and up!

Oh my goodness….I’m so glad that Grayson got some relief but how frightening! Prayers that he is all better very soon.
