I’m working on a longer post for tomorrow that will tell you all about our experiences yesterday. But I just wanted to let you that Sarah is all settled in and doing well. We had a few tears throughout the day, but that was to be expected.
She called last night at bedtime and sounded happy which truly gladdened this mama’s heart.
Thanks for the prayers said, the good wishes sent, and all the comments that were left. One sweet Smithellaneous friend even had a care package waiting for Sarah when she arrived.
We felt very much surrounded by Smithellaneous love!
Hi Becky,
I’ve been quiet lately, but have been with you through many ups and downs since I first became acquainted with you through your original caringbridge site when Sarah was first diagnosed. It has been an amazing sharing in the Smith family’s trials, tribulations and triumphs. You are such an inspiration! Seeing Sarah head off to college brings such joy. She is such a special person, I know that she will succeed in whaever she chooses to do, just as I am sure God has special plans for her. You and Steve have done such a remarkable job in raising two amazing children. Hard as it can be to let go, you have given them two great gifts – roots and wings, with the knowledge that they can always return to the nest and will be warmly welcomed back for however that stay may be. Well done, Smith family!
Hugs to all of you.
Linda in Pittsburgh
Linda,
It is hard to believe that we have Smithellaneous friends who have been with us that many years. I am humbled, honored, and inspired by that!
You have always been such an encouraging presence on this site, speaking words of affirmation and positivity. Thank you for doing that through the years, and especially now, in this very new, slightly unnerving season of life. Blessings to you!
hooray for “Happy”!!!
reminds me of “Happiness is”,
one of my favorite songs from “You’re a Good man, Charlie Brown”
FOR HAPPINESS IS ANYONE AND ANYTHING AT ALL
THAT’S LOVED BY YOU.
Mrs. Pam,
Love that! Charlie Brown IS a good (and smart) man.
Glad to hear things went well and that Sarah is all settled in
Thank you, Michel! 🙂
So happy things went well. I know Sarah will enjoy her new adventure.
Ann,
So far, so good! 🙂
Such good news! Steve, denial is a wonderful way to cope!
Lesley,
Let’s hear it for denial!
What’s the Dr. Seuss book, Oh, the Places you will go! Oh, the Places Sarah will go. She looks so happy and ready for the next chapter in her life. It stinks being the parent having to let them go, I know first hand. Thanks for the update
Wendy,
Yes, the kids get to go places and the parents get to stay home and miss them! 🙂
thanks for keeping us up to date Becky, she looks really happy, and I know she will be great at whatever she attempts. Thinking of you and Steve from another “empty nester”. It is different and it takes a while to adjust. Still miss my kiddos!!!!
Gail,
Yes, after having kids in the house for 27 years straight, we are kidding used to the new season of kidless-ness.
Thanks for the update!
Speaking of updates, how is she doing with her hearing aids?
Jan,
She’s been wearing them pretty consistently. She said for the first few weeks they made her ears itch. Now that the itching is almost gone, she said many sounds are still “strange” to her. Quite the adjustment process.
Good day. I’m still in denial.
Steve,
Whatever works!
Yesterday you teared me up now I got goose bumps. . Glad Sarah is well !
Katrina,
I’m glad Sarah is doing well, too. Such a relief!
Yay! So happy for happy phone calls! 🙂
Stefanie,
Yes, that one phone call made my ENTIRE day.
Yay! She looks so happy and these are such exciting times! Thanks for the update. 🙂
LeeAnne,
You’re more than welcome. We are so blessed to have so many people who care about how her first day went.
