Smarter Than a Fourth Grader?

October 10, 2014

In a few minutes, I’ll be leaving for Oasis Christian Academy where a certain Mrs. Smith is a fourth grade teacher. The aforementioned younger Mrs. Smith has invited the aforementioned older Mrs. Smith to come and speak (as well as show some pictures) to her class since they are currently studying Roanoke Island and The Lost Colony.

Sadly, my historical knowledge of those two subjects is pretty limited but since I do actually live on Roanoke Island and have lots of pictures of the area, I figure I can at least let the students know what it looks like in modern times since they have probably only seen pictures of it from back in the day

When I’m done with my little fifteen minutes of teaching, I’m sure the students will be thoroughly convinced that I am NOT smarter than a fourth grader. But we’ll have fun anyway!  Plus I’ll get to see Meagan in her work environment which will be a treat.

Last night, Nathan and I took Noah to the park and I got a few pictures with my iPhone. They were taken in very low light so excuse the  graininess.

Dad had to get the little fella’s shoes on before letting him run free.  Noah was very patient with the process.

Hey, Grandma.  What’s happenin’?

Noah is walking like a champ.  His gait can be best described as a dignified, macho waddle which is just too precious for words.

He strode hither and yon, making great long nonsensical speeches punctuated with many wavings of the arms and many manly guttural sounds

At one point he approached an older boy and give him a big grin and an indecipherable invitation to play.  The boy gave him a little pat on the head and hung out with him for a moment, just long enough to make Noah feel like one of the guys.

Before I close (and head out to the classroom) I would like to wish my very first grandson a very first happy birthday. Hooray for sweet little boys!
