Serenity

June 26, 2022

Today at 3 p.m. we will gather in a small, rural church in western Wisconsin and say goodbye to a woman we all loved.

Following the service and meal, the family will drive thirty minutes to the cemetery where my dad and nephew are buried for the inurnment of mom’s ashes.

This cemetery is nestled in the rural hills and adjoins a small white church and serenity abounds there.

As I join my family for this goodbye, I will be thinking of the serenity of my mom’s life and the glow of her eyes in the hours before her passing.  It looks as though she is already seeing heaven in this photo and it fills up my heart to know what her eyes are glimpsing now.

Thank you for the many comments, prayers, and words of comfort.  It has meant so much to our family to have you share not only in the sorrow but also in the joy of our sweet mom’s transition from this good, green earth to the glories of heaven.

Reading this after-the-fact, but it’s good to already know that the day of the funeral/memorial was beautiful and all went well. I hope you find healing and peace in the time you have with your family!

Thank you for sharing your memories of Joanne. There is so much about her to love and respect. When you were a little girl she gave you paper and pencil to write on when she was writing. She placed your small hands on her hands when she played the piano. She prepared simple and delicious meals for her family, a tradition that you and Sarah now follow. She loved reading her bible and listening to the song birds. The picture of Joanne with the clothesline in the background is my favorite. Precious memories are a true blessing.

Yes, she had such an enormous influence on my growing up years–and that influence will continue until the day I breathe my last.
