Sarah’s Sickness. Snowy’s Sympathy. Seafood.

June 10, 2012

We’re leaving for the Great Road Trip of 2012 right after church today and will be sleeping in downtown Washington, D.C. tonight!

In the meantime, we’ve enjoyed having Steve’s parents with us (from Charlotte) and his Aunt Yvonne who flew in from California to hang out with his parents while they house-sit and dog-sit for us.  Yvonne, although a world traveler, had never been to the Outer Banks so she was excited about the chance to do some exploring here.

Unfortunately,  on the very first outing, she fell and twisted her ankle, so they’ve decided to change some exciting walking tours into exciting driving tours instead.

As for another “unfortunately,” Sarah has gotten sick, just hours before we are to leave.  But happily, Snowy has donned his nursing hat and is on duty, checking to see if she needs any orange juice, soothing her forehead with a cool cloth, and telling her fascinating stories to help pass the time.

Or not.

Mostly he just sits and exudes an aura of sympathy.  Snowy is all about the exuding of sympathy. When his sister is sad, he is sad, too.

Last night for our final dinner together with Steve’s family before leaving town, we treated them to an Outer Banks Seafood Extravaganza.   Steve went to a local market and bought tuna steaks, scallops and shrimp, all of which were so fresh they had been flitting through the ocean just hours before.

He then wrapped the scallops in bacon, marinated them and grilled all three things to the epitome of perfection.  Good eatin’!

It’s time for me to get ready for worship team practice and church after which I will fling myself into even higher gear than I’ve already been in the last few days and finish packing to hit the road.

The next time you hear from me, it will be from somewhere along the way on the Great Road Trip of 2012.

See you soon!

I am sorry to hear you are sick Sarah!  Are you feeling any better this afternoon?  I am glad you all were able to enjoy time with Aunt Yvonne and G’Ma and G’Pa Smith!  I hope that Aunt Yvonne’s ankle starts to feel better soon.  Steve is one heck of a guy, don’t y’all think (I am truly NOT from the South)?  He even cooks, WOW!  I hate too say that the only thing that looked good to me was the potato (I don’t eat seafood of ANY kind).  I do, however, love “me” some potato (except mashed or potato salad).  Travel safely, please!  I know you will have many excellent adventures. One another note, please visit this site:  http://cfhusband.blogspot.com/ this family are neighbors of Becky Steve, Sarah and Snowy Studmuffin and are very involved in the “Church!’  They are Ministers of some type (I am Jewish and get them all confused: Pastor, Reverend, Father) and musicians.  This is an amazing family!  Please visit their site……..sorry to hijack your site, Becky!Take care! Jodi, thanks for your encouraging thoughts sent our way.

And yes, we’ve been following Nate and Trish’s story as well; in fact, our worship team had special prayer for them during our rehearsal yesterday morning.  Definitely worth stopping by the blog and following their story; they are some great people.   Thanks for bringing them to everyone’s attention!

Safe travels and enjoy your trip. Don’t miss the Lincoln Memorial-that is my favorite spot in DC.
