Video Friday!

April 15, 2016

I promise that this is my last post about our Easter Drama but I just couldn’t put it to rest without sharing the video of our Resurrection Dance. It was such a gorgeous and moving performance; everytime I watch it, I get goose bumps all over again!

I am in awe of people like Elizabeth who know how to dance so gracefully and emotively; I guess it helps that she has been trained in dance since she was a young child. Elizabeth is dedicated to using her gift in a way that brings glory to God and she is also dedicated to ensuring that her four beautiful young daughters receive training in dance, and music, and performance.  I love it when generations make beautiful art together. (Elizabeth and Mary Ann, our associate pastor/drama director, worked on the choreography on this dance together and they nailed it.)

Just a note about the recording: the first half of the dance was recorded by a guy with a really nice camera;; however, it was recorded during a rehearsal so there weren’t many people in the auditorium. Halfway through the dance, I switched over to footage I shot with my iPhone. Although the quality is not as good, I wanted you to be able to experience the emotion and enthusiasm of the audience during the dance.

I am also including a 2-minute video of the curtain call which will definitely make you smile.   (See notes below for video for highlights.)

Here are a few moments you might be particularly interested in:

At 11 seconds . . .

you will see two little girls dancing in the side aisle, waiting till it was their time to go to the platform. The younger girl, Vela Grace, was featured in this blog post.  To think of what difficult living conditions she could be in right now and instead, get to see her smiling and dancing in church–well, it is truly inspiring!  (After she was adopted, her name was changed from Maleigha to Vela Grace. She is called Maleigha in the original blog post.)

At 45 seconds  . . .

you’ll Sarah (in the green dress) jogging in from the back of the auditorium where she was in the tech booth running video screens.

At 1:07 . . .

you’ll see the guys from Dare Challenge.  (Dressed as soldiers.)  They had such a great time and even worked out a little dance to do while they were walking out.  To see their joy and their smiles and to realize the lives of addiction they came from–it is definitely the definition of a miracle.

At 1:26 . . .

you’ll see Steve’s bow.  He is bowing with his fellow Pharisee, Michael, who used to be a military policeman and is 6 foot 7. Steve always had to stretch waaaay up when they raised their hands to bow together.

I hope you enjoyed the video-based blog post today. Have a great weekend!

It looks like it was a wonderful performance!! The audience reaction says it all. Did you watch from the audience each time, or were you behind the scenes most of the time?

    • Becky says:

      Lesley,

Happily all my work for the drama was done in the weeks leading up to it so on performance nights, I sat in different places in the audience. It was fun to overhear people’s comments and watch their reactions. It was also gratifying to get to see all the background screens I had worked so hard organizing do their job in setting the mood for each part of the drama.

Amazing! So glad you used your phone to capture the audience.

Loved the curtain call. But you neglected to point out the kidlets wrestling on the floor in front of the stage. How sweet!

      Jan,

Yes, I noticed them when I was editing the video; they made me smile. In a few years, they’ll probably be right up on the stage performing!

Wow!! What a beautiful dance! She did an amazing job and the resurrection was SO well done. Goosebumps!! Judging from the audience reaction to the dance and to the curtain call, it was a spectacular performance. Bravo!! 🙂
