Quick Snowy Update

August 1, 2012

Hi all!

I’m headed to bed very shortly but some of you emailed and wanted an update on Snowy.  (I’m not offended or anything, but I really do think he’s more popular than I am!)  🙂

If I had to sum up the report of how he’s doing in one word I guess it would be “mixed.”   He’s having break through pain on the medications that he is currently allowed to have so I will call the vet again in the morning to get some insight from her. I hadn’t cried over him in a couple days but tonight, the tears hit again.

What gets me is that when he recovers from a pain episode, he is so happy and full of life that he almost seems like a puppy again. Which is what makes this whole journey so frustrating. Seventy percent of the time, he feels great and is so happy that I can’t imagine putting him to sleep.  And then the meds will wear off and he’ll be shaking and panting and staring and I’ll start to second guess myself all over again.

Sarah and I had a good hug and cry tonight with Snowy in my arms between us.  It’s such a tough, tough, tough thing to know what to do.

Praying for you and Sarah and Snowy.  Whatever your decision, Snowy will always love you and will know that you did the very best for him every day of his life – as he has for all of you.

    Becky,

I agree with Liz, as long as he is happy and pain free while on the meds…keep him on them and just let nature takes its course.  That way you really dont have to make the decision.  God did and there will be no guilt on your part.  The most important thing is that he is happy and pain free in the time he has left.

Praying for Snowy and all of you.  May God give you peace with whatever you decide.  I pray that Snowy will just “snap” out of the pain and be around for a lot of more days.

It would seem to me that if you can keep him pain free and happy and with you for a bit longer, than why not give him the meds that will do that.  Granted, there are obviously risks to doing that, but what is the alternative?  He is obviously one tough little guy!  Hang in there, Snowy!

Well just give him another kiss from me. There isn’t anything else I can think of to say except he will let you know when he’s ready.
