News, an Angel Dance, and Soldiers

November 10, 2014

Well, just to start your Monday off with some happy news, let me share that this little fella . . .

is going to be a Big Brother!

Yep. Nathan and Meagan are pregnant with Smith Baby Number Two who is due in the late summer of 2015. Hooray for us all!

In other Meganate News, the three of them are coming for a 10-day visit in December. Can’t wait for that!

And speaking of December, cold winter weather is always a good time for drinking tea. Sarah, however, got a jump on the season last week when she brewed up some tea before she left for school.  As it turned out though, she didn’t have time to drink said tea before she left so she put it on the counter with this note attached:

It made me smile!

Last week was an incredibly busy time for our family as we put the finishing touches on our church’s annual Salute to Veterans; this year we did a 40-minute original drama as part of the program.

Here is a scene that took place in an airport terminal. (That’s Steve kneeling on the right.)

One of the highlights of the drama was this dance by one of our talented church members, Elizabeth DeHart. It was absolutely gorgeous. (The person in the foreground is playing a soldier who was just killed in battle.)

The drama had to do with three soldiers (Steve played the soldier who was an atheist) who met on the flight going overseas. After a rocky start to their relationship, the three  became close friends over the following year at war.

The dramatic challenge was to show the passage of the year and the building of the friendships without taking up too much time in the play. And so I was given the job of taking photos and creating a video that would condense the year into 3 1/2 minutes. I had a whole lot of fun doing it–one of my favorite creative projects yet.

Here’s the video.

 Have a great Monday!

Did I miss something, where are you Becky? I need my Smithellaneous fix! I pray all is well!

    • Heidi says:

Nevermind…it just occurred to me after I submitted that comment, that since no one else was concerned in your comments here it surely must be me missing something. Sure enough, I cleared my cache on my browser, reloaded and now I have several new Smithellaneous posts to read. For weeks I’ve been checking and this one was showing up as the most recent post week after week. Whew…glad all is good 🙂

      • Becky says:

        Heidi,

Well, I have to say that it is VERY nice to be missed! I’m glad you found a simple fix to the absence of posts and are now on your way to catching up. Merry Christmas!

  2. Michele says:

How exciting!! A new little Grandbaby to love! Your church does amazing productions!

    • Becky says:

      Michele,

Thanks for the congrats about the new grand baby and the compliment about our production. Come to think of it, I guess BOTH things have to do with production–one of a baby, one of a drama. 🙂

  3. Karen Cathey says:

What exciting news! Congratulations to your entire family! I will look at your creative film later — looks kinda obvious I am not working when I have earphones on my head. 🙂

  4. Mrs. Pam says:

i actually had a dream two days ago that Noah had a baby sister, and I made her a wee jumper like I sew for the Nicaragua girls.

beautiful production… the angel gave me goose bumps. did “Soldier Steve” become a believer? I’m thinking most likely since it was a tribute in church.

    • Becky says:

      Mrs. Pam,

A grand daughter would be lovely; keep dreaming! 🙂

At the end of the drama, he made a comment that his life had been changed by knowing the Christian soldier who had been killed in battle.

  5. Courtney Hurd says:

WOW!! Congratulations to Nathan, Meagan, Noah and the entire family!

  6. Jan Reuther says:

Congratulations! How exciting for all of you.

    • Becky says:

      Jan,

I’m still not completely used to being grandma for the FIRST time but I am excited about getting to do the experience all over again.

  7. Mel says:

Congratulations!! Great news. The pictures of the angel are amazing. I almost feel like I am there watching her. The costume is beautiful.

    • Becky says:

      Mel,

I know–isn’t that costume amazing? Of course, it takes someone who knows how to dance to make the costume “work.” I would put it on and look like a confused elephant moving around the stage. 🙂

  8. Vernie says:

So, so happy to get the good news from Nathan and Meagan. Great job on the video. Proud of you! Hope we can be there for next year’s celebration!

    • Becky says:

      Vernie,

We would love to have you come for it! Glad you liked the video; it was probably fun for you and Ken to see Steve in military garb. 🙂

  9. Mary H says:

WOO HOO!!!! So happy for Noah and everyone else! How exciting! Still on my bucket list – to see one of the productions at your church. Still smiling about your news (and the free tea).

  10. dmantik says:

Happy about the happy news! 🙂 And great, great job on the video–wow!

  11. Yay! Congratulations.

  12. Wendy says:

Congratulations on another precious grandbaby! How fun

  13. Jodi says:

How exciting! I expected that news such as another Grand would be announced soon (I’m not sure why)! Noah will such a great big brother! How did they announce the news? Is Megan feeling okay? Late summer is perfect timing for a teacher! Being able to finish the current school year & not having to start the next (meaning not having too many big changes for the kiddos) is a good thing! A Christmas visit is awesome news too! Today’s post was a happy one for sure! Did Sarah start her new job yet? Hugs, Jodi

    • Becky says:

      Jodi,

They announced it while we were Skyping; they pointed their camera at a portable crib in the corner of the room and said, “Someone is going to be sleeping in there.” Sarah and I understood immediately but Steve kept on thinking they were talking about Noah. 🙂 We finally did get it explained to him! Sarah hasn’t started job yet; should be very soon.

  14. LeeAnne says:

What wonderful news! Congratulations on grandbaby #2!!

  15. Lesley says:

Wonderful, wonderful news all around! Great job on the video, I can see where Sarah gets her talent, did she help you with it? And another baby for the happy couple! Congratulations to everyone.

    • Becky says:

      Lesley,

I did about 99% of my own but she helped me with some other creative projects for that particular production. She is my Go To Gal when I need help with something.

  16. Kristi says:

    Congratulations on grandbaby #2!!!:)

  17. Jenna Hoff says:

Congratulations on grand baby#2!! Grandparents can play such an important role in a child’s life and Noah and the new baby are so blessed to have such loving grandparents in their lives. I have two nonogenarien grandmothers and I love them both so much. One of them has been in declining health and a few weeks ago I got the call it might be time to say goodbye. I raced to her bedside and cried so hard. But amazingly, she rallied and has really regained her strength. Yesterday she reached a huge milestone and turned 99. It was a day of great celebration!

    • Becky says:

      Jenna,

It’s not every day I see a sentence with nonogenarien in it! So glad your beloved grandma made it to her 99th birthday. What a treasure for ALL of you.

  18. Becky says:

    Cindy,

Thank you! We knew they were wanting to have a second one fairly soon but the announcement still always comes as a (happy) surprise. 🙂

  19. Cindy from Sonoma says:

Congrats on becoming a Grandma again, what exciting news!
