Playing, Powdering, and Running for our Lives

December 16, 2016

We are knee-deep in the joys of grandparenthood right now, but I wanted to share just a couple of photos with you before we head into the weekend.

Also, blogging gives me an excuse to sit down for a minute, so there’s that. 🙂

We left at Manteo at 7 a.m. (later than we wanted) and arrived at Nathan and Meagan’s at 11 p.m.  A bit of a long day for two grandparent-ly types.

In Jacksonville, FL, with 6 lanes of traffic going a bazillion m.p.h., we hit something in the road and blew a front tire. Not so fun and actually, a little scary.  (Another driver hit the same thing and also blew a tire.)

My knight in shining armor got all the luggage and Christmas gifts unloaded, retrieved the spare and put it on. I helped him by holding a flashlight and attempting to be brave.  Sarah wisely stayed in the vehicle while we did the tire wrangling.

We checked with the other woman to be sure she had AAA coming and we were on our way.

This morning after a good sleep, the world looked brighter. Grandpa Smith has been highly entertained by his grandson.

We built a fort (or “fork,” as Noah called it) which was filled with bears and lions which required Noah and I to grab each others’ hands and go screaming into the other room yelling at the top of our lungs, “Run for your LIVES!”

(Can you understand why sitting down to blog is a nice break?)

Grandpa got into the “fork” with his coffee but forgot to bring in all his feet.

Madison is her usual beautiful self.

When I got ready this morning, I had Noah help me powder my face.  He was very precise in his powdering skills and made me look better than I ever have.  Powder, applied with love by a grandson, is the best kept beauty secret on the market.

Lots of playtime, powdering, and “running for our lives” to come.

That blowout sounds scary! Glad you made it there safely. I didn’t realize the drive was that long. Sure looks like everyone is having a good time!

      Kari,

Yes, it was pretty scary, alright, especially happening on a busy freeway after dark. Thankful Steve is a good tire changer!

      Kari,

The drive is actually supposed to be 13 hours but it turned out to be a little longer for us. I was never so happy to arrive somewhere . . . long day!

So glad you were able to pull off to the side and get the tire taken care of, but also thankful it wasn’t in Minnesota where this evening it is to be about -21 below. So glad everyone, including the woman, were safe.

Sorry about the tire. At least you three arrived safely. So much fun with Noah! Have a great rest and relaxing time.

What an amazing pre holiday celebration you will all have! These moments with The Grands are priceless! I’m glad you arrived safely and awoke this morning bright eyes and rested! Though, even if you had looked tired, Noah took care of that for you! I’m certain I won’t be the only one anxiously awaiting pics and stories about your adventures in Florida!

what fun you all are having, that’s for sure.
I had a flat tire last week, although it wasn’t quite as cary as yours.
the dealership replaced it for free even though it wasn’t apparent what had caused the destruction.

So glad you made it safely. What a trip! You need a couple of days in your PJs to unwind, for sure. So wonderful to be with your grand babies. Take lots of pictures!! Collect lots of hugs.
