We spent a rare quiet night at home last night, with the three of us (plus Mrs. Doggie) piled on the couch, feet propped up and lights turned down to a restful dimness.
Since Sarah had been home from school due to sickness, a little snooze on the couch with Dad and Doggie was just what the doctor ordered. (In addition to the meds from the pharmacy.)
After a few minutes of snoozing with the family, I hopped off the couch and went into photo-taking mode. (As I am wont to do.) It was such a joy to take pictures of peace.
Some of you asked how Sarah’s doctor appointment went yesterday.
The doctor listened to her lungs and said that he heard congestion in one of them. He wanted to do a chest x-ray but since our outpatient tests aren’t covered by insurance, he said instead he would just put her on a strong antibiotic. (Which is what he would have done anyway, regardless of what the x-ray showed.)
He said in the condition that Sarah is in (bad cough, worn down, congestion in lung) she could very easily develop pneumonia. She is to take the two meds he gave her for seven days; if she starts running a fever, or the cough gets worse, we’re to take her right back to the doctor. And if the cough doesn’t go away over the course of the next 5-7 days, she’ll have to get started on more aggressive treatment.
She got up this morning at the regular time to go to school and was as pale as I’ve seen her since her cancer treatment There was not a tinge of color in her cheeks, no color in her lips–she looked truly awful. I cooked her some breakfast to get her blood sugar up and that helped a little but she was still without much color, except for the dark circles under her eyes. She’s also dizzy, weak and wobbly feeling. She really wanted to get back to school today but after eating, showering and dressing she told me she just didn’t feel like she could handle it. (Sarah is a child who very rarely misses school, so I know she’s really feeling bad if she doesn’t want to go.)
So that’s the scoop for now. We’ll keep a close eye on her and will take her back in if she shows any signs of getting worse. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers for our sweet girl.
Hope this finds Sarah feeling better! If my memory (what memory) or reading comprehension serves me right, Tuesday was either day 4 or 5 that Sarah has been home? I can see why she pushed so hard to go back yesterday! I HOPE today (Wednesday) finds her back to school and on the mend! How are you feeling, Becky?
Jodi, I’m feeling totally recovered and Steve is back to (almost) full strength. If we can get Sarah feeling better, we’ll be happy campers!
Thanks to EVERYONE for your good wishes for Sarah. You all are so very sweet!
Sarah, get well soon! Hope you’ll get rid of this stupid flu/cold fast! Thinking of you all.
best wishes Nadine from Germany
Ooooh, I hope Sarah perks up. It’ awful when they are sick. She was right to stay home today.
I pray that Sweet Sarah gets to feeling better soon. I know that you hate to see her sick, I am always so happy when one of my kids has a “normal” illness. The pediatric cancer life sure gives us a different perspective on sickness, doesn’t it?
Lisa, I thought that very thing when I had her at the doctor’s office. How wonderful to be dealing with cold/flu and NOT cancer!
Sarah – Feel better soon. Gets lots of R&R. Becky
So much sickness going around… I hope Sarah feels better very soon!!
