In just a few minutes, Sheri (AKA The Other Grandma) will be picking me to take me to the Orlando airport to fly back to Norfolk.
I should be home by about 7:30 tonight and then will leave the house at 7 a.m. tomorrow for four doctor appointments in Greenville which should translate into a 12-hour day. Fortunately I will have the happy memories of this special weekend to sustain me.
Since I don’t have tons of time this morning, I’ll just post a few highlight photos and go into more detail in future posts.
Noah’s birthday party was held yesterday at Frank and Sheri’s house. In case you couldn’t tell, the theme of the party . . .
was mustaches.
Since I am out of the loop concerning 1-year old birthday parties, I discovered that the trend now is to have a smash cake (separate from the main cake) for the guest of honor to enjoy. Noah heartily approved of that tradition.
Here he is with some the people who are the most gaga over him.
Love that little man.
And I love watching my son love his little man.
And oh, by the way . . . you don’t have to worry. We did bring out the Smith Birthday Hat. (If you’re new around here, the birthday hat has been worn by the members of our family for the fifteen years.)
I am happy to announce that Noah is now an Official Smith.
Is that not the sweetest face ever?
Happy birthday, darling boy.
We have just returned from being out of the country on vacation….so much to catch up on!! Sarah’s hair is adorable on her. Love it! A very (belated) happy first birthday to Noah. Getting to be there to help him celebrate had to be so special. How thoughtful of your congregation to make that happen for you! Sir Noah is just way to cute for words!! 🙂 And finally, I am so sorry for your family’s loss as well. I will keep them in my prayers.
LeeAnne,
Welcome back to the good ol’ U.S.A! Hope you had a great time. Thanks for taking the time to catch up on all you missed!
Becky,
So glad you were able to be at the party. When your church members gave you the plane ticket, they also gave Noah a wonderful gift for his birthday…his Grandma Smith! What a great gift for both of you, and the memories will be an everlasting gift for all of you, and can live on in future Smith generations! What a beautiful, happy, blessed child and family!
Hope goes well at your doctors’ appointments. I will be praying for you.

Linda,
Thanks so much for your sweet words. It is very true what they said–the gift was a double blessing, for me AND for Noah. I was so very thankful for the chance to go.
Beautiful pictures. Love the ones with the birthday hat and all the smiles. Hope your appts go well on Tuesday. You should be home by now and probably in bed. We will be having a blood drive tomorrow from 12-6 PM. Will have pizza and sandwiches for the donors. Glad you had a gift given to be with Noah for his first birthday. Also the precious one of you and Noah is an awesome picture.
Ann,
I noticed you wrote this comment at 8:40 pm and you were right–I was in bed! Quite happily in bed, I might add. What whirlwind week!
Thanks for your work at the blood drive; such a great thing to do.
I see that the smash cake was also a mustache… how cute!
Mrs. Pam,
Yes, wasn’t that darling? A woman in their church made both cakes.
Oh my gosh, he is so beautifully blonde!! Wonderful pictures, so happy you were able to celebrate with them.
Lesley,
What amazes me is that his blond hair is exactly the color of Nathan’s blond hair. Exactly! Love it.
What a smile!
Steve,
It makes the lights come on, that’s for sure.
So glad you had a happy trip. Noah looks like such a sweet baby. It’s Thanksgiving here this weekend and my brother, his wife and their baby flew im from Ottawa for the week. I got to meet my sweet baby niece for the first time yesterday and it was so wonderful! !
Oh how fun, Jenna! So glad you finally got to meet your sweet niece–definitely, something to make Thanksgiving all the more wonderful.
So very happy THE HAT made it to the party and Noah seemed to be very happy to wear it in style and carry on the tradition. What a cutie! Safe travels, prayers for strength for your day of doctors’ appointments and can’t wait to hear the details of the mustache party. Great theme!
Mary,
Yes, I figured my blog readers would be looking for the hat and grabbed it at the last minute.
too precious for words. So happy you were there
Becky,
Precious is a good word for it!
