There is a hallway in Manteo . . .
that leads you around a corner. . .
to a stage. (To the right is the audience, to the left is a bay. It’s a really cool stage.)
Last Saturday, this particular stage was full of music gear.
And water. And a pear.
Song lists appeared . . .
as did cool looking, creative people.
In fact, some of the people on the stage actually looked quite famous . . .
almost like I had seen them before somewhere.
I mean look at this guy, for example. I have definitely seen his face a lot, probably in a magazine or on TV.
I wondered if “his people” would let me get close enough to get an autograph.
I wondered if I’d have the courage to walk up to such a famous person and talk to him and tell him that I think he’s cute.
I wondered if I batted my eyelashes at him enough, he’d let me sing a song of my own.
Yep. It worked!

And now here’s the rest of the story . . .
If you’re wondering exactly what Steve and I were doing on that big ol’ stage, we were taking part in a fundraiser for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation that was supported by townspeople and churches alike. In fact, that cool guy Steve was talking to in the above picture is the pastor of another church on the island; he also played Jesus in our church’s Easter drama.
The worship team from his church did some music after Steve and i sang and they were so good; I especially loved their lead singer.
As I watched her sing, I couldn’t help but think that she would love to get some funky fashion tips from me since I am so cutting edge in my clothing choices and she is so plain and boring. (Ha.)
Actually, I absolutely loved her outfit and only wished I had the youthful, funky panache to pull it off. Sigh. I think I am in the middle-aged, brown stage of life.
But I digress . . .
Besides having a lot of music on the agenda, the sponsors of the event (Advance Auto Parts) also put together a car show. I happened upon this dad taking a picture of his son and had to smile since the little boy is turning around to gape at the big car instead of looking at his dad’s camera. Guys start admiring cars really young in life, don’t they?
Bottom line? It was a great day to invest in a great cause.
And now I think I feel the urge to go out and shop for something that’s not brown.
We don’t get to hear you singing?? Please???
Lisa, sorry, nothing was recorded. But maybe when we do it again we’ll record a snippet or two. 🙂
Becky, you look terrific (and not just “for your age”)! There is something rather sad and ridiculous when women who should know better try to pull off the look of the young singer. That kind of style is definitely for the younger among us.
MNMom, thanks for your encouragement. I actually do have colorful clothes in my closet; I just happened to notice (and be amused by) the huge difference between and my younger friend. 🙂
What a cool venue. We all need a little color but at some point we think we shouldn’t, but we SHOULD – so go do it, Becky. Not that I didn’t like your outfit, I’m just saying……
Mary, yes, that is a very cool venue; one of the prettiest I’ve seen. And yes, I do have tons of colorful stuff; I must have just been in a brown mood that day. 🙂
Ditto-ing cindystars…also, miss the health of my 20 year old body!
Guerrina, Hmmm, never saw the word “ditto” turned into a verb before. Love it!
I love brown. Its very nice. And “fall-ish.” Besides, looking like a twenty-year-old is very overrated 🙂
Jessica, brown and gold are some of my favorite “go to” colors but I do like a splash of color thrown in.
I agree…go shopping! Brown is nice and safe….Color is FUN! cannot wait to see the new color pictures!
Cindystars, I agree, color IS fun! I have a lot of orange in my closet which I need to pull out more since we’ve gotten into fall. And thankfully, orange goes well with brown!
What fun! Love, the other boring brown lady. 🙂
Nonny, it really was fun!
