News of A Happy Sort

January 28, 2019

Two weeks ago, Nathan and Meagan called us to video chat. Sarah hadn’t gone back to college yet so all five of us were able to be in on the call which doesn’t always happen.

We talked for a few minutes about various miscellany and then Nathan said, “Oh, there’s something we want to show you!”

I was thinking they had bought something new for the kitchen or for one of the kid’s bedrooms but that wasn’t it.

Instead it was  . . .

something . . . .

rather . . . .

amazing . . .

and joyful . . .

and unexpected . . .

and fabulous . . .

which was . . .

 T H I S ! !

Yes, it’s true!  Later this year, Steve and I are going to be grandparents for the FOURTH time!

Were Nathan and Meagan surprised?  Yep. They were.

But they have always wanted  to have a large-ish family and Meagan has always said she wanted an even number of kids. So there you go.  One even-numbered family coming up!

This is the picture and announcement they put on Facebook.

This is some really big news for a really little guy! He’s six months today and has already been promoted to big brother status. He is full of life and smiles. He will make an excellent big bro! Noah and Madi are pretty excited too. Mommy and Daddy are a little surprised but so excited to add another baby love to our clan.

Steve and I are thrilled that their home will be blessed with another pair of pitter-pattering feet and also happy that we will have yet another reason to point our car in a Floridian direction.

It was sort of funny–the night they told us, I was really, really tired and not thinking real clearly. They had actually taken two pregnancy tests to double-check the results and when I saw both sticks sitting side by side, the first thing that came to my mind was, “Oh my! They are having TWINS!”   (Don’t judge. I WAS in a fuzzy state of mind.)   ðŸ™‚

After I had blurted the twin question out loud Sarah said dryly, “Mom, you DO understand how all this works, right?”

So anyway, we just wanted to share the happy news with you and get you used to the idea that in a few months, you will be inundated with even MORE pictures of even MORE darling Smith children.

(P.S. Sheri, Meagans’s mom has also posted about the news this morning. You can read her version here.)

What about you?  Do you have a pregnancy-sharing story? Either about when you shared it with someone or when someone shared it with you?  Were any of your children born close together?

I can share that my daughter recently had my 4th grandchild on February 2nd! She has 2 boys ages 15 & 11, and now 2 girls ages 4 and NB. I hope to someday meet your family on one of your trips to FL. My son lives in Davenport, so that is almost 2 chances in FL 🙂

My son is adopted so we were the ones who received news of our own child. ? We got a call from our social worker telling us that his birth mother had chosen us to be his parents. He was already born. Naturally it’s a call I’ll never forget. How surreal in that moment to find out that our worlds were going to change in 4 short days.

    • Becky says:

      Ellen,

I can not EVEN imagine picking up the phone and hearing that news. Those four days must have been an amazing amalgam of excitement, worry, love, preparation, phone calls, errands, tears, laughter . . . all leading up to The Moment when you met your son for the first time. I love hearing stories of when children are chosen by the love in their parents’ hearts.

How exciting! What wonderful news….congratulations!! Can’t wait for the pictures. I never get tired of seeing cute baby pictures. 🙂
My kids are 2-1/2 years apart and I think I would have gone crazy if they were only 15 months apart. Nathan and Meagan are brave indeed. 😉
We have four grandchildren and they all arrived in a 25 month span. My daughter and son said they always wanted their kids to be close in age and grow up together and that’s what they did! Love!!!

      LeeAnne,

That is one of my few regrets about having a son and daughter 6 years apart and that is that their children are going to be quite a few years apart. You are blessed to have your grandkids all so close in age. Lots of growing up fun to be had!

What exciting and surprising news!!! So happy for all the Smith clan. As I scrolled down, I thought MAYBE a new car, but was completely surprised by what I saw! I completely understand your reaction to seeing two tests, but also loved Sarah’s response. And what a cute announcement Meagan came up with. I can’t wait to see more pics and watch the sweet baby bump grow.

    • Becky says:

      Sue Ellen,

It does seem rather incredible to be starting the grandparent journey for the FOURTH time! Can’t wait to meet the newest addition to the Smith Clan.

    Congratulations on the new grandbaby!
I don’t have any kids but still remember when my mom told us she was expecting my younger brother. He is 8 years younger than me. We were shelling peas so it must have been June or July and he was born in November. So I’m guessing my mom was at least 4 months along.
My brother’s ex-wife’s daughter from her first marriage (follow that?) just announced they are expecting number 7! The oldest is 12, youngest is 15 months. Her 10 year old son is Type 1 diabetic. They have always wanted a big family. Her announcement on Facebook was cute. The kids were all lined up from oldest to youngest. Above their heads are gold number balloons from 1-6. She is holding number 7 in front of her.

    • Becky says:

      Phyllis,

I love the gold number balloon baby announcement. Seven kids in 12 years equals a very busy mama. Glad she had wanted a large family all along!

My 5 kids are all 18 months apart. They are truly best friends. Funny. Folks would ask how I did it. Told them it was easy when they were little. Took one to the park no different than taking 5 to the park. Got complicated when they all played sports in high school. My record is 21 games in one week (tournament time for all 5). And then there was college tuition…had at least two in at once and sometimes three. Actually had three weddings between April and December this year. So much fun….am blessed!

    • Becky says:

      Carrie,

After reading your comment, all I can do is sit here and shake my head. 21 games in one week? Two kids in college at the same time? Three weddings in 9 months?

My life suddenly seems quite calm and non-eventful.

Bless you and your sweet family and may the years to come be filled with many kinds of happiness.

Thanks to EVERYONE for rejoicing with us on the newly expanding Smith Tribe! I still don’t feel like I could possibly be old enough to be grandmother of one, let alone FOUR. Wasn’t I just 27 yesterday?

    Hmm. I guess not. 🙂
