You may remember these two pictures I posted a couple of months ago.
I took them on the way home from a doctor’s appointment Greenville. For some reason, as many times as I have passed this lovely area, I have always stayed on this one side of the bridge and never ventured to the other side which includes the quaint, downtown area of Columbia.
So this past Tuesday? I declared it to be Venturing Across the Bridge Day. And I’m ever so glad I did because I found all sorts of delights to look at. I even discovered a new friend whom I have named Filbert. (You’ll meet him a minute.)
In the meantime, enjoy your tour of yet another Southern small town .
I was charmed by the gazebo near the river.
I loved the boat building going on right on Main St.
I was entranced by this lovely alleyway replete with flowers and shrubs . . .
and especially intrigued by this shop that provided outside stools for eating ice cream and sandwiches. How fun is that?
I found the Box Office Antiques and Gift Store . . .
and figured out pretty quickly why it had that name.It was next to an old theater building which is now used as a museum. I peeked into the windows and absolutely loved what little I could see; I’ll have to stop by again when it’s open.
I thought this was the cutest little bench.
Here is the entrance to another antique store. Note the old suitcases piled to the left.
Need a haircut? They’ve got you covered.
Need a trim and a shave? You’re good to go.
And finally—here’s my new friend, Filbert. He is a made-of-metal waiter who seems to hang out quite a bit at the entrance to that lovely alley I showed you a few picture ago.
He was such a cheery looking fella. I especially loved the way his hair sort of blew out behind him; such a vintage, eclectic, eccentric, Filbert-esque look.
New friend.
Lovely town.
Good day.
Still amazes me that you can take all those pics (even of SIDEWALKS, and not have wall to wall people in the photo!) I forget what life can be outside of California!! Sigh…..
Jojy,
In the 30 minutes that I walked downtown I saw a total of TWO other people! None of the stores were open so I guess there was no reason to be down there. And yes, I truly do feel spoiled by these wide, open spaces!
This makes me want to go visit Columbia. I lived near there and worked with First Colony Farms 39 yrs. ago. Great pics and descripts, Becky
Se e ya soon, Scooter
Scooter,
I liked your line about “pics and descripts.” That pretty well sums up what I do!
gorgeous… I’m ready to move!
is that a pediatric cancer gold ribbon in the window?
Mrs.
Why yes, I think it is. Good eye!
