Do you recognize the couple in this picture?
Yep! It’s Steve and me, back when we were a couple of spring chickens.
And why would I be showing this picture to you for no apparent reason whatsoever?
Well, it’s because of this couple—Bobby and Catherine Clifton.
Twenty years ago, Steve performed Bobby and Catherine’s wedding ceremony and this past weekend, the Cliftons came to the Outer Banks to celebrate their anniversary. While they were here, they asked Steve to renew their vows on the Manteo waterfront.
Catherine was in Steve’s and my youth group thirty years ago so she goes back a long way with our family. We are so proud of Catherine and Bobby and their two sweet kids. They are great folks.
During the time we spent together on Saturday, Catherine pulled out her photo albums and revealed a whole bunch of vintage pictures that she had brought along. Be still my heart—I LOVE seeing old pictures, especially those that I had completely forgotten about!
This is another one taken on the Clifton’s wedding day. As I mentioned, Steve performed the ceremony, I sang, Nathan was the ring bearer and my dad walked Catherine down the aisle.
During the rehearsal we carefully instructed Nathan (over and over) to walk slowly down the aisle as he carried the ring. He actually ended up doing a Nathan-ized version of a sprint, but oh well. At least he was cute.
Catherine also had some other Smith family photos in her possession that we had given her over the years—once more, these were photos I had forgotten about so they were even more of a treasure. (Thanks for the great memories, Catherine!)
And this last one?
On the left is a recent photo of Noah sporting his first tie.
On the right is a picture of his dad, sporting a tie of his own.
And just one more . . .
Is it just me, or are the Smith fellas really, really cute?
Right on! really, really cute!
Mrs Pam,
🙂
What pretty blue eyes Noah has!
Phyllis,
Yes, I think they are quite handsome, myself!
Noah is absolutely adorable!!! (The other two are cute too)!
Dale,
Absolutely adorable is absolutely right!
Are you sure that’s not Conan O’Brien you’re with!!
Anonymous,
Well, now that you mention it . . .!
Ahhhh…such good-looking Smith men!! Noah is just too cute!! Love the tie! 🙂
LeeAnne,
He’s got that “little preacher” look going on.
Becky, it is not just you. The Smith fellas are really, really cute! Love old photos!
Liz,
Aren’t old photos the best? it’s so fun to look back at what used to be!
Thank you Becky! Iam so glad you like the old photos. I love the new ones! I already printed some out. I will send you some. Thanks again!!
Catherine,
So glad you’re liking the new photos; I enjoyed taking them!
I’m sorry, I think I just read that youth group was 30 years ago!!??!! Can’t be! I need to go take some Geritol and lay down…..
Andrea,
Pour me a glass of Geritol while you’re at it! 🙂 (Always nice to hear from another youth group member!)
Oh how the years go by. ..
I was hoping you’d post a picture of Noah sleeping, lips pursed, adjacent to the one above of Nathan sleeping, lips pursed. Regardless, there’s no denying….the Smith men got a massive dose of the cute gene!
…and the Smith women, too, of course! (Slapping myself upside the head for not fitting that in originally.)
Jan,
Don’t slap yourself upside the head TOO hard! That would be funny to have a picture of Noah sleeping in same pose as Nathan.
I can see from these pictures where Noah got his cute from! Love the walk down memory lane.
Cindy from Sonoma
Cindy,
I love the line, ” . . . where Noah got his cute from.”
