Mama Moments

April 26, 2021

Note: there was a comment left yesterday asking where to find the Go Fund Me Link.  If you scroll down the right column, you’ll see it right below the photo of Sarah and Gage. Thanks again, to everyone who has donated.

I just got to Duke a few minutes ago and got to visit with Sarah a few minutes just before she drifted off to sleep.

The dietician has been in and out a few times and she also had a CT scan. The infectious disease doctor is due this afternoon.

She ran a 103 temp last night and seemed a little warm when I arrived. Hopefully, the infectious disease doctor can make some sense of it all.

At this point, we are basically on hold while she is observed and tests are run and answers are pursued.

I had a few “mama moments” this morning getting ready to leave.

The first one was when I walked by the door to her bedroom. As the date of her wedding has grown closer, I have been thinking about how increasingly precious these last few weeks of her sleeping under our roof are.  And when I walked by the door and it hit me suddenly that she wasn’t up there tucked into her bed, well, I shed a few mama tears.

And then as I was getting ready to head out for Duke, I happened to glance at her car parked in its usual spot—the car with the COA (community college) and Regent University stickers affixed to the back.  It was a sight that gave me pause as I thought about all the things she has done, and all that she has accomplished zooming around in that car. I also thought about the fact that she hasn’t felt well enough to drive it for the past week or two and that was what really slowed me in my tracks.

My deepest prayer and hope is that I will soon see her back behind the wheel of that car–strong and healthy, driving off once again into the continuing great adventure of her life.

Thank you for taking the time to update. I have thought so many times about what your “mama heart” is going through and just can’t imagine all that you’ve been feeling. Praying your sweet Sarah gets answers with easy as possible fixes very soon and you can all focus on that wonderful day that is planned for in just a few weeks! Thoughts and prayers are with you all.

    Becky,
Thank you for taking the time to update us. I love DeLynn’s comment, claiming Romans 8:26 “The Holy Spirit prays for us with such feeling that it cannot be expressed in words”. Claiming Psalms 91:4 &14 for Sarah today, “He will shield you with his wings, his faithful promises are your armor .. “Because he loves me, I will rescue him” ..

    Love,
    Cousin Gloria

Sending you a big big hug all the way from Western Canada. I really hope and pray that soon solid answers are found that solve the eating/ tiredness/ fevers/ platelets issues. Please know how many people care about all of you. I know you have such a wonderful in-person community supporting you all, but if there is anything I can do, on top of donating, please do not hesitate to reach out.

  12. Bev Herrema says:

Praying in Colorado! For Sarah… For you…

  13. DeLynn says:

This is what came to mind as I read your two updates just now. The Spirit is interceding on behalf of Sarah and all of you who are concerned about you. The Spirit Himself. ❤️

“Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.“ Romans 8:26

  14. Teresa Hewitt says:

“She seemed a little warm to me” – I could imagine your hand tenderly cupping your most precious girl’s forehead, anxiously feeling for a fever, as Mamas everywhere do and have always done.

Always with love, Teresa and Juliet xx

Praying for the infectious disease doctor to work his/her magic. Praying Sarah gets some nourishment and some decent sleep in the hospital. Praying for peace of mind for all who love her. You’re allowed Mama moments. I just wish you didn’t have reasons for so many!

  16. Stefanie says:

I love adventure, but I absolutely do NOT love “adventures” that are unplanned or painful or forced upon me. And I’m sure you and Sarah and your family agree.

What a horrible turn of events over the weekend. I will say, though – two things: one – the Outer Banks Hospital is a lovely building; and two – I’m glad Sarah is back at Duke, where she needs to be right now.

Much love and light to yall.

  17. Tricia says:

Still lifting Sarah in prayer here in GA.

  18. Joanie & Bob Gitzel says:

God must seem far away as you struggle for answers but just know He’s still at work. The answer is on its way! People are praying for all of you 🍄

Boy, if that car doesn’t scream Sarah! I love the look and spunkiness… As Isit here and pray for Sarah, I think of how much she has overcome and how much more zipping around she has to do! I will be praying for answers, that Sarah will regain her appetite and smiles, so that she can again be planning her future again — wedding, travel and togetherness….

Warm comfy and friendly hugs…… from CA.

  22. Sharyn McDonald says:

And those mama moments will always come. Hoping they will be moments that will make you smile.
As Sarah gets well and the wedding comes, there will be lots of smiling to be done. Anxious right along with you to see that beautiful girl’s eye dance with joy again!
