Late Friday afternoon as Steve and I were taking a bike ride, I made a comment to him about how clean and clear the light looked. It was a pristine, unseasonably warm evening and the world around us was utterly gorgeous.
As we rode along, I realized I hadn’t gone out in a while just to take pictures so when we got back to the house, I grabbed Mr. Nikon, hopped in the car and drove about four miles down to the north bridge at the end of Roanoke Island to spend a blissful 45 minutes capturing clear light, great beauty, and God’s creation.
(Note: There is a new Readers’ Recipes tab in the Navigation Bar at the top of the page. If you have a great recipe you’d like to share with us, leave it in the comments and I’ll move it to the proper place. Or you can go to the contact tab and email it to me. I’ll also be adding another tab soon with some of my own favorite recipes.)
Coming from a person in a “land locked state” Colorado- These pictures are beautiful. Of course I have the “purple mountains majesty” to look at daily here:) I guess there is beauty everywhere you look! God sure thought of everything. I am sure there is even beauty is some of the “less-thought of” states (Kansas, Iowa etc.)
Jackie, you’re absolutely right–there is beauty in every state. When we spent 15 years traveling to 35 states, I was continually amazed by the variety that each state offered. And while some states weren’t as “traditionally beautiful” as other states, every single state had its own brand of beauty to offer. I loved it!
Just enjoy the pictures of the water. I, too, do not swim but really like to sit and watch the water. The water rolling in and the “foam” it leaves is awesome in your pictures.
Ann, yeah, I really liked that foam, too!
Love the photos. With all the drift wood and old trees you really captured the peaceful yet majestically powerful qualities of the sea.
Recipe:
Chocolate Cherry Dr. Pepper Cake
1 box chocolate cake mix
12 oz Diet Dr. Pepper
Mix two ingredients together and bake according to time and temperature directions on cake mix box in a 9 X 13 inch cake pan.
Cool completely then top with one can of cherry pie filling.
Add a teaspoon of whipped topping per serving if desired.
Janet, that recipe sounds easy and delicious–thanks for sending it. I just posted it in the nav bar.
Beautiful photos. I miss the sea so.
Patti, being near water really does get deep down into your bones. I never really knew that until we started living here.
You have it right there! I lived 6 miles from the beach in Southern CA until we retired to my husbands hometown in Michigan! (I do however like the snow here) The sea is so refreshing and just revitilizes your soul. The east coast is quite different than the west coast, but both are fabulous. Hope to get to the east coast soon.
Patti, I last saw the Pacific ocean when I was about 8 years old but the pictures I see of it make me want to run over there immediately, camera in hand. Such a gorgeous place! However, as a girl who grew up in Wisconsin and spent time in Michigan as an adult, there is a lot to be said for that area of the country. The Great Lakes are especially beautiful!
Yes, the Great Lakes are wonderful, and they have a lot of lighthouses on them too! Lake Michigan has 70 some just on that one lake.
amazing pictures as usual Becky, sure does make me want to be there to witness the beauty that you have captured.
Thanks, Nancy. I feel very blessed to have such loveliness to take pictures of!
The pictures make me want to drive to the beach now!! 🙂 Thanks for bringing it to the “inland” people until we can get there!! I love sunsets on the beach… so peaceful and beautiful!!
Tiffany, drive away! 🙂 I’m happy to send my photos inland if it means providing a breath of quietness and peace for a few seconds.
wow how absolutely breathtaking. In the second to the last picture, is that a road/bridge you drive on or just a very long pier? It looks awfully spindle-y for driving on! O.o
Rachel, I agree that the road does look very spindle-y in the picture but that’s just the perspective that I took the picture from. It’s actually a 2-lane, 5-mile bridge that is one of just two ways you can access the island from the mainland.
Angela, you’re absolutely right! It’s so lovely around here–even though I’m not a “water girl” as far as liking to swim, I sure do like looking at it.
Nothing like the beauty of the NC coast.
