I just couldn’t resist sharing a few highlights of my birthday with you before I close out the “Turning Fifty” Chapter of my life.
Here’s the sign that greeted me when I got to work yesterday, thanks to my darling husband.
And speaking of my hubby, this is the shirt he bought me, along with matching dark brown pants. He said he just thought it looked like me and that the blue would bring out my eye color.
A close up. Ain’t it purty?
My darling daughter created a custom card for me with Photoshop at school. I must say it’s great having a daughter with whom I have so much in common—writing, photography, graphic design, editing, blogging . . .
She’s a keeper.
Tucked inside the card was a movie ticket to The Hunger Games which comes to our area in two weeks. (We have been reading through the book together at night before bed.) She and I are going with her friend, Taylor, and Taylor’s mom. Sarah paid for the ticket and also informed me that she would pay for any snacks I had at the movie. Hmmm. I think I feel a large popcorn/large drink/large candy bar binge coming on. (Just kidding, Sarah!)
She also gave me a lovely necklace, picture frame candle, and a box of whimsical note cards. The people in my life know that I can NEVER have too many candles, too much stationery, or too many pieces of costumer jewelry. They are my three favorite gift categories—in addition to chocolate, of course.
This was my first birthday as a mother-in-law so that was sort of cool. My sweet, beautiful, thoughtful, creative daughter-in-law and her husband put together such a fun package for me. What was especially touching was that each gift item had a special meaning behind it.
Here is the line up along with the accompanying description:
Dear Mom Book: Because you are an excellent writer and you always have the perfect words when we’re in need.
Apron: Because you are an amazing cook and you always make sure we are well nourished.
Gold Coins: Because you are thrifty and you taught us to be the same.
Name Tags: Because you taught us how to be kind and welcoming to others.
Earrings: Because you are beautiful inside and out and you taught us to be like that in private and in public. (At this point in the gift opening process, I was crying!)
The Oreos are our way of being able to give you a birthday cake.
Finally, because you do all of the above so well, we wanted to treat you to a night out on us. The Outback card has $30 so you and Dad can go on a date. Hope you enjoy!
How blessed am I? I have dear family and sweet friends and wonderful blog readers who made my 50th birthday so very memorable.
Turning fifty? I highly recommend it.
hey! i like that last picture! Very nice for 50 🙂
Thanks, Lesley. I figured it would be fun to snap a pix of myself right on my 50th birthday, just to say, “Here I am after half a century of life!” 🙂
Pfffft…. You can have as many birthday posts as you’d like!! My boss insists that everyone gets a ‘birthday month’ so you have nearly another 3 weeks with which to milk it.
Kristina,
I think your boss is a very wise person. I will continue to celebrate!
You are a lucky lady! What a special day for a special mom/wife/woman/friend 🙂
Nancy,
It really was a special day–low key, but sweet and enjoyable. I am blessed.
(btw, I remember when Steve’s parents lettered the church sign.)
What wonderful presents from your whole family… except you didn’t mention receiving anything from Snowy. Maybe, just some extra lovin’.
Mrs. Pam,
Yes, putting letters on the church sign is one of the many jobs that Ken and Vernie have been assigned on a trip to our house. They might be tempted to start staying home so they can get some rest!
Wait…they make birthday cake Oreos?!
Melissa,
Meagan said they were brand new so they might not be in all the stores yet. And by the way, they were delicious; I love them a lot more than regular Oreos.
All of these are so sweet and thoughtful! Enjoy!
Jill,
Yes, the day was certainly filled with sweet and thoughtful things. I will have a lot of good memories from this birthday.
Wow – what a wonderful collection of thoughtful, loving, beautiful gifts from the hearts of those who love you! Enjoy the “fruits of your labors” Becky – you deserve them!
Jennyjot,
Beautiful gifts from beautiful hearts. It was a great day!
