Ok. I’m doing something I’ve rarely done before and that is to take a day off from my regular weekly post. (Except for publishing this brief post saying that I won’t be doing a regular post today.)
Since it’s Labor Day, I know you are probably out and about today doing all sorts of non-computer-based things. And since it’s Labor Day, I have the day off from work and have a ton of work to do with Steve down in our basement.
And so I’m going to cease from my labors at work and cease from my labors on this blog and direct all my labors into the basement.
September 17 will make a year since we’ve been in this house and I am determined to make some progress on organization and sorting today.
Have a wonderful Labor Day and thank you for always being such dear and loyal readers. I hope there is sunshine in your life today–if not outdoors, at least in your hearts.
See you next week!
Tell me one or two things YOU are planning on doing on this Labor Day.
Well, it sounds like you really didn’t get a day off for Labor Day, but at least you were able to spend the day with Steve!
Fred and Lucy,
Every day with Steve is a good one!
You’ve already been there a YEAR? What is happening to time?!! 😱🙂
Ellen,
I know; tell me about it!
Starting home from Branson. We usually do it in one day, but as my husband is doing the driving (I do drive, but sometimes my osteoarthritis acts up in my wrists) he has decided to stay overnight and get home tomorrow. Very, very, hot and windy. More when we get home, BUT the next day the high is to be 69 not 99!!
Sharyn,
A high of 69 sounds fabulous. Glad you got to take a trip to Branson!
No plans for today – the past two days were spent with family smoking meats and eating lots of good food. I hope you get a lot accomplished in organizing your basement. It doesn’t seem to me like you’ve been there a whole year already. Have a wonderful rest of your week!
Sue Ellen,
I’ve never smoked meat before. I’m assuming that’s a whole different thing than grilling out? Sounds interesting, whatever it is. 🙂
Smoking meat is a type of grilling out. But instead of a charcoal or gas grill, we use a smoker fueled by wood pellets. Different types of pellets, such as pecan, hickory & mesquite, produce subtle differences in the taste of the finished meats.
Sue Ellen,
Very interesting to know. It sounds like it would yield some delicious food!
I think everyone deserves a day off from time to time. But working in the basement doesn’t sound like a day off to me! I need to get out in my garage but it’s too hot here plus I just had cataract surgery this past Wednesday so probably not the time to be working out there as I’m supposed to avoid dust and not lift anything over 20 pounds. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
I don’t have a lot planned for today. In a bit, I’m going to get some reading in. Later I plan to order dinner from a local barbeque place.
Phyllis,
Kind of nice when the doctor gives you a good reason for not working real hard. I hope you enjoyed your break!
You deserve a day off from everything!
Liz,
Thanks. I took one of those on Saturday!
I can’t believe it’s already been a year! But looking back at all you’ve accomplished in that year, I’m amazed!!!
Enjoy your time “off” and good luck with the basement!
Stefanie,
I’m hopeful that by the time Steve and I turn 80, we will have that ol’ basement whipped into shape! 🙂
We just moved into our new home a couple of weeks ago. I plan on getting out into the yard this morning while it is still cool and doing some much-needed weeding and pruning. The kids will be coming over later today and we will be celebrating the ability to be together. 🥰 Happy Labor Day!
LeeAnne,
I wish I was a yard person who knew all about pruning things. I’m sure it was lovely when you were all done!
Enjoy your day off working in the basement. Have been in our house 13 years and still have a storage room full of stuff…
We have no plans for today. When retired, everyday is a day off, so Labor Day isn’t the same. I will probably do some quilting as that is my favorite thing to do.
Patti,
Keep up with your quilting; that is a dying art and I’m so glad to hear that people are still doing it!
We are eating breakfast at Cracker Barrel with my hubby’s sister and her hubby. And we are traveling home from Massanutten Resort near Harrisonburg Va. Should take us 5.5 hrs. We had a wonderful week with some of the Clark family and our son. They all left yesterday. Nephews and families. Lots of littles. 19 of us. Whew! Home to rest!
Have a great day laboring in your basement. ❤️
Buff
Buff,
Love CB’s pecan pancakes and potato casserole.
Nineteen people for a week! Joyful chaos for sure but I’m sure you’re enjoying your peace and quiet.
