Jungle Baby Shower. Tap Dance In My Dreams.

January 12, 2016

Scroll to the bottom of this post for some non-Jungle news.

A couple of years ago, I did a post on a Dinosaur-theme baby shower I attended and, on a whim, posted it on Pinterest. I was amazed by the response which tells me that there are a lot of mamas and grandmas out there who are more than a little interested in decorating ideas for their little darlings!

And who can blame them? There is no one more delightful to decorate for than a darling!

So with that in mind, I’ve put together another shower post, this one based on a Jungle Shower Theme. Most of the photos are from a shower that was given for our associate pastor but a few additional photos are from our grandson, Noah’s, shower. Although his shower was Woodland-themed, some of the decorations fit the jungle theme quite well.

Enjoy!

(And feel free to use the Pinterest button at the bottom of the post to share. I don’t take many blogging forays into Pinterest so I truly appreciate all the help I can get over there.)

GREAT IDEAS

In other news . . .

If you were to ring my doorbell right now (which I don’t recommend, based on my present, non-showered appearance), I might tap dance to the door and then collapse in a heap once I get there.

And just why is that? Well, for the past few days I’ve been floundering feebly around the house, beset by a sore throat, cough and fever. Yesterday, I finally dragged my sorry self to the doctor who heard wheezing in my lungs and put me on a really high dose of steroids. That means I’m in a sort of twilight zone of feeling really, really peppy while at the same time feeling really, really lethargic. Hence, the tap dancing/collapsing conundrum.

And then as if the steroid-induced, pseudo peppiness was not enough, the doctor also told me to use my Albuterol (rescue inhaler) every 3-4 hours, which is way more than I usually use it. That stuff makes me incredibly jittery which is not exactly what I need right now.

So. I’m feeling like I want to get up and clean the house but just when I take one step toward the cleaning sponge, the sick part of me says, “Go lie down, Girlfriend.”

In between the lying down-moments, and the urge-to-tap dance moments, though, I thought I would put together the above post and at least feel like I’ve accomplished something worthwhile today.

But for right now? It’s Shadrach, Meschack and To-Bed-We-Go.

Note: That (rather weak) joke only works if you’re familiar with the Old Testament story of Shadrach, Meschach, and Abednego.

It’s clearly time to move on to something else and a nap realy is sounding good about right now.  (Maybe I could tap dance in my dreams.)

Sorry you’re not feeling well again. I wish I was there to give you a pan and a spoon like when you were little so you could bang on the pan and let me know you needed help!
    Love you much!

    Mom

    So sorry you’re sick and a little loopy. Could be entertaining! I’m there in spirit plucking worriedly at your sleeve. :-}

    Love, deb

Wow! I finally made the common-tators list!

Many moons ago at my old church, the choir and youth performed “The Fiery Furnace”. i was in charge of the scenery, costumes, and props. I have to brag on one piece of scenery…. picture S&M&A holding a 12 foot long cardboard of red, yellow and orange flames shooting up about 3 feet.
We are singing “it isn’t hot in the furnace, man, that furnace is cool.” THEN the kids flip the flames over, and they are now white and silver icicles hanging down.

    sorta clever, huh?

    hope you feel better, Becky.

I went to a Cardinals baseball Baby Shower in Nov. for my Goddaughter who had a beautiful boy yesterday. Preston is little, but healthy. Mom could use a few prayers.
She had a c-section, but there were some complications, and she is in a lot of pain today.

    • Becky says:

      Mrs. Pam,

I must say, I am very inspired by the creativity of fire turning into ice with the flip of one’s wrist. Great job!

I’m so glad little Preston was born healthy; what a true, tiny treasure to all who love him. A C-section is not an easy thing to go through; prayers for his mom today.

Love, love, LOVE the thematic shower decorations! I can remember when party sandwiches and a bowl of punch on a pretty white tablecloth were top of the line decor. To be really dressy, a shower was held upstairs in the primary Sunday school assembly room rather than in the church basement.

The names Shadrach, Meschach, and Abednego call to mind one of my father’s favorite (corny) jokes. A man was in a church play, and he had to say Shadrach, Meschach, and Abednego. Well, he wasn’t as young as he used to be, so he used a fountain pen to write those names on the inside of his suit coat. The night of the play, he was so nervous he didn’t realize that his wife laid out a new suit for him, so when it was time for his line, he called out, “It’s Hart Schaffner & Marx!” (It’s ok to google it.)

    Hope you’re feeling better soon.

    • Jan Reuther says:

That should read, “…he wasn’t as young as he used to be, hence he had trouble remember those names.”

    • Becky says:

      Jan,

I love your shower memories; they made me smile because I knew exactly what you were talking about the punch bowl and the white tablecloths and the “dressier” showers. Too funny!

And I loved the joke! (And no, I didn’t have to Google the suit maker’s name; Steve has me well educated.) He’ll enjoy hearing that joke.

  6. Mel says:

Hi Becky: Sorry you are feel ill and hope you feel better soon. Always listen to the “Go lie down girlfriend” voice in your head. Cleaning will always be there for you when you get up.

    • Becky says:

      Mel–thanks!

That’s the best advice I’ve heard all day. 🙂

Although I WAS up at 11:30 last night organizing my scarves and jewelry because I couldn’t sleep.

  7. Suzanne says:

Awww, Feel better soon! I, for one, enjoyed your humor 🙂

  8. beckylp says:

baby showers have sure changed since my baby having days. hope you are feeling much better today

    • Becky says:

      Becky,

Isn’t that the truth? Back in my day, there were a few crackers and punch on the table, a cake, and that was about it.

The decorating looks like great fun, though, if a person is gifted at that sort of thing! (Which I’m not.)

Hmmm If I were talking to my kids I would say drink tons of water and rest.(as a mom, I always push lots of water)

If I were talking to my husband who has breathing issues, I would say “you need some fresh air” go for a leisurely bike ride. (doctor recommended) Hope you fell better soon!

    • Becky says:

      Anonymous,

      Yep, I’d a big water drinker/pusher, too.

And the idea of fresh air sounds good but it’s only about 36 degrees today so the wimpy side of me doesn’t want to go out for long. I did stand on the back deck for a few moments and just breathed in that refreshing scent of winter.

  10. Ann Martin says:

Praying you feel better soon. Rest as much as possible.

    • Becky says:

      Ann,

Thanks for the prayers! I am going to try to get into work for a couple of hours today but will do lots of resting before and after. My steroid kept me awake last night so I’m feeling rather nap-py right now.

  11. Nicole says:

Hoping your nap helps you feel better! Take care!

  12. Mary H says:

Feel better soon. Those steroids can really play a number on your body. I was on them once and my girls thought I had lost my mind!

    • Becky says:

      Mary,

I love your use of the word, “once.” In other words, that one time was more than enough, right? 🙂

At least I’m not affected too adversely by taking the steroids, so I’m thankful for that.

  13. LeeAnne says:

Oooohh…darn it! So sorry that the bug finally caught up with you. 🙁 I hope you are feeling better really soon.
The shower pictures are just darling. How creative!!
Take care and happy dancing! (Or dreaming. . . 😉 )

    • Becky says:

      LeeAnne,

Yes, it DID catch up with me. I was so proud that I had escaped all the sickness going around the house but it sort of sneaked up on me after the fact. Looking forward to feeling better soon!

  14. Jodi says:

    Becky:

Do you rinse your mouth out after using the albuterol inhaler? If so, & you’re still shaky, etc., you may want to try Xopenex HFA! It was a game changer for me! Albuterol made me feel so awful that sometimes I’d decide skipping it & wheezing would be better…..& as you know, that’s saying something!

Sure hope you feel better soon! I’m sorry you ended up being bitten by the Christmas bug after all!

    Jodi

  15. Awww … so sorry you’re down? Up? Hated being on high dose prednisone last Spring … made my head turn 360 – was, uhm, grouchy – so am glad the albuterol is making you tap dance ☺ Are you singing in the rain as well? Prayers up for you!

    • Becky says:

      Guerrina,

Grouchiness and tap dancing. Steroids seem to have all sorts of effects on us! No singing in the rain yet; beautiful sunshine here today. 🙂
