Into the Future

February 3, 2017

On Monday, I will have a guest writer on Smithellaneous. Be sure to check back in to find out who it is.

On Tuesday, I went to Virginia Beach to pick up some microphones for the church. Happily, my travels took me right past Regent University where a certain child of my heart attends. I’m sure I don’t need to bother to tell you that my car just magically steered itself right into the campus and stopped itself near her dorm. It’s amazing the quality of automatic navigation that cars come equipped with these days

Not only did my car have automatic navigation, Sarah’s own personal GPS was working just fine too; it brought her straight to me.

On our campus meanderings,  I made sure to get some photos of all the loveliness.

One of my favorite things I saw was this sign. I love it when out-of-the-ordinary names are utilized.

According to the website, The Center for Student Happiness (CSH) exists to increase the quality of the student’s experience at Regent University. In addition to our free success coaching, 24/7 support, workshops, and other programming, we welcome ideas or feedback about student happiness.

Since I am making an attempt to get in front of the camera a little more, I had Sarah get a shot of me on the steps of the chapel. I love these red doors.

Or course a selfie had to be taken.

And after the selfie, there was a Sarah-ie.

It’s still sometimes hard for me to believe Sarah is no longer living at home.  As much Steve and I miss her, though, we are so proud to watch her confidently walking into her future.

It’s good to get in front of the camera, no matter whether we are ready or not. Sarah looks fresh, healthy and happy. Seems like she has had a good fit with her school, hooray.

      Lesley,

Yeah, the getting in front of the camera thing is out of my comfort zone, but it’s got to be done! And yes, I believe Sarah has found a great fit at Regent; I’m especially thankful it’s as close as it is since she ran home for a short, last minute visit today.

Sarah’s campus is beautiful and the pictures capture that. It’s neat that you can see the phone and either you or Sarah’s hand’s shadow on your jacket in the selfie.

Beautiful photos as always! So nice you got to have an impromptu visit with Sarah.

I was JUST thinking about Sarah last night, I can’t believe she is in the middle of her junior year already, and that campus IS beautiful, just what you think about when you picture a college campus.

I think all parents always say “I just want my child to be happy.” hooray for the happiness center.

automatic navigation made me chuckle. years ago i use to drive kids to school. (I actually made more $ driving than teaching., but, that’s another story.) Several kids lived in one subdivision. I can’t tell you how many times, after I stopped carpooling, that my car’s Automatic Navigation would turn me into said subdivision!!!

What a beautiful campus and yes Sarah is walking confidently into her future all with the help of her amazing family. She does look incredibly happy. How does she like her new classes after switching her courses?

What a beautiful campus! And the pictures are lovely. Thank you for sharing them.
I’m glad you are able to ‘pop’ in every now and then to see Sarah!

So glad for the visit. It appears to be a beautiful campus. Pictures of Sarah are always welcomed. Lovely young lady as is her mother. ❤️?

Regent’s campus is really beautiful! How wonderful that your business took you right to Sarah! Isn’t it amazing how even a brief visit can just give you a fresh new outlook and make you feel so good? There were times when our kids were in college and living away from home that we just missed them so badly that we hopped in our car, drove the 105 miles, got our hugs and if time allowed, took them to lunch or supper and then came back home. It just made us whole again. That was such a hard transition to make but we got through it. NOW it’s missing those 4 sweet grandtreasures that gnaws on us. 😉 Fortunately, we get to see them often and talk to them on the phone as well. Pure joy. 🙂

      LeeAnne,

That’s funny–your kids wre 105 miles away and Sarah is 104 miles. And I agree. Traveling those miles every now and then is a small price to pay for parental happiness!

Lovely photos; what a cool looking school. Sarah looks so happy and confident, you must be truly proud!

      Jenna,

Thanks Jenna, for your kind words. I am so proud of her.

And I know you are proud of Samantha on her big birthday. Happy wishes to ALL of you!
