Grayson Oliver Smith said his first hello to his mom and dad on July 26 at 12:33 p.m. (Eight pounds, 2 ounces and 20 1/2 inches long.) Meagan made it to almost 39 weeks which we are grateful for, since her body had been trying to go into labor for the past two months.
I was working my other job at the daycare yesterday when I got a one-sentence message from Nathan.
Grayson is here!!!!
Sitting in a classroom full of sleeping one-year olds, I had the luxury of a few spare moments to shed some happy grandma tears. I cried tears of joy over my strong daughter-in-law, my supportive son, and that already beloved newborn.
What really warmed my heart is that the message was sent to Steve, Sarah and me just nine minutes after his birth, with several pictures following quickly after that.
Nathan and Meagan were so intentional about including us in the whole process even though we were so far away. They kept us in touch as they headed into the hospital at 8:30 a.m. and they sent us updates all along the way.
Last evening, Meagan posted the following on Facebook:
We are so in love. Grayson Oliver (means Wise Life), has changed our lives forever! The kids LOVE him and Nathan and I can’t get enough of his chunky little self. Thanks again for all the prayers today. We are blessed and thankful!
Here is the first photo of the little fella. I sort of get the feeling there may be one or two more to follow.
Welcome, Grayson Oliver. Grandma Smith loves you already.
Oh my goodness! What an adorable little baby! Congratulations on this sweet little addition to your family. Grayson Oliver is a wonderful name.
I just signed on to see if there was any baby news. What joy to read about Grayson’s arrival, that Meghan made it to almost 39 weeks and that Grayson was such a healthy weight. Congratulations to you and your sweet family!
Thank you, everyone, for your generous and kind rejoicings with our family over Grayson!
To save a little time, I am only responding to comments that had a specific question as I am trying to pack and also put together a post for tomorrow before we leave.
Happy day to you!
Congratulations to all! He is adorable. Nice size too.I remember my mom saying that going from 2 children to 3 was a huge adjustment. Much harder than going from 1 to 2. She said once you have 3, you might as well have 4. LOL. I assume you are heading down shortly? Does he look like either of the other 2 grandbabies as newborns? Very exciting times, indeed.
Lesley,
Headed out tomorrow morning!
As for his appearance, he is the first Smith in four generations to not have blonde hair at birth!
Congratulations! He is adorable
Even though he was a little early, he still weighed a good weight – and he is a tall baby. You are so precious Grayson. Congrats to the entire family. Grayson is a cute name. Do you know how they chose it?
Congratulations! He’s adorable!
Yay! Congratulations!
I’m so very happy for all of you! Grayson is absolutely precious!! Can’t wait for more pictures to follow.
Welcome Grayson Oliver! You are going to LOVE visiting Manteo, and your grandparents. Speaking of your grandparents… you chose exactly the right ones! It’s just that, well, in your photo you kinda look like Pastor Steve when he discovers that Sarah ate all the Oreos. I guess you don’t have to worry about. that for a while… although Oreos ground up in your formula might be a real treat! Love, <3
Happy day for you all! Ruth
Congrats ?
And what a nice name
Totally and completely overjoyed! 🙂 Congratulations to all the Smiths!
Love, Deb and the guys
Congratulations on Smith Grandchild #3! He is a cutie. One of my good friends from Tampa has a great nephew named Grayson. He gets called Gray a lot. Safe travels to Florida!

Wonderful news!! Congratulations! What a beautiful baby boy 🙂
Congratulations! Such a cute little guy!
Praises for Grayson and that he and Meagan are doing well. He is precious. Safe travels as you go to FL to meet him and visit with the rest of the family. When do you plan to go? So happy for all. Remember the joy of our two grandsons birth. We were on our way to IN for Jack’s birth but he arrived before we did and we were blessed to be at the hospital in Raleigh when Connor was born. God is good.
Ann,
Thanks for rejoicing with us. We leave for Florida tomorrow.
How special that you were able to be at the hospital when Connor was born. It’s fun to be part of all of that excitement!
Oh my gosh….Grayson is adorable!! CONGRATULATIONS to the entire Smith clan!!
I love his name too. 🙂 Safe travels to you as you go to meet this sweet boy!!
