Today, Sarah wore a blue hat to school.
Usually hats are not allowed there, but today the students could wear them if they donated $1 to the Red Cross.
Well, Sarah was all about that. She loves hats. And she loves the Red Cross.
And happily, she had just recently found a thrift store blouse to go with a hat she had gotten earlier in the year.
Voila. An outfit was born.
Can you believe she is going to be 18 in just four months? Nope. Me neither.
Sarah’s friend-since-she-was-four-years-old, Victoria, will also be 18 years in a couple of months. (And she is graduating from High School this year!)
A couple of months ago, the two girls finally got to spend some time together. (Since they live seven hours apart, it makes get-togethers complicated.)
A brief look back at the early days of their friendship . . .
How those two little teeny girls got to be such grown up ladies, I will never know.
But I am grateful.
Grateful for a friendship that has survived years.
Grateful for a daughter that has survived cancer.
Grateful that this daughter wears a blue hat and gives money to an organization that helped save her life.
Just grateful.
Pretty hat, Sarah! I love the idea of a hat day as a fundraiser for Red Cross!
Whitney,
Well, it was actually kind of funny because when she got to school that day, she found out the fundraiser was the NEXT day. So she had to take her hat off and wear a hat the next day instead. 🙂
18, It seems like it was just a year or so ago that I sent her an American Girl doll.
Is she graduating this year, Becky? For some reason, it did not register that she might be a senior already? I remember you saying she was looking at colleges, but I thought that was just an initial looky see; I did not think that she going to be making such decisions like college already.
Cath,
And she really loved that doll!
No, Sarah isn’t graduating this year because she had to repeat 2nd grade due to her treatment. HER big year will be 2014! I’m actually quite relieved we have another year to go–I’m not quite ready for that rite of passage. She does get a lot of college info and letters and is working on filling out the proper forms at school. It will be here before we know it!
I’m glad you and Steve get an extra year at home with her too, and that she gets it with you. Yes, it will be here before you know it.
She’s turned into a lovely young woman. I know you enjoy her as the gift she is to you.
Beautiful. Reminds me of the girls in the Vegas movies with that type hat.
Ann,
Now that you mention it, it really does!
A beautiful hat on a beautiful young lady. Not everyone looks good in hats. Sarah looks marvelous!
Anna,
Sarah is definitely an accomplished hat wearer!
Wow 18 already? How is that possible? Time flies… Well, she is growing into a wonderful, elegant, young woman, that’s for sure 🙂
Love the blue hat/outfit!
Renee,
Don’t ask me how that is possible because I have no clue! 🙂
What a beautiful hat! And a beautiful young woman too. It doesn’t seem possible that she can be almost 18.
Jessica,
Kids these days! They just seem to have a habit of getting older . . . and older! 🙂
Not everyone can wear that style of hat and pull it off with penache and charm! Sarah looks like the heroine in a best selling novel!!
Jojy,
Sarah’s actually been working on her own novel since she was ten! I think at some point in the story, it would be great if she bedecked her heroine in a blue hat.
Meant to say earlier how much I love Sarah’s haircut. So glad she doesn’t feel the need to have long hair like so many other girls. She looks so confident and beautiful.
Liz,
Yeah, Sarah pretty much marches to the beat of her own drummer when it comes to her hair. Although who knows? A year from now she may have grown it back out again. One thing for sure–she does like to change it up a lot.
I may have asked this before, but where did Sarah meet Victoria?
Kim,
When we were on the road full time, our home church was in Mooresville, NC. At first, we didn’t know a lot of people so when Steve and I wanted to go out together one night, we asked the pastor if he would recommend someone in his church that we could hire to babysit. That night, a woman named Crystal (who is now my good friend) and her little daughter, Victoria, walked into our R.V. for babysitting duty. And that was the beginning of the Sarah/Victoria friendship!
what a great blue hat! i’ve said it before…. Sarah should be a model!!!!!
I was the only one at my church who wore a “bonnet” on Easter. It used to be such fun to see the various hats.
cheers to friendship!… especially S&V’s.
Mrs. Pam,
I agree. I think that every once in a while, EVERYONE should pull out a hat! I’m proud of you for bucking the hatless trend and sporting one on Easter. I’m sure you looked charming! (too bad Sarah wasn’t there to join you.)
