A few days before we left on our trip to Wisconsin, Steve’s parents (from Charlotte) and his Aunt Yvonne (from California) arrived in Manteo.
They came for four reasons:
Of course, when anyone arrives in our fair town, we always like to take them on little jaunts and show them the loveliness of our little spot by the sea.
One evening we went downtown and strolled along the water front.
Partway through the stroll, Ken happened to pass a gentleman wearing an Air Force Retired cap so he had to stop and say hello. Steve gets his friendliness with strangers from his dad—they will both talk with anyone at any time. Quite a gift! (That’s Steve and Aunt Yvonne waiting off to the side.)
We also stopped to examine a fish windsock thingie. (I know, I know. We live rivetingly exciting lives.)
If you’ve never seen a fish windsock before, this is your big chance. Try not to waste it.
Thankfully, my Nikon was eventually presented with a much more lovely sight than a windsock–two sisters sitting on our porch swing. (Steve’s mom is on the right; his Aunt Yvonne on the left.)
There are few things better than getting to hang out with a sister.
On Friday night, we all attended a highly anticipated concert at our church by a U.S. Air Force band called “Rhythm in Blue.” The guys were fabulous and the music was spine tingling. (They told us after the concert we were the best audience they’d had in 10 years.)
At the end of the concert, the band played the theme songs from all the branches of the military and invited any veterans (and their families, if they wanted) to stand up when their branch was featured.
As soon as the Air Force song started, Sarah jumped to her feet with her grandpa.
She then discovered that her dad had not gotten up with her. . . .
. . . a situation which she quickly remedied.
We truly loved the simple pleasures the weekend offered–family, the USAF Band, and windsocks.
I love the pics of “The Sisters”! What laughter! And I, for possibly the only one, love the fish windsock!
Guerrina, I loved that photo too. Two sisters enjoying life and each other. And I thought that windsock was pretty cute! 🙂
Recently when I see beautiful pictures of your lovely Manteo I am reminded when Steve resigned from his last church, how things became kind of scary. Would Steve find the right fit soon? What about your house, etc. You and Steve kept your trust in God, and my goodness how wonderful it all turned out! God’s grace is so good! We are going through a test of our own right now, and I tell myself constantly that His eyes are on us and we have to trust that He is working for our highest good! We don’t know what His plans for us are, but we don’t have to, we just wake up each day and do the best we know how to do! Thanks for being an inspiration, and for sharing your story!
Holly, thanks for your encouragement. There are timer in life that are scary and challenging where we wonder if we will ever make it through. I think that all of us can be helped when we hear the stories of other people. Someday soon YOUR story will be an encouragement!(
