Saturday we attended Dare Day, an annual downtown festival with food, music, shopping, crafts, displays, old cars, etc. (The event is named after our county of Dare and the county is named after Virginia Dare, the first English child born in America. And that’s your history lesson for today.)
I took my camera along to capture the fun and ended up with a unique of shot of someone taking a picture of me while I took a picture of them!
Here’s me.
And here’s “them!” This is Jannie who attends our church with her family and has a photography/videography business with her husband.
No town event is complete without little dancing girls in matching outfits! (For some reason, no one ever asks ME to dance! Can’t figure that out.)
This lovely young lady was spotted watching the action.
In this particular case, the action meant watching her dad play bass.
That is one good lookin’ bass player!
There’s Jannie’s dad on drums.
I thought it might be nice to have a shot of him juxtaposed amid some lovely flowers!
Part of the listening crowd.
There were even a few dogs out and in attendance . . .
greeting each other in a dignified manner. Or should I say, “dognified . . .”
A couple of actors from the Lost Colony Outdoor Drama showed up to stroll with streets with us.
One of the more memorable experiences of the day was when Sarah and I tried deep-fried Oreos. I thought they would be sort of disgusting but they were actually quite wonderful. Of course, I gained ten pounds just by looking at the sign advertising said Oreos but I’m still glad we tried them.
Since I wasn’t able to get around and see everything, I am also posting a few photos that Jannie took.
One of the booths sold these gorgeous pens. Wouldn’t it be fun to write a grocery list with one of those babies?
A side street was roped off to make room for machines of all sorts.
It was a great day to be out and about with fellow Manteo-ers and enjoy perfect weather, fun activities, and the contentment of living in our little village by the sea!
This is graduation week!
Thanks to all of you who have been sending cards to Sarah; it makes it exciting to get the mail every day.
To celebrate graduation with us, we are being joined by my sister, brother-in-law, nephew and Mom (from Wisconsin) on Wednesday; Nathan, Meagan and Noah (from Florida) on Thursday; and Steve’s Mom and Dad (from Charlotte) on Friday. Graduation is Saturday morning and we’ll have a graduation party Saturday afternoon. (You’re ALL invited!)
Sunday, Sarah and another graduate will be honored in our morning service and my brother-in-law will speak. And then on Monday, everyone will start leaving Manteo in reverse order of the way they came . . .peeling off one by one and leaving us with happy, graduating memories.
Yesterday afternoon we attended Sarah’s baccalaureate service in the lovely Mt. Olivet Methodist church downtown.
Wonderful memories behind . . . new beginnings ahead.
Manteo always looks like such a beautiful place to live- and with events like the Dare Day it must be a lot of fun too! I am also so glad that Sarah is enjoying her card shower! It must be so neat to receive cards from all over the world. I also just want to check that the book i sent arrived? If not, i can look into the order with Amazon to ensure there is not a problem. Thanks!!
Jenna, yes, book arrived safely and Sarah was delighted! She wrote a thank you note last week which I’m still trying to get to the Post Office along with a thank you being sent to Australia. They should both go out today.
Such an exciting week coming up! I am so glad you are feeling well now and can enjoy all the festivities. I don’t think enough pictures can be taken at a time like this 🙂
Lesley,
My camera and I will definitely get a workout! I wonder how many calories taking pictures burns up? 🙂
You look beautiful in your “new” Chico’s top.
It looks like the downtown fair was great and a pretty sunny day too.
You are going to have such a fabulous time this week with all your family there to help Sara celebrate.
Judy,
Thanks for noticing that it was one of the tops I featured on the earlier blog. I wondered if anyone would make the connection. 🙂
I’m a long-time reader, though I rarely comment. I just wanted to tell Sarah “Congratulations!” I hope you all have a wonderful time with your family.
Karen,
Always wonderful to hear from a “rare commenter.” 🙂 Thanks for the happy wishes!
Sure hope you get put Noah’s toes in the sand at OBX! how I love sweet little toes in the sand!
Congratulation Sarah! …after everyone leave you might have to find a place in the sand to take a BIG NAP! ENJOY
CeCe,
I’m sure Noah would have a very large time playing in the sand. You know how boys love dirt! And yes, a few naps might very well be in my future.
What an exciting week of graduation celebrations. Get out the tissues! So glad Sarah is going to college close to home, however. It would be just a little too much for all of US (let alone you and Steve and Summer) if we had to “watch” our girl from afar! Have fun!
Mary,
How sweet of you to call her “our” girl. Love that!
Hey Becky,
Nice pics. Hope Sarah has a wonderful week! Would love to see y’all’s family!! That would be awesome!! Your invite still good?? Just wondering???
Catherine,
Of course the invite is still good! 🙂
So what times the party?
12:30 to 2:30 at the church Youth House.
I just love small town celebrations. What fun! Congratulations Sarah on your impending graduation!! Enjoy the experience and soak it all in. And enjoy all of the family that is coming to celebrate with you. Be sure to get lots and lots of snuggles with Sir Noah too! 🙂
LeeAnne,
Yep, me and Sir Noah are going to enjoy our snuggles! I’m sure he’ll look like a completely different baby than in December. He’s growing up so fast!
