Steve and I were in Greensboro, NC for three days this week for the bi-annual state meeting of our denomination. Since the first night was sort of dressy, I pulled out my dress that I got in New Mexico last year. I haven’t worn it a lot because it seems a bit “much” for regular use, but it’s fun when I have a chance to wear it.
The special occasion I wore it for was a banquet to honor the 46 years our Superintendent, Dr. Charles Kelly, has served our state. (He is retiring after twenty- three years as Secretary/Treasurer and twenty-three years as District Superintendent.)
He and his wife have been a part of my life for almost forty years; I met them when I was 17 and my dad was a minister with the North Carolina District. A few years later, I also became credentialed with this District.
I’ll never forget when the Kellys took time out of their very busy schedules to spend the entire long day with us when Sarah had her first cancer surgery. They have been the pastors to the pastors of North Carolina, along with having many other responsibilities.
It was wonderful to get to celebrate them.
.
Steve always enjoys himself hugely at these kinds of events. Since North Carolina is one of the states we traveled in during our 15 years on the road, we know a lot of pastors. It’s fun to get to reconnect.
I especially appreciated the fact that the organizers designed the colors of the event around my wardrobe.
You think I’m kidding?
(Of course, I had no clue the colors they were using; it was just funny to see them match up with my clothes so well.)
Happy to celebrate people we love.
Happy to celebrate with colors I love.
Hope you’re happily looking forward to a great weekend!
Color, color color. Hooray for color. glad you had a great time. Steve certainly looks to be in his element. Happy Memorial Day.
Lesley,
Love me some color! And yes, Steve was definitely in his element. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
You looked really pretty! It was fun to see some pictures from the meetings and it was pretty cool how your clothes matched the event. I remember the Kellys too–fun to see them. Love you!
Deb
Deb,
Yes, the Kellys have been in our lives (in one way or another) for a very long time. It was a joy to honor them. (And thanks for the sweet compliment.)
I really like happy colors and this dress is definitely happy. So pretty on you!
Have a wonderful weekend!
LeeAnne,
“Happy colors.” I like that description!
funny… you reminded me that my mother was big on having clothes
match/blend/co-ordinate with the colors of the room if we were entertaining.
Mrs. Pam,
I’ve never heard of having clothes match the room one is entertaining in but I DO make an effort to have my pajamas match my bedroom. Makes me feel more peaceful.
The dress is so pretty and looks great on you. So glad you had a chance to renew friendships and celebrate together. Have a wonderful weekend and stay safe.
Becky – didn’t you know they called Steve in advance to see what you would be wearing so all would match! Glad you had a great time
Becky,
Ha. I KNEW there had to be a reason!
Ann,
It was a really nice time, getting to hang out with people we rarely get to see. Happiest day to you and Jim!
