Christmas Trees. Intimidated Doggies. A Peaceful Tableau.

December 16, 2013

You will be happy to know that The Procrastinating Smith Family finally got our tree up late last week.  Even though we’ve only managed to get three presents under the tree so far (thanks, Jim and Ann!) we are least making progress in the right direction.

Summer wasn’t sure what to think about the addition of a Large Shiny Green Monster to our living room but she managed to be brave and hold her ground in the face of the encroaching threat.

I mean, really. When you are a teeny, weeny dog and you suddenly see something this large looming over you, it can be a wee bit intimidating.

Summer even got so intimidated she sought assistance from on high.  “Hello? I could use some help down here. It’s a very large monster and I’m a very small dog.”

Fortunately for Summer,  the large, shiny green monster didn’t look quite as intimidating from other angles.

In fact, if Summer squinted her eyes just right, it even looked sort of friendly!  It looked like it might just eventually shelter some wrapped dog treats beneath its branches.

Summer did not write a letter to Santa Clause this year but she is hoping that he will somehow just “know” that dog treats are a very good thing to give a small, intimidated-by-a-green-monster doggy,

And then as if the large tree weren’t scary enough for the Wee Lady of the House, some other creatures took up residence on the table behind the sofa.

Note: The ceramic nativity set was given to us this year by a church member whose mom made it back in the 60’s.

So. The tree is up and the nativity set is in place. Since I’ve never been one of those amazing women who turns the entire house into a Christmas wonderland, I just added an extra candle or two to the tree/nativity display and figure I’m good to go.  Simple is my mantra!

And lastly . . .

here a few photos I took the week before Christmas. Although I’m not an accomplished photographer as far as knowing a lot of technical stuff.I do read a good bit of instructional material in an effort to continue to improve my skills.

And occasionally, that reading pays off!  I think that on these particular photos I managed to find just the right combination of focus and exposure and lighting to make them  especially lovely.  All of the elements are interesting in themselves and when they come together to make a whole, they form quite the peaceful tableau.

Enjoy!

Merriest Christmas to You All. And I just want to say a very big thank you, to you, for sharing all that you do with us here on the net. Reading your thoughts and enjoying your photos is such a bright warm spot in my life. I just wanted you to know.

Summer… you are too cute! btw, I saw only three stockings… does that mean you better get busy and write that letter to Santa?

      Mrs. Pam,

Summer said to tell you that her pitiful lack of opposing thumbs make it rather impossible for her to write any letters–to Santa, or anyone else! She said you are welcome to feel sorry for her, if you’d like. 🙂

    Ruth,

Dogs are so funny, aren’t they? It’s funny to see their reactions to various things that come and go in their lives–never a dull moment when you have animals in the house! I think it’s funny for a dog to be afraid of a snowman. 🙂

very pretty Bec. Our dog Cider, was scared of a short little snowman Levi made a week ago. She went out on the deck and started barking at it like crazy. Would not go any closer by herself. I think she truly thought it was an intruder of a human sort, but not sure… (there was a “Packer’s” hat on it; so it may be slightly human.) Since we are not fans of the “foot- sort of game,” I do not know where Levi got it. Anyway, I can see how the dog would be scared of a huge new thing in the house, I am sure our Cider will do the same with us. The pics are pretty as always, thanks for your sharing beauty with us all in so many ways. Ruth
