We don’t have any medical news to speak of but would sure love to hear something at some point today.
The only thing we do know is that we have an appointment Wednesday afternoon to meet with Dr. Blazer, a surgical oncologist at Duke. We don’t know when the surgery will be scheduled; hopefully, that is one of the things we will find out soon since we sort of have an important event happening soon.
Do you know what really made my day?
Getting this message and photo from Meagan:
We may not all be biological but we are the four children of your heart! Thankful to have you in our lives and to call you mom.
The two sisters.
Love this girl!
The six of us had such a great weekend together. The laughter was especially sweet in light of the circumstances we find ourselves in. It’s almost like we were filling our tanks in preparation for what’s ahead.
They hung out in the garage for a while Meagan and I were inside discussing innumerable wedding details.
Then when the wedding talk took a break, Meagan went out and joined the guys because she loves learning about tools. Steve had her drill a bunch of holes in a piece of metal which she got a big kick out of.
Nathan used one of the mysterious tools Steve has to cut a shape out of a piece of wood. We are easily entertained.
The fellas went out to fly RC planes and also the two younger guys played some disk golf. (Steve was wearing his Sunday shorts.)
we had yet another hospital visit.
Fortunately, this one was planned. Steve has been waiting for eight weeks to get meet with a pain management specialist and get a shot in his hip and Saturday was the day.
We actually entered the hospital through the Emergency Room door and I couldn’t help but think that was my third time there in a week. I’d be okay with not going back there for a very long time.
at the end of the service, Steve asked everyone to turn and greet someone around them. Sarah and Nathan happened to be standing together and started doing a “goofy greeting.” (Sarah had been wearing a mask but took it off to “greet” her brother.)
The pretend scowls turned into overly dramatic smiles. Love seeing the two of them together.
Gage’s mom, Casey, made them for Sarah and Gage as an engagement gift. I can’t even imagine knowing how to do something like that. It’s easy to see where Gage got his creative giftings from.
we were finishing eating some pizza that a sweet lady from our church brought. Sarah and Gage were talking about the songs they were considering for their first dance at the wedding. When they started playing one of the songs, they both suddenly got up, walked into the kitchen, and began to dance.
I got teary-eyed watching them, thinking of Sarah dancing with her new husband in her wedding dress.
We don’t know what the journey will look like on the road from here to there . . . but we know love will be waiting at the other end.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVED Meagan’s quote about the four children of your heart!! The mugs Gage’s mom made are stunning. And what fun pictures of Sarah & Gage dancing in your kitchen. Treasured moments for sure.
Becky, You probably know that your photos are always the icing on your “blog cake” for me. This time, your photos made it clear that your family reunion was far more wonderful than anything I could have imagined! It made me so happy to see the happiness in your faces during this very special time together. You are always in our thoughts and prayers. Love, Fred & Lucy
I forgot to say how much I loved the mugs Gage’s mom made–so pretty!
I have a thing for coffee mugs cause I’ve always thought that having a pretty mug to drink out of makes the coffee better! 🥳
Deb (again)
Deb,
Yes, we were all immediately covetous of the mugs as soon as we saw them!
Thank you for the update! I know so many of Smith family fans have been praying for you. What a sweet gift from God for you 6 to have this weekend together. I rejoice with you.
Continuing to pray to our Heavenly Father who loves you all so very much. More than we can comprehend.
Glad you were able to have a good weekend in the midst of all that’s going on. Hopefully the shot Steve received will help his hip pain. The mugs Gage’s mother made are nice!
Praying that Sarah’s visit Wednesday will reveal plans for future treatment, including a surgery date.
Glad you had such a great weekend! I have two comments:
1) glad to see dancing in your side of the family
2) please someone get Steve a new RC hat!
Andrea,
Well, the Kieblers can’t have all the dancing fun!
And yes, Steve’s is hat is, shall we say, quite distinctive. 🙂
Your pictures are always so touching, the ones of Sarah and Gage dancing are breath taking. 💞
Oh dear, your posts keep making me cry.
I loved, loved and also loved seeing all your kids together and the joy that ensued. After last week, as you said, the joy is especially sweet. Rejuvenating to the soul.
Love you guys so much! 😘
Deb
Sara is just glowing in these pictures. Seems like a great weekend was had by all. Fingers crossed for surgery to be scheduled soon.
I’m so glad to see these pictures and hear that you all had a nice weekend together. Continuing to pray for Sarah and all of you as you wait for test results and next steps.
I’m so glad y’all had such a fun weekend! I know the laughter was balm for the weary soul. I hope those memories will carry you into whatever comes next and into wedding time. Can’t wait for all of the wedding updates like after Nathan got married.
I was eagerly awaiting an update from all the fun the 6 of you guys had together!! And even though it wasn’t a medical update, the photo update was so refreshing, especially the dance photos!
Loved seeing smiles all around! Hoping for a good week ahead!
Sarah and Gage seem so perfect together. I got all teary eyed reading the post. Thankful Nathan and Meagan were there for the weekend.
Continuing to pray for good results from the tests. Excited about wedding plans and seeing pics as well.
Hang in there Smiths!
Love, Buff
What a welcome breath of fresh air this weekend was for you all… I teared up seeing them “practice” their first — I did the same thing when our daughter practiced with her Dad for their dance…. And then of course all the real firsts — theirs, Dad, the toasts… my momma heart was full of joy…. and happy tears. <3
You are in for such a special time… as a momma and family.
Sounds like a relaxing and fun weekend! Those mugs are so beautiful! 🥰
not only at the end, but LOVE is in the middle and the beginning ….
Beautiful pictures of a love and laughter filled weekend! So thankful for the beauty in the storm! Praying for answers and plans ASAP!
So happy to hear that you all had a wonderful weekend. Praying that you get results and plans soon.
Megan is so right. My son is adopted and I love and cherish him with the exact same unconditional, overwhelming, euphoric ferocity as any other mother. The children of our hearts and souls can be every much as beloved as the children of our bodies! You are so blessed to have 2 incredible sets of both. Yay for love.
Ellen,
Such perfect words to describe motherhood: Unconditional, overwhelming, euphoric ferocity.
Wonderful weekend! Love the pics of all of you, but definitely the last of Sarah & Gage dancing made my eyes water! Prayers for results and plans.
Sarah looks amazing to have felt so bad just a few days ago! I’m so thankful it was a good weekend. Continuing to pray!
Praying you hear some results today. All my children fill my heart too, Meagan is so right. How wonderful Nathan and Meagan were home for the weekend. Nothing beats the love of family.
I’m so thrilled to read that y’all had such a wonderful weekend! Praying for your journey!
Awwww….seeing you all together makes my heart so happy and my eyes so drippy. Praying over the impending news…
That last picture…..so beautiful. It looks like you all had a wonderful refueling weekend, including Steve who needs that hip to settle down if he’s going to dance it up at his daughter’s wedding! High hopes for information and a plan this week.
