Answer to the Doggie Doodads. An Approaching Opening Night.

March 27, 2015

And the answer is:

The Doggie Doodads (mentioned in this post) are knife rests! Who knew?

We had plenty of entertaining guesses and a few of you even knew right off the bat. May I just say that I am highly impressed by anyone who can spot a knife rest at twenty paces.

And as for the results of my Highly Official Monthly Clothing Expenditure Poll?

$25 or less   57%   95 votes
$25 to $50   18%   30 votes
$50 to $75   11%   19 votes
$75 to $100   4%     7 votes

To me it’s just interesting to see how spending habits compare.

And as for the rest of the blog post today?

You know that I usually write about what whatever it is that I’m doing, thinking, and/or feeling at any given chapter in my life. This week, I am doing, thinking AND feeling a lot of stuff having to do with our Easter production which starts the first of three performances tomorrow night. And so it only goes to follow that that’s what the rest of this post will be about.

Our church only runs about 110 people on Sunday morning so to put on an original drama with a cast of 45, complete with sets and costumes?  Well, I’m pretty proud of what we’ve accomplished at this little ol’ church!  We are thankful that one church in Manteo loaned us about a dozen actors and another church loaned us a whole bunch of costumes, as well as provided the guest vocalist for the evening.  How great is it when churches work together?

Here are a few pictures from rehearsals this week.  Some of them feature Steve and Sarah but others I included just because I liked them.

I wanted to show you this picture because Steve came up with the concept of this jail cell and built a lot of it. He is truly a multi- talented fella.

Alrighty then!  I’m off to do some more prep work for our last dress rehearsal tonight.  Have a happy weekend.

The images of Jesus coming out of the tomb gave me goosebumps! Thanks for this visual reminder of why this week is so special. Break a leg to you and the cast. I know it will be amazing!

    • Becky says:

      Courtney,

Thanks for your encouragement. If I thought it was wonderful watching Him come out of the tomb in rehearsal, it was even more amazing in a full house with the audience totally caught up in it. What a great experience it’s been!

  2. Ann Martin says:

I pray we will have 110 people again attending our church. We average 50-70. One time Jim and I are going to try to make it to a drama. Just seems the timing is never right for us. I know it will be wonderful. May God’s kingdom grow because of the presentations.

  3. Phyllis Lines says:

The Easter performance looks great. The Baptist church I went to in Springfield, MO did one but with a much larger congregation. The church I belong to here in Overland Park, Kansas has a Tenebrae Good Friday service – this will be the first year I’ve been to it so I’m looking forward to it.

  4. Mrs. Pam says:

looks like the firefighters and police will definitely benefit from your glorious production.

  5. Linda in Pgh says:

Love the photos, it must be awesome to witness live and in person! Your productions always amaze me! Such professionalism and creativity! I will have to add seeing one in person to my bucket list! Sending all good thoughts and prayers your way.

      Linda,

Thanks for your encouraging words. Our first performance last night went GREAT. I am leaving in just a moment for the second performance. So excited about it!

  6. Kristina says:

    Hi Becky!

Regardless of congregation size, I’m always impressed by your pictures/stories of the productions your church puts together. Between the sets, lighting, rehearsals and plot-lines they seem incredibly professional to me! Much more so than the standard ‘dress the kids up and reenact the scene straight out of the Bible’ that I am used to.

    • Becky says:

      Kristina,

One of the things that we are passionate about is excellence in the arts. And we just happen to be blessed with a staff member who writes and directs, a fabulous choreographer, a lighting/set designer (Steve) media/ graphics person (me) and lots of good music and actors. Every year we add a little more and try to improve on what we did the year before; it’s such a cool thing to be part of.

  7. Lesley says:

you only have 110 people in your congregation? i don’t know why i thought there were so much more lol. Love the pictures and the lighting and the little girl’s sleeves in front of her eyes. it all looks so professional, which I lived closer. Good luck tomorrow night!

    • Kristina says:

110 people seems like lot to me! The church I went to as a kid had a very small congregation, so when Becky said ‘only 110’ I thought “Only?! I’m pretty sure that’s about 5 times the average for my hometown!”

    • Becky says:

      Lesley,

Yes, we have got some darling little girls in this production. We’ve got kids who are four years old and adults in their 70’s. I love that they can all find a part to play.

  8. Wendy says:

I wish I lived close enough to come and see one of the performances. In past years we have had a couple different churches do the Easter Play, Makes me have chills, tears and smiles. I am so thankful God sent His Son Jesus to save us!

    • Becky says:

      Wendy,

Seeing all those different Easter plays really is a treat, isn’t it? I love seeing the creativity and the heart that is invested.

  9. beckylp says:

amazing job! how many folks will come out to see it- I assume you welcome any and all

  10. Lizz says:

I wish I could be there to see the final product!

  11. Dale Tousley says:

That looks amazing!!! Almost like a Broadway production…..good luck!!

    • Becky says:

      Dale,

Thanks for the compliment. 🙂 I’m glad it looks professional but very glad we will never have to deal with the pressure of Broadway. So much more enjoyable to do our productions in our own small town.

  12. Jan Reuther says:

Beautiful pictures! Lots of creativity in creating the settings, and it looks like a lot of energy used in the dancing and acting. I’m sure it will be another big hit with the audience.

    • Becky says:

      Jan,

“Energy” describes the production very well. I’m not even acting or dancing in it and I’m still exhausted at the end, watching the energy and passion the performers put into what they do. Amazing.

  13. LeeAnne says:

The Easter production looks amazing! Happy Friday and happy weekend to you too!
