A Shower on Sesame Street

November 9, 2018

A few updates . . .

Yesterday marks five weeks since I started incorporating a new way of eating into my life.  It’s hard to believe I have actually managed to maintain this long because it hasn’t been easy! I will write more about that journey along with some recipes successes and recipe failures in a future post.

Grayson is making good progress.  Meagan said that the meds are working great, he’s eating good and keeping it down.  I hope to share pictures of a much pudgier little fella very soon.

Steve is making a steady recovery; he’s feeling almost normal except that his stamina is not what it was before he got sick. We are SO thankful he only had a mild case of shingles; can’t imagine one that was more serious!

Every once in a while . . .

I like to share photos from events that I attend, whether it be a cookout, a party, a shower, a wedding, etc.  I figure a lot of my readers are like me in that we love to take peeks into what other people are doing in the area of creative decorating and event planning.

Today’s post features a Sesame Street baby shower for a couple who attends our church.   The dad is a Manteo police officer; Steve (as the police chaplain) has gone on some ride alongs with him.

I  got their baby this onesie.

Enjoy the photos!

This cake was made by the granddaughter of one of our members.

What about you? What was your favorite kid’s show growing up?  Sesame Street or something else?

I always thought the Muppets were funny; especially the two grumpy guys.

Hooray to the recovery of both Smiths! Very clever shower decorations and edibles. I have zero creativity, so much admiration coming from this follower.
As for my favorite kid shows -Bozo, Captain Kangaroo, Gumby and Romper Room come to mind. I also LOVED the Cinderella movie with Lesley Ann Warren (1965). Her name was spelled like mine(rare) and I thought she was so beautiful 🙂

    • Becky says:

      Lesley,

Since you are the only Lesley I know, I just assumed all female Lesleys spelled their names the way you do. I have now learned that it is an unusual spelling; a new tidbit to add to my tidbit file. 🙂

Lesley Ann Warren was a new name for me so I looked her up so that I could see who played Cinderella in 1965. Lots of things to learn from my readers!

Pokemon was my favorite show as a child and I am still a fan 🙂

    Glad you are feeling better

    • Becky says:

      Katrina,

From all the Smiths who are feeling better–thank you!

It’s nice to still like a show that you liked as a child. That means it has staying power.

Three cheers that Baby Smith and Grandpa Smith are both on the mend!

Now I could be wrong, but that looks like a Muppet Show shower to me. Sesame Street has Big Bird, Bert and Ernie, Oscar the Grouch and Cookie Monster. I think those are Muppets!

So proud of you for sticking to the new way of eating! Looking forward to hearing more about it!

    Love, Deb

    • Becky says:

      Deb,

I have absolutely no clue which character goes with which show although I think you may be right and the shower may have actually been a Sesame Street mishmash, with other characters coming to pay a visit. This not an area of my expertise so I will have to accede to the broader experience of others 🙂

I’m so glad Grayson is doing better! And I was just thinking about your new way of eating and hoping it was going well.

The Sesame Street shower looks like so much fun. I’m always in awe of people who are creative like that. When I was little my favourite show was called Mr Dressup. It was really popular in Canada but I’m not sure if it ran in the States? It was sort of like Mr Rogers except Mr Dressup had two puppets (Casey and Finnigan) and he did a lot of crafts and imaginative play and dressing up in costumes. Years later when I got a parrot I named him Finnigan.

    • Becky says:

      Jenna,

Nope, haven’t heard of Mr. Dressup so it must have been Canadian only. But if it influenced you enough to inspire you to name a parrot Finnigan, it must have been a very great show, indeed! 🙂

Praise the Lord those two guys are doing much better. What a fantastic idea for a baby shower and that shirt was just precious. Hmmm, well, since I am the age I am, we didn’t get a t.v. until I was about 14. My favorite radio shows was The Shadow and the Creaking Door, not exactly young folks radio shows are they. But later on did enjoy the Mickey Mouse Club – Darlene, not Annette was my favorite – she had such a beautiful singing voice. My kids enjoyed Sesame Street and in the Minneapolis area it was Roundhouse Rodney and Casey Jones. Oh, and we can’t forget Captain Kangaroo can we.

    • Becky says:

      Sharyn,

It’s interesting to hear all the names of the old shows that have been cropping up; some I recognize and some I don’t! Captain Kangaroo rings a bell but I can’t remember what he did or what made his show what it was. And I’ve always heard of Annette mentioned in conjunction with the Mickey Mouse Club so it’s fun to hear that you liked another singer better.

Those were the days of happy television!

So glad to hear Steve and Grayson are starting to feel better and that you’re making strides in your dietary changes. That is such a big change to make for you, and the family; I applaud your efforts in sticking with it. The shower is lovely!

  7. Phyllis says:

Glad to hear that Grayson is eating better and keeping it down. Also glad that Steve is recovering.
That cake is beautiful. I am not creative at all when it comes to decorating.
Sesame Street was probably after my time but I did like Romper Room – I actually was on it once. My grandparents took me near my birthday so I had a paper crown. I also liked Captain Kangaroo.

  8. Ruth Rehberg says:

So glad the two guys in the Smith family are doing much better, thank you Lord! Ruth

  9. Labrensz says:

First of, I’m glad to hear that Steve and Grayson are feeling better. Praise the Lord!
Second, that cake looks wonderful. I’m not sure I could cut in to it, it looks too perfect! What a fun theme for a shower and great food ideas!
I loved Mr. Roger’s when I was little. I would still watch the repeats, but I haven’t seen it on lately. I also enjoyed Muppet Babies. My 3 year old likes Peppa Pig and Paw Patrol. To me, Peppa is annoying, but he likes it.
I hope you have a blessed week!

    • Becky says:

      Krista,

I had never heard of Paw Patrol until I went to a kid’s birthday party and there was Paw Patrol stuff everywhere!

Isn’t it funny how our kids get so attached to shows that we don’t care for? Thankfully, they go through stages and that particular annoying show won’t last forever!

  10. LeeAnne says:

That is such a very creative, attractive and fun looking shower table! I love the snack names and all the bright colors. 🙂

When I was 4 and 5, I remember watching Captain Kangaroo a lot as well as Romper Room. I didn’t get much into Sesame Street. However, I really did love those Saturday morning cartoons….The Roadrunner and Tom & Jerry were my favorites. My dad would watch them with us and he would laugh SO hard! We always looked forward to those two because we knew he would get up and watch with us!
Yay for a healing up family!! I am looking forward to chunky baby pictures of Grayson, although he already quite adorable and I love the ones you have already posted. (Except for hospital pics….booo hooo)

    Have a great weekend!

    • Becky says:

      Lee Anne,

      Steve loves the Roadrunner, too!

I love that you have such a happy memory of your dad getting up on Saturday mornings to watch cartoons with you. Sometimes it is those smallest things in life that are carried through life as an extra special memory.

  11. Ann Martin says:

Your church people have the neatest ideas! Beautiful and so colorful. So glad the family is making progress. Looking forward to the recipes for healthy eating. I always liked the Mickey Mouse Club and Mighty Mouse cartoon as well as Sky King and Roy Rogers. Have a great weekend.

    • Becky says:

      Ann,

Sky King is a new one for me; I had to look it up! It looks like something Steve would enjoy since it features a pilot.

Thanks for the lovely Thanksgiving card; you are always so thoughtful!
