Last Thursday, I posted that we were commemorating Sarah’s tenth anniversary of surviving Stage IV Neuroblastoma.
Since we wanted our church family to be able to participate in our celebration , I started working on a short video of her story to play in Sunday morning’s service. As the days went by though, it occurred to me that since the story is Sarah’s, and since she loves doing video editing, I should ask her if she wanted to put the video together instead.
She did. And here it is.

Sarah Smith. Ten Year Cancer Survivor
And may I just add that at the end of the video there was an abundance of nose blowing and eye wiping going on, followed by a standing ovation for a brave and precious warrior who stood at the front of the church with her dad’s arm around her.
So thankful. So blessed.
So beautiful. So wonderful. <3
Yes, indeed, on BOTH counts!
Another year to celebrate what God can be for all of us! Praise and more praise for this post. Thanks, Sarah. Just this week, the little birds in “your nest” living on our porch have flown into their new world….soething symbolic about that timing I think! Blessings always, Lingles, Pa
Betty, always so good to hear from you!
Yes, our little bird is slowly getting further and further from the nest. I think I may be compelled to have a little screen built around the nest and keep that birdie of mine at home!
You know well my story about my Sarah…and i continue to celebrate this amazing cancer survivor who lives at your house. You know I think Sarah may have the record for Stage IV NB. When my Sarah went home to be with Jesus, I think the longest was about 5 years from diagnosis. I am so grateful for Sarah’s life. Blessing to you all!
Lisa,
Nice to see your name “pop up” here.
I don’t know what the longest survivor record is but I know that people who make it past 5 years are quite rare. Sarah has it in her heart to live her life well for all the cancer survivors who didn’t make it–including your own sweet Sarah.
OK, oftentimes I want to make a comment, but don’t (for lazy reasons, I guess). But … that video was simply beautiful on many levels. A beautiful young lady, a beautiful family, and the beautiful mercy of God. Praise God that Sarah is doing well!
Karen,
Thank you, Karen. You and your church have been so sweet to follow our story and pray for us through these past ten years of ups and downs. Of course, having Sarah’s grandparents in your church might have something to do with that special heart connection you have!
Beautiful.
Gale, thank you.
I should have known better than to watch this at work. I’m furiously wiping the tears away at my desk. I’ve been a follower for years but seeing that video brings it all home. Thank goodness for Sarah the survivor 🙂
Paige,
That’s one of the reasons I love being photographer so much. I can write a hundred paragraphs about something but a picture truly grabs the heart. (Hope you had some Kleenex at your desk!)
Awesome Job Sarah, as per usual. 🙂 What a blessing it has been to witness you on so many levels of your journey. This video is yet another beautiful, poignant expression of your artistic beauty. I am so proud of the young lady that you have become. I can only imagine the love that your mom has in her heart when she looks at this video……cause goodness knows my heart just about burst when seeing what a miracle your life is.
Dianna,
I just watched the video again a couple minutes ago and got teary-eyed all over again. You would think that after awhile the tears would stop but I guess mama tears never end.
Beautiful video & music. Grabbing tissues.
Guerrina, thanks. I especially love that song. How beautifully it sums up our stories and the stories of all who go through hard times.
BEAUTIFUL!!!! Love the song with it. Thanks for happiness during a really difficult week for me. God bless you, Smith Family, and thanks for allowing us to share with you.
Ann,
Thanks for sharing so much of our lives with us!
What a beautiful video of a true survivor. Bless you Sarah.
Fran from Pa.
Thank you, Fran.
And may I just say I miss our visits to your beautiful state!
Such a wonderful video. Such a wonderful occasion. Such a wonderful young woman. Such a wonderful family. Such a wonderful LIFE. Thank you, Jesus.
Sue,
You are thankful for us? I am more than thankful for YOU. Blessings to you today.
Tears in my eyes. What a blessing and miracle Sarah is 🙂
Thanks, Trine, for rejoicing with us and for following her story through so many years.

Lesley,
Sarah did do a good job, especially since I didn’t think about turning the project over to her until about 7 pm Saturday!
Very moving. I am so thankful for the miracle God has done in Sarah’s life!
Jenna,
So thankful with you for the miracle of Sarah.
What a wonderful video, Sarah did a wonderful job! What a blessing to see her doing so well and excelling while remaining cancer free.
Cindy from Sonoma
Cindy,
She had such a good time making that video; I’m so glad I thought about it since it gave her a chance to tell her own story.
So exceptionally beautiful and, I, as your Church family, are wiping tears, smiling and praising God for “our” survivor. Such an anniversary….not one to necessarily celebrate but to embrace and rejoice at the greatness of God and his gifts. Sorry I missed it but you are all always in my heart.
Mary,
Love the line where you said you were part of our church family. That made me smile and nod in agreement.
