Once upon a time, there was a boy named George, and a girl named Hazel.
They fell in love and got married.
After a few years passed, George and Hazel picked up some additional names, namely, Mom and Dad.
And when George and Hazel started being called Mom and Dad, well, just like that, George’s parents started being called Grandma and Grandpa Smith. (Amazing how that works!)
After a few more years had passed, Ken (one of George and Hazel’s children), grew up and fell in love with a girl named Vernie.
They got married and after a few years, Ken and Vernie picked up some additional names, namely, Mom and Dad.
And when Ken and Vernie started being called Mom and Dad, well, just like that, George and Hazel started being called Grandma and Grandpa Smith.
After a few more years went by, Steve (one of Ken and Vernie’s sons), met Becky and they fell in love.
They got married and after a little while, Steve and Becky picked up some additional names, namely, Mom and Dad.
And as soon as Steve and Becky started being called Mom and Dad, well, just like that, Ken and Vernie started being called Grandma and Grandpa Smith.
A few more years went by.
And then, Nathan (one of Steve and Becky’s children), met a girl named Meagan. Nathan and Meagan fell in love and got married.
One year and seven months after that wedding date, Nathan and Meagan got the news that they will soon be picking up some additional names, namely, Mom and Dad. (Which will instantly turn Steve and me into the newest Grandma and Grandpa Smith!)
Yes. You read all that right. My (previously) baby boy and his (always) fabulous wife are pregnant! They will be making us grandparents sometime in the late fall!
I’m so very, very happy . . . for them, for us, and for all the Grandma and Grandpa Smiths up and down the line.
Our love and congratulations to the happy, wacky, funny, loving parents-to-be!
P.S. If you would like to read “the other grandma’s” blog post about this great announcement, head on over to Sheri’s blog where she is also writing about it. In fact, we worked out a special plan for BOTH of us to post about it at 7 am today so that the announcement was made simultaneously!
P.S. S. If you are reading this and attend our church, please keep this news a secret until next Sunday when we announce it publicly. We were going to announce it yesterday, but I was home sick. Thanks!
Congratulations!!! That’s such happy news! Being a grandparent is WONDERFUL!!!!
Gayle, thanks! It will be a happy adventure, I’m sure of that!

Becky, What a wonderful post, but I must admit, I had seen the post on Megan’s facebook page, so I knew where this was going. but let me just assure you that this will be the best job you will ever have. I have four, a fifteen year old, two eleven year olds and a six year old who wants to change her name to Princess (her name is Sara). It is joy unspeakable and full of glory. Congratulations to all!!!
Gail,
You are quadrupally blessed with four grand kids of your own! (And I think she you should let Sara change her name.) 🙂

Welcome to Grammahood Becky! I LOVE being a gramma…and you will be a great one!!
Jojy,
Looking forward to those days of gramma-ing.
I am happy for all of you. Here, up north, I’ll probably be the age of your mother before I become a grandmother, and my mother is pushing 90. It’s amazing that you will have a whole extra generation in there.
I’m looking forward to having my baby fix from you and your blog, becky.
Cath,
Believe me, I’ll be more than happy to share plenty of stories and pix for your baby fix!
Congratulations! I figured it out and couldn’t wait to get to the announcement in the story! How exciting for you all and what new adventures lie ahead!

Congratulations! I love my children, oh but those grandchildren are even extra special 🙂 I think because we take the time to really enjoy them instead of rushing around like crazy with our own children. So excited for you all, and for Sarah to be Auntie!
Wendy,
What you said is true– I think we will be MUCH more relaxed with the grand baby. I’m putting on my spoilin’ shoes!

Frapper,
Yep. With this news, we all get handed new roles. I guess Summer will be Aunt Summer!

You are going to just LOVE being grandparents! My best name for this time in my life I have. And Sarah is going to love being an aunt. Congratulations to all
Becky,
I can’t wait to hear that little one call Sarah, “Aunt Sarah” for the first time. She will make an incredible auntie!
Best news I have seen in a while!! Congratulations to ALL of the Smiths!! Sarah will be an awesome aunt, you guys will be awesome grandparents, and Nathan and Meagan will be awesome parents! My first baby, Abby (who is now 14) was a surprise baby… they are the best surprises and I can’t imagine life without her… sure, there were times when there was uncertainty, but undoubtedly, way more times that we felt blessed beyond measure! God knows what he is doing when it comes to surprises!! 🙂
Tiffany,
Well, surprises are really good, aren’t they? Some of the best things in life come in the wrappings of a surprise.

Congratulations! What exciting news for all of you…and doesn’t everyone from your church read your blog 🙂 And if not, why not 🙂
Nicole,
Actually I think only 4 or 5 people from the church read the blog since I haven’t really had a reason to announce to everyone that I even have a blog. 🙂
it didn’t take too long for me to figure out what the end of this story would be.
How wonderful, lovely, and exciting for all those forth-coming name changes, and most especially for the blessed little who will be causing them.
Mrs. Pam,
The last time I was this excited about changing my name was when I married Steve!
Oh Happy Day!! Love from FL to the newest Grandparents Smith! (Thanks for the great pictures. They never grow old and always bring a smile!)
Sheri,
I have decided to sleep on Nathan and Meagan’s couch for the first six months after the baby comes. You don’t think they would mind, do you?

Hi Jodi,
I do read mom’s blog 🙂 I’m feeling pretty good I’m just really tired. The Lord has really blessed me in this first trimester because I haven’t had any morning sickness . I am waiting for that second wind that everyone is telling me will come in another month or two:) I’ll keep giving mom updates as we go along so you can find out more from her. Thanks for asking. Prayers are appreciated!
