A Rather Repetitive (Yet Fairly Fascinating) Story

March 3, 2013

Once upon a time, there was a boy named George, and a girl named Hazel.

They fell in love and got married.

After a few years passed, George and Hazel picked up some additional names, namely, Mom and Dad.

And when George and Hazel started being called Mom and Dad, well, just like that, George’s parents started being called Grandma and Grandpa Smith.  (Amazing how that works!)

After a few more years had passed, Ken (one of George and Hazel’s children), grew up and fell in love with a girl named Vernie.

They got married and after a few years, Ken and Vernie picked up some additional names, namely, Mom and Dad.

And when Ken and Vernie started being called Mom and Dad, well, just like that, George and Hazel started being called Grandma and Grandpa Smith.

After a few more years went by, Steve (one of Ken and Vernie’s sons), met Becky and they fell in love.

They got married and after a little while, Steve and Becky picked up some additional names, namely, Mom and Dad.

And as soon as Steve and Becky started being called Mom and Dad, well, just like that, Ken and Vernie started being called Grandma and Grandpa Smith.

A few more years went by.

And then, Nathan (one of Steve and Becky’s children), met a girl named Meagan. Nathan and Meagan fell in love and got married.

One year and seven months after that wedding date, Nathan and Meagan got the news that they will soon be picking up some additional names, namely, Mom and Dad. (Which will instantly turn Steve and me into the newest Grandma and Grandpa Smith!)

Yes. You read all that right.  My (previously) baby boy and his (always) fabulous wife are pregnant! They will be making us grandparents sometime in the late fall!

Shall I pause for some hoorays and hallelujahs?

I’m so very, very happy  . . .  for them, for us, and for all the Grandma and Grandpa Smiths up and down the line.

Our love and congratulations to the happy, wacky, funny, loving parents-to-be!

P.S.  If you would like to read “the other grandma’s” blog post about this great announcement, head on over to Sheri’s blog where she is also writing about it.  In fact, we worked out a special plan for BOTH of us to post about it at 7 am today so that the announcement was made simultaneously!

P.S. S.  If you are reading this and attend our church, please keep this news a secret until next Sunday when we announce it publicly. We were going to announce it yesterday, but I was home sick. Thanks!

I am happy for all of you. Here, up north, I’ll probably be the age of your mother before I become a grandmother, and my mother is pushing 90. It’s amazing that you will have a whole extra generation in there.

I have been very thankful for that. I am waiting for that second wind that everyone is telling me will come in another month or two:) I’ll keep giving mom updates as we go along so you can find out more from her. Thanks for asking. Prayers are appreciated!
