Steve is a frequent customer at our local Ace hardware store and when I say frequent, I mean that they occasionally threaten to present him with own red employee vest.
He loves going in there for two reasons: 1) the staff is friendly and they all know his name 2) there is a whole bunch of guy stuff in there. (Steve loves nothing more than to stroll amidst a group of tools and just breathe in the aura of tool-ness.)
Well, last Saturday when he walked in the door to buy some parts for whatever project he was working on, one of the employees gave him an amused look and said, “You’ve got some southern exposure going on there, Preacher.”
Steve looked down and saw this.
His 10-year old work shorts had given up the ghost in a rather dramatic fashion.
Needless to say, the entire staff got a huge bang out of the preacher and his southern exposure and they were getting on their little headsets to invite people from other parts of the store to come and take a gander.
After everyone had had their giggles and guffaws, Steve asked if anyone had any duct tape available. And since this was a hardware store, guess what? They did!
The clerk got Steve all taped up and sent him on his way.
And do you know what Steve said when he got home and told me the story and showed me shorts?
“Now that I have these shorts fixed up, they should last me another 10 years!”
The vet said we are supposed to start weaning Snowy off his meds but that has not been a simple process. I have cut his steroid in half and am trying to get the pain meds down from three times a day to twice a day. Unfortunately, we’re seeing some breakthrough pain so we’re just trying to experiment and see what the minimum is we can get by with and still keep him comfortable.
Not an easy balance.
All in all though, he’s doing fairly well, keeping us smiling and keeping our hearts full.
Lol love the shorts! He may start the latest trend (looks a lot better than most, that’s for sure!).
So thankful for your Snowy reports. Glad to hear he’s still doing okay! Our four legged babies always seem to find that permanent place in our hearts, don’t they? They bring so much happiness into our lives! 🙂
hey if all your doing is work around the house why not war duct taped shorts, wouldn’t matter if grease or paint or anything else got on those. love how it was decorative tape also, lol. Poor snowy, i agree with what frapper said, maybe just a pill at a time and very slowly.
Just to let everyone know, Becky offered to sew up the shorts, but I declined. They are, for the moment in a garbage can in the garage that doesn’t need to be emptied very often. I glance at them everytime I go into the garage. . . it gives me time to grieve before the desposal. Besides I have an identical pair of shorts that I purchased at the same time, about ten years ago. So all is well.

Love the creative use of duct tape! Would it work better weaning Snowy off his meds one at a time? I know in humans Prednisone is usually weaned pretty slowly. Praying for his comfort.
Steve is trying to get his money’s worth out of those work shorts. New ones won’t last as long or wear as good. Nice idea, Steve. Hope Snowy gets better. Feeling helpless when he is in pain is not an easy task to handle. Take care.
Steve is awesome. Period. But I guess you already know this 🙂

P.S.: That goes for t-shirts, too! 🙂
I totally get keeping the favorite shorts, duct tape and all. Becky, it takes a long time to get the perfect pair of shorts in perfect, comfortable, blissful shape! Hang in there Snowy! Hugs!
