Good Day. Colorful Day.

April 26, 2016

Its’s been quite a while since a Monday has gone by without a post because  Mondays have always been my Official Posting Day. But we hit it running early yesterday morning and by the time we got to our hotel room–many miles and many hours of seminar later– well, let me just say the bed was sightly more attractive to me than the computer. (Not that I don’t love you guys, or anything!)

Happily though, I had a good night’s sleep and am up early and raring to go.

You may recall that part of my blog last week engendered a discussion about packing tips and packing lightly, a concept woefully foreign to me.  I did take all your suggestions very seriously though and you will be pleased to know that I found some success!

As a case in point?  Here are our suitcases. Mine is on the right and Steve’s is on the left.

Okay.  Now raise your hand if you didn’t believe a word of what I said about which suitcase was mine.  Of COURSE, mine is the big one.  I’m the girl!

But it was a nice thought, wasn’t it?

On our way to the conference we stopped at Steve’s parent’s house for the night.  Happily they live halfway between Manteo and Gainesville, GA.  We had dinner with some family, including our nephew, David, who showed his Grandpa Smith some sort of cool video on his phone.

Steve helped his great-niece and great-nephew clean up the approximately 7.4 billion Lego toys they had been playing with. Those were the same toys Steve and his brothers played with when they were young.

Before we pulled out for Georgia on Monday morning, Steve’s parents took us out to breakfast.  And then Ken said “he just had to” get a picture with me in all of my bright colors.

The bright colors even extended to my high dollar shoes.  (Which of course I only paid $3 for.)  Love me some color!

We went out to dinner last night together and then my head (gratefully) hit the pillow about 8:30 p.m.

Even though we have one more day of class tomorrow, today is the day we graduate and get our certificates. (These 40-45 hours of classes we’ve attended over the four sessions are accepted at five different universities as counting toward a third of a Master’s degree in Leadership.)

I hope you have a good (not to mention, colorful) day!

    Didn’t fool me either@

Will some schools take the credit towards a Bachelor in something? That would be a nice start towards a ug degree.

    • Becky says:

      Cath,

And here I thought I was fooling everyone! 🙂

I’m not sure if the credit would work toward a Bachelor’s, or not. Every time they’ve talked about it, they’ve only mentioned a Master’s. And since it only goes toward a degree in Leadership, that’s not something I would pursue anyway. The seminar itself though, has been incredibly worth the time investment. Absolutely amazing, practical help for leaders in business or in the church fields.

Glad you had a safe trip and got some sleep last night. I am learning to slow down some and rest a little instead of constantly being on the go. Colors are beautiful. I do have on a multi-colored blue popcorn blouse today and dark blue shoes. I wanted some nude low heels yesterday as I like your suggestions of lighter shoes but the smallest size was a 7 1/2 and my 6 foot would not handle that. I did get some black ones and they are “shiny” so I will feel fancy wearing them to church and to my meetings this week end with NC District Pilot. Safe travels back home.

    • Becky says:

      Ann,

A multi-colored blue popcorn blouse sounds lovely; I know you’re enjoying wearing it!

You wear the same size shoe as Sarah and she always has a bit of challenge finding shoes, too. Keep looking for the nude color shoe; you will find a pair eventually! In the meantime, enjoy feelin’ fancy in your black shoes! 🙂

I totally believed you about the suitcases! I just figured Steve was taking some of his bulkier “get ups” to entertain the other attendees at some point. Their loss!

    • Becky says:

      Jan,

Yes, it’s a shame Steve wasn’t put in charge of entertainment. There would have been quite the merriment. 🙂

  4. Guerrina says:

I was, “She rocked it!” Sigh. Well, at least you only had one suitcase! I love hearing about each time you visit family – you are blessed 🙂 Love your style with color!

    • Becky says:

      Guerrina,

That’s true. One suitcase is good, right? 🙂

And yes, I am truly blessed by my in laws; love them!

Ha, you didn’t fool me one bit. When I read that, the first thought that came into my head was “I think you mean your other right”!! Your outfit is beautiful. I love the colours. I just got rid of an entire tote of lego. My youngest son’s girlfriend has young siblings so I figured they could use them and that is one thing that even if we have grandchildren, I won’t miss stepping on. Besides, I have an entire toy box full of “Thomas the Tank Engine” trains and track that I refuse to part with so there will still be toys. 🙂 Happy Tuesday. 🙂

    • Becky says:

      Mel,

Yes, the worst thing about Lego toys is finding the “lost” one in the middle of the night with your bare feet. Nathan used to absolutely adore Thomas the Tank Engine. I’m glad you’re holding on to your trains and track–what fun!

  6. Jenna Hoff says:

Your outfit is gorgeous. Glad you have this precious time visiting family and learning even more about leadership. Looks like a wonderful time.

    • Becky says:

      Jenna,

Thank you for the compliment. I used to be hesitant about wearing so much color but lately I’ve decided to just go for it! And yes, it’s been great getting to have family time and seminar time, plus getting to spend extra time with Steve.

  7. LeeAnne says:

You got me too on the suitcase sizes…..I am gullible. 🙂 It’s so great that the folks are half way and that you got in a little family time with them too. Hope you’re having a great day!

  8. Jodi says:

So glad you clarified whose suitcase was really whose because I read & reread (for real) that sentence @ least six times thinking I was missing something! Because while I know whichever suitcase you used was going to be smaller than the one the last time, I was fairly certain that it couldn’t be smaller than the one Steve took??

Wouldn’t be cool if when dropping off a garmet @ a thrift store one included a note about where the item was from (another thrift store/returned) & why it was being left…”Live local & downsizing my closet but loved the skirt when I wore it to my son’s graduation” Ummm, I don’t know, after writing (rereading) that sentence perhaps the thought was better left in my head?

Is there anything you wouldn’t buy from a thrift store? Do you have a checklist you go through in your head beyond its functionality?

Finally, have you ever considered a tutorial aka “How to write/maintain” a blog?” I mean I just started less than ONE week ago on FB & I’m not feeling it, yet! Maybe it’ll come, but I’m feeling we’ve gone backwards as a society whereas we need way too much validation….Jodi

the only way to get the comment section today is to hit reply so here goes- Becky – excellent post and loved the skirt. It’s nice that you and
Steve are working on your Master’s and how wonderful that you get to stay with his folks in transit. YOU GOT ME with the suitcase – I was so impressed that you were able to use the little one and then I read on. As for Jodi comment – it would be interesting to know where something comes from but I don’t see it happening
      have a super day. Becky

      • Becky says:

        Becky,

Just to clarify: I am not working on my Masters but if I WERE to go on and get it, this seminar would earn my credit hours. Steve may go on and get his Masters a little later on; leadership is just not something I am interested enough to get a degree in although I thoroughly enjoyed this seminar.

Sorry about the suitcase switch. 🙂 I thought it would make a fun blog entry.

    • Becky says:

      Jodi,

That phrase “does not compute” was probably rolling through your mind when you read my line about the suitcases, right? 🙂

I like your idea about leaving a note with things dropped off at thrift stores; it would probably never be practical to do, but I have actually often gotten a garment and wondered why it ended up in the store and what was the story behind it. (Especially gorgeous clothing that is virtually new.) Each piece of clothing has a story and I love that you think about the stories, too. About the only thing I wouldn’t buy from a thrift store is underclothing. I’m not quite sure what you mean about a “checklist beyond its functionality.” I do keep running lists of things in my mind whenever I enter a thrift store and I run each piece of clothing through a “vetting process,” concerning type of fabric, color, fit, quality, etc.

And yes, FB can definitely get to be a little too much about “me, me, me” as some people post endless, small details of their lives. I just enjoy being on it to keep in touch with friends and family I don’t get to see very often. And as for blogging, the only thing I have to say is that if you try it and it’s nothing something you truly love, don’t waste your time doing it. Find something ELSE you love! As for me, there would be a huge hole in my life if I didn’t blog so I keep on doing it! 🙂
