Last night, we Skyped with the Floridian part of the family. Be still, my heart.
(Well, I don’t literally want my heart to be still because that would mean I was dead but . . . you know what I mean.)
We got to see this face . . .
and also this face. This face was basically asking, “Who is this loud boy and why is he shouting in my ear?”
That’s what I look like when I first get up from a nap, too!
Madi eventually came around and turned on the charm for Grandma, Grandpa, and Auntie. And trust me when I say we were definitely charmed.
I loved being able to catch Nathan’s loving daddy face in the picture, too.
Although part of my heart is definitely in Florida, the other part is right here in Manteo, with a flower-bestowing husband . . .
and a cookie-bestowing daughter.
The cookie back story is that after lunch yesterday I mentioned to Sarah how much Steve loved oatmeal cookies and I felt bad that I rarely made them. Next thing I knew, Sarah had whipped up a batch for Steve. (Of course, I got to share in the fruit of her baking, too.)
It was especially great weather for cookie-making this past weekend.
You’ll have to excuse how excited we Southerners get with three inches of snow.
Summer and I sat together and watched the huge flakes fall.
At one point, Summer turned around and asked if I would mention to you all that she is highly embarrassed that she’s wearing the old sweater of her stinky predecessor, Snowy. However, it was the only warm thing we had in the house. Girlfriend needs a feminine sweater!
Before I close, I thought I would share with you a Valentine’s collage celebrating the 36 years Steve and I have known each other.
The two individual pictures are basically what we each looked like when we met: I was 17 and he was 22. The right is a picture of us just starting out as youth pastors. (It feels like it was at least 100 years ago.)
And here is what we look like now! The years have been kind to us.
Love the pictures! Your grandbabies are adorable.!! It looks like you had a nice Valentine’s Day. We got about 2 ft of snow over a couple days and it was COLD. Minus 10 degrees with windchills -25. Can’t wait for spring!
Michele,
As i sit here in an easy chair with my cozy blanket tucked in around me, I find myself shivering involuntarily at the idea of 25 below zero wind chill. Just five weeks till spring–hang on! 🙂
Glad you had a good Valentine’s weekend. Mine was filled with cooking and baking and sweet cards from friends. We had snow also. It was pretty but I am truly ready for Spring. Tell Summer that even if that is a Snowy sweater it is very stunning on her. Your photo collage is great. In my mind, I am so much younger than the reflection in the mirror! What happened?
Mary,
I agree. I’m also not quite sure how the person in the mirror got there. Sneaked up on me, that’s for sure! 🙂
I would be excited with three inches of snow also! Here in Texas, we get more ice than snow – our last “good snow” was in 2010. Flurries are definitely an occasion to celebrate and gaze at for as long as possible. (Yet another thing I took for granted growing up in WV). Please let that precious Summer know she looks just fine in that sweater – don’t think there is anything more comfy than an old oversize sweater or sweatshirt. As usual, I really enjoyed all your lovely photos – thanks for sharing them – and stay warm!!
Sue Ellen,
There is nothing quite as lovely as beautiful snowfall. I know you miss it, not having seen snow for SIX years. Wow! That’s a long time.
I passed on your comment to Summer and she was very appreciative. 🙂
those grandkids are entirely too cute! Loved the post, love you guys! Enjoy the lovely southern snow! Love, deb
Deb,
I would definitely have to agree on the cuteness factor in those grand kids!
The southern snow is gone but we enjoyed those three inches for three whole days.
Glad you got to enjoy time with the Florida Smiths. We got a dusting of snow last night but not enough to cover the grass just the streets. Now it is sleet. I plan to stay in today.
Ann,
Staying in is a great thing to do when it’s sleeting out!
Awwww…such sweet little faces! Isn’t Skype wonderful?!?!
Glad you are enjoying your snow. We ended up with 16″ from our storm. It was a blizzard with 40 to 50 mph winds so lots of big drifts. Ugh. Thank goodness the sun has come out and we are expecting some upper 50’s this week to help get rid of it. 🙂
You and Steve still look as young as ever! 😉
LeeAnne,
Sixteen inches and 50 mph? It reminds me of some of my childhood memories from Wisconsin! I’m so glad I don’t deal with that anymore and glad your temps have turned warm enough to melt some of it.
Think spring! 🙂
Yup, Skype and Face Time are wonderful things! Portland OR-to-New York NY frequent video “conferences” mean that as young as they are, when I show up at their house in NY, my NY grandsons know exactly who I am, and there’s no hug delay to allow for shyness.
It may not be the look you were shooting for, but that last picture totally says Sonny and Cher to me. I love it!
Yes, this former Buffalonian thinks 3″ of snow is totally “cute.”
Jan,
You are right on the money! That shot of Steve and I was taken from a Sonny and Cher song: I Got You, Babe. 🙂
Kudos on your knowledge of old music and vintage fashion!
