If you’ve been hanging out with our family for any time at all, you may have noticed that Sarah is a gal of many hairstyles. She seems to have the kind of hair that just does what it’s told, unlike mine which appears to have rebellion woven throughout its strands.
Late last week, she got yet another brand new look. I thought that before showing it to you, it would be fun to do a post featuring her many styles, going all the way back to when she was just a youngster.
Before we get started though, I wanted to mention that Sarah has been sick most of the week with a cold/flu/sinus infection combination to the point where she’s missed school, a young adult class at church, and a dance/drama rehearsal. She doesn’t miss many things so when she does, I know she’s really sick.
She actually scared the stuffing out of me this past Wednesday morning. I was in the bathroom getting ready for work when she came in, deathly white, and said, “Mom, I think I am going to throw up.”
I immediately got her over to the toilet and stood with her, waiting for the inevitable. (Like I did so many times during her cancer treatment.) However, the inevitable never came.
She eventually stood back up and swayed a little on her feet as I guided her back across the bathroom. When she got near the sink and I caught a glimpse of her face in the mirror, I experienced a sudden Worried Mama Jolt. I couldn’t see even the smallest hint of pink anywhere in her skin or her lips–I have never in my life seen a person so completely without color. She was sweaty and clammy, she wasn’t moving and she wasn’t talking. Then suddenly her eyes rolled back in her head, her eyelids started closing and she gasped loudly, several times for air. I called her name two or three times but got no response.
To be completely honest I thought to myself, “She is going to die right here in front of me!” A little melodramatic I know, but I had never seen her do anything like that.
I grabbed more tightly to her arm to hold her up and half dragged her to a nearby chair. After about a minute had passed, she finally came back to reality. She told me later she didn’t even remember going to the chair so I guess she did lose consciousness for a few seconds.
She was cold and shivering when I laid her on our bed and got her some water and something to eat. In about 10 minutes, she was much improved, although still rather pale and shaky. All I can think is that she must have had a sudden and severe drop in blood pressure and/or blood sugar.
She still has a terrible cough and is very tired, but at least we haven’t had any more scary passing out spells. I’m pretty sure I gained six new gray hairs in just six seconds!
And speaking of hair (wasn’t that a wonderful segue?) here are the promised photos. Enjoy the lovely trip down a very lovely memory lane.

And now, here is the latest hairstyle. Sarah is rocking the Audrey Hepburn look!
We were actually going to do a real photo shoot together to truly show off the new hairstyle, but Sarah has felt too bad for the last few days to get geared up for one. I’ll try to post a few more photos of her new hair next week.
I wanted to thank you all for your concern and prayers last Monday when I had my endoscopy. The only thing the doctor noticed immediately was inflammation in my esophagus; he did some other tests and biopsies that we will have the results from later.
By the way, the Outer Banks is expecting 1-3 inches of snow later today. Woo- hoo!
Hi Becky,
I love Sarah’s new hairstyle!
I think that I had something like Sarah did back in December. I was standing at a register at work. I thought that i was going to throw up.. I felt kind of nauseous. A little later I felt like I was going to pass out. I yelled over to a supervisor to take over for me on the register. She took over and I went and sat on a bench for a bit. I had the supervisor purchase a Sierra Mist. I hope that Sarah feels better soon and you get some good results. Hugs and Prayers!
Kristi,
That’s a bad feeling when that happens, isn’t it? Glad you didn’t actually pass out–not so much fun when you’re at work!
How’s Sarah feeling today? I hope you got your test results back!
Jodi
Jodi,
Sarah is getting a little better day by day; still has a nasty cough.
I won’t see the GI doctor for 3 weeks; that’s the first follow up appointment they had open. I’m not stressed over it though, since I’m not waiting on any “big” results, like back when we were waiting on Sarah’s biopsies.
Thanks for checking on us!
Oh my goodness…I LOVE Sarah’s new hairstyle. She looks amazing in it. So glad she is finally on the mend. How scary that had to be for you! Glad you got some pretty snow over there. It’s snowing here today in Northern MN but its not a pretty snow. The wind is gusting to 30 mph and its kinda yucky out. Wendy
Wendy,
I remember those WI/MN winters. NOT for the faint of heart! 🙂
We have still have snow on the ground but it will get to 50 degrees today so it will be gone soon. Fun while it lasted.
I’m glad you like Sarah’s new hairdo; I think it is adorable!
Sarah’s hair cut looks a lot of the daughter of the district attorney on Blue Blood.
Jim,
I had to Google a picture of her since I didn’t know who she was but you’re right–haircuts VERY similar. And very cute!
Am hoping both of you feel well soon. My favorite hair do for Sarah is that touseled look, two down from her graduation portrait. maybe because i wish I could wear that style but can’t. She’s such a gorgeous girl and has the most cooperative hair. Grows fast too. Deserves all those breaks after all she had to endure with losing her hair those darker days.
Cath,
Yes, I liked that tousled look, too. It was amazing how easily her hair went into that style. You’re right–after a couple years of little/no hair, it’s great to see her with dozens of different styles! 🙂
New hair style is so cute!! Glad she is feeling better. I can imagine the scare you had, Becky. We did not have any snow today–just a couple of flurries for a very short time. Enjoy your 3 inches. May the Smith household have a fantastic Valentine’s Day.
Ann,
Yesterday was one of the most beautiful snowfalls I have seen in a long time; the flakes were HUGE for about 3 hours. LOVED it!
I love the new hairstyle! Praying Sarah feels better nsoon with no mpore scary episodes. I’m glad your endoscopy din’t show anything bad and that they can help you get rid of the inflammation.
Michele,
Thanks for your encouraging words. Yes, I hope Sarah is over the worst of her symptoms (and scary episodes) and yes, I agree her haircut is darling! 🙂
All of those hairstyles – no matter what her age – beautiful. And her new one – it is so perfect for her. Pray you’re doing much better Sara.
Sharyn,
She is definitely the Hairstyle Gal! Thankfully, she seems to be feeling stronger today.
She looks great 😀
And so fun to to go down memory lane. Could you repost the post you wrote that goes to the picture with the white dress and crown? I remember you found that dress on a flea market or something and I love that post 🙂 Hehe can you believe i have stuck around with you guys for 10 years this summer? 🙂 I
I think my favorite Sarah hair style is: the long hair , and the one where it is middle long and long bangs (she is wearing the purple shirt) and her new hair cut:)
I hope she feels better soon
And my hair style is just the old same long dyed black hair. I almost had that for 2 years now 🙂
Trine
Trine,
Here is the link to that post; it’s one of my favorites, too.

So glad to have had you along on the journey all these years! 🙂
Sarah you look beautiful! You truly can rock any hair style! I sure hope you start feeling better soon! Thankfully your momma is there to take good care of you!
What a scary moment that must’ve been for you! Hope that never happens again!
? Jodi
Jodi,
I’m hoping that same thing right along with you! 🙂
Great new style! Fits her face so well. That episode in your bedroom sounds awfully scary. I don’t think you were being overly dramatic at all. Poor kid and poor you! Hopefully the next week will bring a healthy Sarah.
Lesley,
Yes, that definitely freaked me out just a little!
Now that she’s been on antibiotic a couple of days, I think she’s feeling a little stronger. Hope your Sarah is feeling much better these days!
Oh my goodness gracious golly and WOW! The new hairdo is amazing!! It shows her beautiful face to full advantage! This is the one!!! (Can you tell I’m really excited about it? And now I have to go to Costco to buy more !!!s.)
Only 6 new gray hairs? You ARE a strong woman. Mine would all have turned gray (if that happened when I was younger and had any hairs that aren’t gray). You ARE a strong woman, Becky. (Here’s where a spare ! would have come in handy.)
Hoping you get a diagnosis that says it’s “all the foods you eat that you don’t like but feel you should eat because they’re good for you” so you should stop eating them and eat nothing but chocolate and other beloved foods to reduce the inflammation in your esophagus. ( Oh, for a !.)
Jan,
You! Are! Too! Funny!!!!! 🙂
Hope Sarah is soon all better. She is always so adventurous with her hair and so pretty. Hope you are feeling all better too. We have some snow coming this afternoon but I think today you have more forecasted than we do! Imagine: more snow in North Carolina today than thousands of kilometres farther north in Alberta, Canada! Stay warm and cozy!
Jenna,
I imagine this might be the only time in history when we are outdoing you on the snow front!
It is coming down heavy right now and is soooo beautiful. Such a treat for us southerners.
Cute hair do Sarah. I hope you are feeling a lot better today.
Margie,
Thankfully, she is stronger and less pale today!
I like the short styles on Sarah because they always frame her BEAUTY!
St. Louis had 1/2-1″ of snow on Wednesday. took me 1 1/2 hours for a normal 1/2 hour trip home after playing Bridge. CRAZY! Also discovered that I had no snow removal implements in the car. Found out that a Bach cd case was a good substitute! and a little classy, too… or, should I say classic?
continued prayers for you, Becky.
Mrs. Pam,
I think that all snow removal implements should be festooned with a likeness of Bach! I hoped you hummed a little to yourself while you were clearing your windshield!
Lovely as always, Sarah!! Love the new do!! 🙂
Tiffany,
I do believe the do suits her well. 🙂
Prayers up for you, Sarah! I LOVE this style on you!
Guerrina,
Thanks for the prayers and do kudos!
Oh my gosh!! I LOVE the new hair style Sarah! It looks awesome on you!! I hope you get to feeling better very, very soon. There really is a lot of gunk going around. 🙁 Come on Spring! We need to get the windows open and the houses aired out!!
LeeAnne,
Open windows would be a wonderful thing, wouldn’t they? I just happened to noticed that it is staying light an hour longer than it was in December so I’m pretty stoked about that!
I’ve been sick this week too with the same kind of thing! Prayers for Sarah!! Loved looking at all the pics! What a precious doll!! I love all her looks!! Her latest is smashing!! Love love love!!
Melanie,
So nice to see your name pop up. 🙂 I hope you are feeling much, much better and that on this snowy day, you can stay at home and do nothing but rest.
Glad you enjoyed the trip down the memory lane of all of Sarah’s hairdo’s. I’m glad you like her new one as much as we do!
I love the new hairstyle!! Hope you get to feeling better Sarah!!
Shawn,
Thank you!! A little better every day.
Love Sarah’s new hair style! Enjoy the snow, I know I would. Hoping to see some when I am back in MN next month.
Cindy from Sonoma
