Little School. Tiny Bus. Short Months.

Thanksgiving

Well, our number of guests for Thanksgiving Dinner has morphed from 18 to 22!   Steve and I have always believed in the “more the merrier” axiom so we  are looking forward to the merriest of times.

If you missed this post from last Friday, be sure to stop by and read through the comments; there are a lot of excellent Thanksgiving cooking tips there.  If you have any to add, please feel free!

Corolla Part 2

I recently posted photos from our day trip to Corolla; here is Part 2 of that trip.

Right near that beautiful setting is the Corolla lighthouse and just beyond that, a fascinating “tree fence.”

The fence surrounds this building which is the smallest public school in North Carolina! Is that not the cutest thing you have ever seen?

We drove another short ways and screeched to a halt when Steve spotted this interesting bus.  (It looks like the bus should go with the school, doesn’t it?)

My interested-in-all-things-vehicular husband had to take a closer look.

Here he is very knowledgeably pointing out something to me about the blue thingie.  I nodded and tried to look suitably impressed.

He was delighted to find that the wee little bus was unlocked.

Look at that grin!  This is probably what he wants for Christmas.  He could trade in the Miata for it.

And then the temptation proved just too great and he had to take a peek under the hood. What men find to look at under hoods I will never understand but hey–hood-looking is a cheap hobby.

All in all, it was such a lovely day to spend together.  I have gotten to the point where I am counting down the months (just 8 left) before Sarah moves away for her last two years of college. That quickly diminishing number makes me treasure these days all the more.

Happiest Thanksgiving to you and all those you love.

    Leeanne,

Family gatherings are good. Quiet is good. Best of both worlds!

I, too, wondered where the police cars where while Steve was poking around that bus. Surely there’s more to the story, right?

It’s so not fun having long distance children. Hopefully, after graduation, Sarah will want to return to Mateo to live.

      Jan,

Actually, we were in a tourist town on the off season and we did not see any other person anywhere for about ten minutes!

I’ll be interested to see where Sarah ends up after graduation. I guess a lot of it depends on what fella she marries.

love that school house. I always thought it would be fun to have a little school bus as my car…, especially since there would have been so much storage space for school supplies.

glad the tree was saved when the fence was built.

Enjoy the time together. Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Becky: if feasible, you could cook all of the side dishes in disposable containers! You can also send leftovers home w/ people in those same containers or on paper plates wrapped in foil (the later I’m sure most do)! Personally, if I thought paper/plastic goods would hold….I’d use them instead of the real stuff to further reduce the time it takes to do the icky part of the holiday meals!

      Jodi,

Good time-saving advice! We are putting some of our larger-quantity food in some disposable containers and we always send the leftovers home with the Dare Challenge guys. We’re still doing our table cloth, cloth napkins and real dishes though, because we want them all to feel like they are being given the royal treatment!

      • Jodi says:

What a special evening your family continues to host each year! Bring on the dishes….every last one! The DARE Challange Men deserve to be given the royal treatment! I can’t wait to hear all about it through your words & pictures!

That bus! Did anybody come running when Steve climbed in? Or lifted the hood? Or were the eyeballs that were looking at him from under the hood supposed to fulfill that duty?
Can’t wait to hear about your annual Thanksgiving gala!
A very Happy Thanksgiving to all of you.

    • Becky says:

      Lesley,

There was not a soul to be seen while Steve was examining the bus. And if someone did see him, they may have just thought he was the visiting driver/mechanic. 🙂

Cherished time with family is priceless! We are just coming down off of a super fun weekend with kids, grandkids, my brother and sister-in-law and my dad and other mom. So, so much great time together! We will be on our own for Thanksgiving and it will be so quiet but very nice. Wishing a very happy Thanksgiving to you and your entire family.
