Rain, Crab Pots, Hope and Autographs.

January 23, 2012

(At the end of this post, you can find out what I’ve decided to do concerning the “Read More” option.)

Saturday afternoon, I drove an hour and a half to pick up Sarah who had spent a couple of days with her friend, Hope. (Hope’s mom was meeting me halfway between our two towns.)  I decided to grab my camera and leave a little early in case I happened to see any loveliness in need of capturing.

After driving a while,  I did indeed see a picturesque spot and I happily jumped out of the van, Nikon in hand, to start shooting.  Unfortunately, I only got in a dozen shots or so before being rather rudely interrupted by rain.

Most of the pictures I took featured these . . .  thingies. I’m not precisely certain but I think they’re crab pots.   I’m sure they would have been stunningly colorful on a sunny day but they still held their own, even beneath the cover of clouds.

After the shortest photography session in the history of the world, it was on to the rainy rendezvous with Hope’s family to retrieve my most lovely daughter and take her home.

I shot these pictures as the two girls were hugging good-bye. I love the smiles of friends.

After capturing the girls’ cheery faces, Melody, Hope’s mom, came over with a smile and an umbrella.  She held out a CD and a Sharpie to me and said, “Becky, could I have your autograph?”

Turns out she had read this post  of mine and truly understood for the first time how very famous I am.  She found her own copy of the CD I had referenced and brought it along to our rendezvous so that she could score The Famous Signature Of The Famous Woman.   (Of course, the whole thing was  done tongue-in-cheek, but it certainly made us both grin.)

And so, after an afternoon of rain, crab pots, Hope, and autographs, Sarah and I turned the van back toward Manteo.

And if we weren’t exactly singing in the rain, we were definitely smiling.

The Read More Option

On Friday, I featured a poll to give my readers a chance to vote on whether or not they wanted me to use the Read More option here on Smithellaneous.  At the end of the day, the vote was 62 against and 93 for and so I will be utilizing the feature from now on.

However, since it makes me a teeny bit sad to think about all of you who really prefer not to use that feature, I have a couple helpful things you can do to make the process more palatable.

1.  You can subscribe to the blog (there is a window for your email address in the right column) and every time I post, the blog will be delivered to your inbox.

2.  You can look in the right hand column and find a list of my most recent posts; click on any of those and you will be taken to the full post.

3.   You can click on the title of any post and the whole post will open up without having to ever click Read More.

I hope those options continue to make it easy for everyone to get around the blog.  Thanks to everyone for your patience, gracious attitudes and encouragement as I keep working on getting the new Smithellaneous Home organized.

I like the way the front page looks with the “read more”. I didn’t get to vote but would have gone with this option! Now, I just wish your blag had an App for my ipad!

Jill, glad you like it. I really love how easy it makes to see the past posts at a glance without doing a whole bunch of scrolling. As for an App for your iPad? Wouldn’t THAT be fun?

      • Jill says:

YES! An App with your photo on it I could just touch and boom, your blog is there!
        Off to read wedding Wednesday!

Becky, thanks for your suggestions. I think I will give suggestion 3 a try.

Love your pics!!! I was wondering if Sarah has a boyfriend yet? She is so cute and I know Steve is having to fight them away.. 🙂
I had a breast biopsy last Monday and my drs office called today and she wants me to come in to see her in the morning. After a week of waiting, this was NOT what I was expecting. I know Gods got this though, so its all good.
    Keep up the great posts!!

Kaye, no Sarah doesn’t have an official boyfriend, or really any boyfriend for that matter. She can’t go on single dates for a while yet although she has been asked a couple times at school.

I can definitely assure you I know how it is when you have a biopsy result pending; please let me know how things turn out. Hugs!

It was cancer.. I go to the surgeon Tues. and the saga begins… Praying I do as well as you did.

Kaye, what seems like one of the worst days of your life will be looked back on as the day that started you on a whole new journey, and may I even say a whole new adventure. You will meet new friends, discover new strengths, and unearth new joys that wouldn’t have been possible without this experience. Which is not to say it will be easy–it won’t. But it will definitely be doable and you will walk through it with your head high and your spirits brightened by everyone thinking of you and praying for you. Cancer sister hugs to you!

Thanks for the uplifting words. I have a great support system and several “Bosom Buddies” that are sharing things with me. God will carry me thru. Blessings to you.

What beautiful photos of Sarah and Hope. Good friends are to be treasured and cherished. They are both such beautiful girls- not just only on the outside. You can really see their kind, sweet personalities coming through the photos as well.

One comment about the email notifications. I’ve signed up for it, however can only ever see text on the email notifications (photos never show up). So, I use the email notifications to know when to go to your website to read a new post.

As well, one other tech issue I have had is I can’t leave comments on your blog when using my iPhone (which is how I often read blog posts). If i want to leave a comment, I have to go to your website using my computer. I’m not sure if this is a problem with just my iPhone or if others encounter it as well. I also tried to vote “against” using my iPhone and it wouldn’t let me submit a vote.

      Jenna,

I’m sorry you’re having trouble seeing the blog with your iPhone. I posted your question on a blogger’s forum that I’m a part of to see if anyone is aware of a cause (or a solution) to what you’re experiencing. Since I don’t have an iPhone, I’m afraid I can be of absolutely no help. (It’s one of the many areas in which I am ignorant.)

Thanks for your kind words about Hope and Sarah; they truly are sweet, sweet girls.

      • Becky says:

Jenna, just got a response from the blog forum; they said to try the following:

Her email app may not receive HTML emails, or she may have to switch a setting allowing her email app to download external images, some block them by default to make emails load faster.

Hope that’s at least a little bit helpful!

Trine, glad you’re going to keep reading; would hate to lose a long time Smith Family Reader! I love those pictures of the two girls, too!

I love the pictures of the “smiling friends”, and, of the crab pots as well. I can always count on your blog to brighten my day. We are having a rainy, dull day here in Toronto, and, as I sit at my computer at work, I always look to you to make me feel brighter. You did it again 🙂
