Although Steve and I were just there as spectators, the photographer was sweet enough to snap a quick shot  of us with Sarah.  Steve said he looks a little befuddled in this picture but it turned out well considering we weren’t really planning on a family photo.

This pose was Sarah’s idea and I loved how it turned out. It beautifully sums up a life of miracles and thanksgivings.

What’s your favorite photo and why?

Note: Photos by Stacy McDonald from Simply You Photography.

I can’t recommend Stacy  highly enough. She is fun and professional to work with and her rates are very reasonable.  Sarah felt so at ease with her and it shows in the pictures. If you’re an Outer Banks local or you’re coming here on vacation with your family, give her a call at 252-489-8436. Tell her Becky Smith sent you! 🙂

  1. She has grown to be such a beautiful young woman, both inside and out.

  2. JennyJoT says:

Oh, I could only narrow it down to three (but they’re ALL wonderful). My favorites are the one of her in the field of yellow flowers (third from the top), the black & white one of her sitting on the stump, and the the final one – so joyful and expectant! She is beautiful inside and out. 🙂

  3. sharyn McDonald says:

My niece is an author and writes in the Jane Eyre type of setting. Seeing Sara, she could really pose in that era of clothing. All of her pictures are so beautiful. Yes, a new chapter in her life coming up.

  4. Karen Cathey says:

All of them just show Sarah’s classic beauty. I love the typewriter as a prop. Priceless and beautiful photos of a priceless and beautiful young woman!

  5. Cindy from Sonoma says:

Number one, four, and twenty are my favorites. They are all wonderful though! I don’t know how you will pick just wonder. I love that they all reflect Sarah in such special ways.

  6. Phyllis says:

I like the very first one best. They do so many different things with senior pictures now compared to when I was a senior. My nephew had one standing by the railroad tracks and another kneeling in front of a train. In both he had on a t-shirt of the junior college that he wants to attend for their train program. He also had the obligatory one with a suit and tie. My cousin’s granddaughter’s picture had a stack of books with her head resting on them. Both fit their personalities and interests. Congratulations to Sarah on her upcoming graduation.

    • Becky says:

      Phyllis,

You are so right about senior pictures having changed a lot in the past few years–they are so creative and imaginative these days! I love the idea of the photo you mentioned with a girl resting her head on a stack of books.

  7. Jojy Smith says:

GO GET ‘EM AT COLLEGE, SWEETIE!

  8. Rebecca from the UK says:

I think this is about the third time I have commented on your blog in the 7 years I have been following it!
Congratulations Sarah – the world is your oyster and may you be blessed with all your heart desires!
My absolute favourite picture (although they are all fantastic and Sarah is sooo pretty) is #9. Sarah looks serene and beautiful in that one.
Looking forward to hearing all about Sarah’s next steps!

    • Becky says:

      Rebecca,

As I’ve said before, I always love hearing from new commenters and “rare” commenters. 🙂 Thanks for taking the time to leave a note!

I love number nine too; she looks so grown up and utterly peaceful.

  9. Ann Martin says:

Glad I don’t have to choose. They are all great!!!!! Such a miracle. Just watch for my TBT picture on FB this week. Congratulations on a great event–high school graduation and I just had my 50th class reunion on Saturday. I graduated June 3, 1964. Such memories.

    • Becky says:

      Ann,

I saw your reunion pictures on FB; it was so much fun to look at them all! I know those are some very special people in your life, to have shared so many memories with.

  10. Kristi says:

    Wonderful photos! 🙂

  11. deb mantik says:

impossible to choose a favorite, but I really like #1, #3, #8, #9. They all capture a bit of what makes up beautiful Sarah!
    Love deb

  12. Tim Campbelol says:

picture 1 and 4, the first one being the best, she radiates life and beauty in that picture, picture four captures an essence of her.

    • Becky says:

      Tim,

Did you mean to end your last name with lol? That’s pretty funny! (Trust my big brother to do something goofy!)

Yes, I agree, she is absolutely radiant in #1. And #4 is one of my top 3 favorites. I love everything about it.

  13. CeCe says:

Last one ” God is Good!”

  14. Mrs. Pam says:

the first one is my favorite. but, all of them are fantastic… her beauty just radiates with her gorgeous smile and sparkling eyes!
looking forward to reading that new chapter!!!!

    • Becky says:

      Mrs. Pam,

I am also looking forward to the new chapter of Sarah’s life–and I am sooooo thankful that part of that chapter at least, will be lived out here in Manteo and not a thousand miles away at some university!

  15. TiffanyH says:

The last one is my favorite… the way the sun is coming through, it looks like God is smiling down on Sarah, and saying, I brought you to this place, and I will continue to shine on you! All the photos are stunning… hope you get a copy of all of them!! Sarah is a very easy subject to photograph though… 🙂

    • Becky says:

      Tiffany,

I never really noticed how the sun is shining in that photo; I’m glad you pointed that out. And yes, we have all the photos on a disk; it’s up to us to decide which ones we want to print.

  16. Mindy Barker says:

My favorite is the close-up of her looking over her shoulder (with her off to the right of the photo). Love that you can see her beautiful eyes! Also love the typewriter pics and the last one with her hands in the air – such great photos!

    • Becky says:

      Mindy,

I’m a little partial to those typewriter pics myself; such a perfect prop for her since she’s not such a writer but also an old soul!

  17. Connie says:

I can’t pick a favorite, but must say she is so beautiful in every picture. Sarah…I wish you the strength to face challenges with confidence…Along with the wisdom to choose your battles…..I wish you adventure on your “Next Chapter” and my you stop to help someone along the way….Listen to your heart and take risks carefully…Remember how much you are loved by so many…..May all your dreams come true. Congratulations on your graduation !!!

    • Becky says:

      Connie,

What beautiful words . . . and I can guarantee Sarah will be stopping to help someone along the way. She truly has a heart to help.

  18. Lesley says:

Wow! So hard to choose. I love the last one, for the emotion is displays–The world is all hers. Also, I love the very closely cropped pic of just her face looking over her shoulder. And i love the one of her sitting in the dress and hat looking back over her shoulder with the typewriter in front of her–all Sarah.

  19. Gail Puckett says:

I loved them all!!!, I would hate to be the one to have to choose, I WOULD WANT THEM ALL!!!!!. I love the one of her lying in the field with the typewriter, BUT I also loved the one of her standing in the field with all the yellow flowers, Oh SNAP, I love them all!
She is so beautiful, and such a wonderful miracle from God!

    • Becky says:

      Gail,

Well, thankfully we do have them all on a disk so the only thing we have to choose is which ones to print! (We also had to choose which ones to use for her graduation announcement which was pretty tough.)

Oh SNAP, I love them all, too! 🙂

  20. Marjie says:

The one where Sarah is laying by the typewriter… then the one where it is printed new chapter!!!!! They are all beautiful. I was thinking what an awesome site for you to to see Senior Pictures when there was a time you weren’t sure she would live to see this chapter in her life!!!

    • Becky says:

      Marjie,

It’s so true what you said . . . senior pictures are extra meaningful to this family since we didn’t know if she would ever graduate. Thankful!

  21. Ruth says:

I like the one toward the end, of her sitting by the iron gate on a bench with the old type writer; the creamy lace dress and hat, give it an aura of 1900. I am reading “The Story Girl” by L.M. Montgomery and Sara looks like the heroine, precisely. They are all beautiful shots of a lovely young lady. Congratulations and much joy ahead. Ruth

    • Ruth says:

oops, Sarah, I was thinking of the “Story Girl” spelling of the name.

      • Becky says:

        Ruth,

Well, we’ll let it go this once. (Your misspelling of Sarah’s name.) 🙂 “The Story Girl” is a cool book title–actually one that describes Sarah well!

  22. Liz says:

Not sure how you choose! They are all beautiful of Sarah.

  23. Patti says:

All wonderful. Beautiful photos of a beautiful grad. I would say may favorite is lying down on the wood porch-just because it is unique. Also love the typewriter shots.

  24. sheri says:

Our Beautiful Miracle! I say “our” because we all feel the joy of the miracle of her life! Well done to the photographer for capturing the REAL Sarah! Love you guys!! (PS – Of course Steve looks befuddled. It’s the standard expression of Daddy’s when faced with the grown up version of their “little girls.”)

    • Becky says:

      Sheri,

Ha. How true that is about the look on Steve’s face. I think it may stay there perpetually for the next few months. (And years.)

  25. Mary H says:

Next to impossible to choose a favorite – I say, get all of them! Of course, I love the last photo of celebration and life. However, I do really like the one of Sarah on the bench with the hat looking over her shoulder with the typewritter in front of her – it completely sums up the woman she is – class, beauty, kindness and a passion for the written word and the future of authorship. Excellent choice of props for these graduation photos.

    • Becky says:

      Mary,

Glad you liked the typewriter prop; we just thought of using it a couple days before the shoot and are so glad we did since it’s a great representation of so many parts of Sarah!

  26. LeeAnne says:

I just love them all! The one of Sarah laying down in the meadow and the typewriter is very creative. 🙂 What a neat idea. They all make her look SOOO grown up and really accentuate her beauty….good luck choosing!

  27. Nicole says:

All I can say is, good luck at choosing! They all look fantastic!
