Friday Round Up

March 17, 2017

Although I try not to write about my grandchildren too terribly much (because I realize they are FAR more fascinating to me than they are to anyone else), I do have to share this collage that our magnificent daughter-in-law, Meagan, recently posted on Facebook.

She said that Noah had turned around and asked her, “Mom, how am I doing?” So, so sweet.

Weird Item

Now onto another (not quite as precious) picture.  You may remember that on Monday I posted this weird item that Sarah and I had seen at a thrift store. There were quite a few guesses as to what it was but most of you were like me–clueless.

Well, I am happy to report that long-time reader, Stefanie, has figured it out for us. It is a double chicken roaster! I guess the idea is to prop up both chickens on both round thingies and roast away. Who knew?

Thanks, Stefanie for solving the Chicken Roaster Mystery.

Family Cards

Instead of doing Christmas cards this past year, we did New Year’s cards and I just happen to have fifteen of them left over.  If you would enjoy having a card (signed by the three of us), leave a comment at the end of this post and then email your address to me at smithellaneousATyahoo.com.

(I’m asking you to comment so that if anyone wonders how many cards have been spoken for, they can check the comments.)

Madi

Last week I posted about the young girl, Madi, that Sarah and I have mentored over the past few years. (Here is another post about her.)

Last Saturday, we got word that her mother had passed away at just thirty-nine years old. Madi has not had much contact with her mom and has lived with her grandma most of her life, but the loss of such an important person in her life has still been very difficult.

If you think about Madi, and her grandma, Wanda, please pray for peace and comfort.

Thank you for stopping by and, as always, thank you for making this Smithellaneous corner of the world such a lovely place to be.

Adorable picture of Noah and Madison! Post as many as you want, they are so adorable and Noah looks like a very conscientious big brother. I always wanted an older brother!

Your “other” Madi looks so much older than the post from 2015. Love her hair! That is so sad to lose her mother at such a young age, your mentoring is probably a big help to both Madi and her Grandmother.

Never would have guessed that was chicken cooker. Beer can chicken is my absolute favorite but our holder is a thick type wire that you put the can of beer in and place the chicken over the can. We have only ever used it on the grill so I never knew it was done in oven. Considering how much I dislike beer I’m surprised I like the chicken so much!

      Kari,

I just think it was fascinating that so few us knew what that chicken cooker really was.

Sounds like you’ve got a great chicken cookin’ method worked out of your own!

I would love to have a card from your family! I have been following your family story from almost the beginning. Love the pictures. Don’t you have a similar one of Nathan holding Sarah’s hand about the same age? Prayers for Madi and her family!

    • Becky says:

      Donna,

You have a great memory! I was just thinking after I posted yesterday that there was a similar picture. I’ll have to see if I can find it.

  3. A shout-out! Woohoo! The idea is to fill those “voids” with beer – we’ve used a metal frame that serves double-duty: to hold the beer can AND prop up the chicken. We were fancy like that for about three weeks and figured out it was more hassle than it was worth. 🙂

You can post pics of those precious grandbabies ANY time. 🙂

      Stefanie,

Yep. You are the Smithellaneous Heroine of the Week! 🙂

I could have pondered that mysterious item for 30 years and never even come close to a solution. So nice to learn something new. 🙂

I love the precious pictures of your grands! And I would definitely love a card signed by the three Smiths. Madi and her grandmother Wanda will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I found a double chicken roaster at Williams Sonoma for ONLY $49.95!!!!! One would need to eat roasted chickens daily to justify that expense. Does that make you want to get your find?

precious photos of the walking grands.

The pictures of the grandchildren, Noah and Madison, are precious. I have always loved that pose. Have one of my great niece and great nephew that way. Have enjoyed our card. It is so special. Have a blessed weekend.

  8. Marylea says:

I would LOVE a card as an encouragement while going through this brutal chemo…

    • Becky says:

      Marylea,

You have had such a time of it these past months but you are standing strong and closer every day to the end of the treatment.

A card will be on its way to cheer you!

  9. Sarah says:

I just emailed for a card. That is such a sweet picture of the two grandkids holding hands!

    Hi Becky,

I would absolutely LOVE to have one of your leftover cards!!!!! I don’t care what I’m doing, when I see a Smitheaneous e-mail, I have to stop whatever else I’m trying to do and read it. I think I started reading about Sarah and your family around 2007 in Caringbridge.
