 Dabs of Cuteness

Today’s post will be made up of lots of this and a little of that.  Let’s get started with what’s most important—the grandbabies!

Is this not cute?  Noah, Dad, and Grandpa Hawley, hard at work.

And here is the person responsible for creating that little Dab of Cuteness.  Meagan is 25 weeks pregnant with Dab of Cuteness #2.

Love this lady and love the babies she makes!

Random Shots

Although not quite as high on the Dabs of Cuteness meter, I thought I would model my new birthday scarf for you, a gift from my childhood friend, Lorrie.  You can never go wrong buying me scarves and costume jewelry; I love them both.

(Note: I didn’t mean to have the smithellaneous watermark in the corner of all the pictures; I hit the wrong button and it got added automatically. Just ignore.)

The following picture is rather random but I just had to share it.  I mean, how often does one come across an actual phone booth in one’s day?  Not very often, right?

Here’s a discussion question: when and where was the last time you saw a phone booth. Can you even remember?

This was in the King’s Daughter’s Children’s Hospital in Norfolk where I was visiting a young lady from our church.

And this is an area at the hospital where kids and teens (including the 18-year old I was visiting) who are going through physical therapy practice their walking.

Phone booths and space-themed hallways—pretty cool hospital, right?

Steve, The Bad Guy

Last week I shared some pictures of Sarah practicing for our Easter drama. In the interest of equal screen time, here are some shots of Steve.

This year he is playing a scheming Pharisee—he always enjoys getting a chance to play a bad guy since he never gets to be a bad guy in real life. Thankfully.

(The next two photos are courtesy of one of our church members.)

I love Steve’s “I am not amused” look.

In these shots, he is not quite so bad guy-ish.  I guess even the scheming Pharisees had to smile every once in a while.

This picture doesn’t have Steve in it but I’m including it because I liked the angle that I found.

This guy is playing Pilate who contemns Jesus to be crucified. He is a former military policeman, about 6’6, with a booming voice and will be dressed in a scarlet robe. To say that he has “presence” would be an understatement.

Although Steve has a role in the drama, his main focus has been organizing several crews to build the sets and designing/building the lighting. You can not even imagine how many hours go into those two jobs.

At the back of the auditorium we have what serves as my office during the week and the tech room during services.  I told our sound and light guys to groove along to the song the actors were performing and this is what I got.

Although I’m designing the video screens for the Easter production, Sarah will actually run the media. (Except for the one song where she dances; I’ll step in for that.)  The screen to the far left is where she will sit during the performances.  During the week, that’s where I sit while I work. There are curtains that I pull during the week to separate me from that huge auditorium and me feel more office-like.  Pulling those curtains also allows me to use my little space heater and get that room heated to about 100 degrees while I work. I do NOT like being cold!

So all in all, lots of work and lots of effort but we love doing it.  Every year during the three drama performances, we receive an offering to benefit a person, organization, or church in the community. This year, the offerings will go to the fire fighters and policemen in Roanoke Island.

And so ends my Monday Randomness. Have a great week!

Hehehe… I love that Steve can’t even PRETEND to be a bad guy for very long!

Loved the pictures. Meagan sure does look radient. I love the way Noah is hard at work, keeping up with the “big boys”! Looks like your church production is going to be awesome! Wish I could be there to see it in person.

There is just something about the glow of an expectant mom that makes me smile. Megan sure does look happy. As far as the phone booth, I have no idea when I last saw one.

  4. Karen says:

There is a phone booth in Rockwell Iowa drive by it every month when I visit the grocery store

    • Becky says:

      Karen,

Wow–that is a rare sight, indeed! You can consider yourself blessed to get to view a piece of Americana on your way to the grocery store. 🙂

  5. Melissa says:

The local Wal-Mart here in Sebring, FL still has a pay phone, but not a booth. I was in London in February and of course saw tons of the iconic red ones, but my English friend who lives there said that most of them aren’t used as phone booths any more, and some are registered historic items and you aren’t even supposed to touch or go in them, though I never saw any signs or other warnings to that effect.

    • Becky says:

      Melissa,

How interesting that many of those booths are not used any more. I wonder what they will eventually end up doing with them. When you called them “iconic” you were right on the money–you see one and immediately think of England, a place I would LOVE to go! 🙂

  6. Ann Martin says:

Enjoyed the pictures. Miss the phone booths.

    • Becky says:

      Ann,

I miss the booths too; I remember running into them as a teenager when it started raining unexpectedly. I also remember making many a call from them!

  7. The last phone box I saw was in England in January. 🙂

  8. Mrs. Pam says:

I think Noah’s rake might be mashing those leaves…
last phone booth was probably the great red ones in London..20+ years ago.
another outstanding Easter production, that’s for sure!

    • Becky says:

      Mrs. Pam,

That made me smile with the mashing of the leaves. Meagan commented when she posted the picture on FB that he had his rake upside down. I love how children just naturally find their own way of doing things.

Twenty years since a phone booth? At least your last sighting was an interesting one!

  9. Guerrina says:

On no! I can’t remember the last time I saw a phone booth! Meagan is the cutest pregnant woman ever! This looks like it will be an amazing Easter production.

  10. LeeAnne says:

Oh my…..cuteness galore!! Meagan is just adorable! 🙂

In a park that is close to our house, there is a concrete wading pool for the little kids and is free to use. And right by the pool is a pay phone!! It’s not in a booth. It’s sort of free-standing, but I marvel at it every time I ride my bike past it and wonder who would use it in today’s age of cell phones. (Children must be accompanied by an adult at the pool, so if there were an emergency one would think that someone would have a cell phone to call for help. Hmmm.) Next time I go by I plan to stop and take a closer look because I have no idea what a phone call costs now. And I wonder if a child would even know how to use it. 😉

    • Becky says:

      LeeAnne,

That’s a good point about a child not even knowing how to use a pay phone. Most of them would probably not even know what it was. I don’t know about you, but that makes me feel pretty old! 🙂
