Snowy Goes To College Series (Part 1)

Life’s been crazy folks, that’s all there is to it.   And as much as I love blogging, I’m afraid that the aforementioned Crazy Life has not given me much time to do it.

We were without Internet at home for 10 days, Steve’s been sick in bed all weekend, I worked 10 hours on Saturday (which is supposed to be a day off), I handled a lot of “Steve duties” yesterday morning in church since he wasn’t there, and today I am off to Greenville for three doctor appointments–mammogram, plastic surgeon and oncologist.  (All just routine check ups.)  And tomorrow morning I’m starting work with a designer to do a minor redesign of the blog. (Since the header I have up right now is just homemade and temporary.)

The Book Contest? It’s Ending Soon!

During the past couple of days, you guys have mentioned some really great books in the Comments Section.  I have so enjoyed not just reading the titles you love but also the reasons behind why you love them.  It’s nice to know Smithellaneous-ites are book lovers.

As promised, the book drawing will be announced tomorrow by noon.  Check back in to see if you are the winner of a fabulous locally written book autographed by not one, not two, but THREE people!     How fun is that?

In the meantime, I don’t know if I’ve posted this picture already but I put it on my desktop this morning and have just loved catching a glimpse of it throughout the day.  It has such a lovely glow that it makes feel equally glow-y.  (Or maybe my glow is just because of oily skin.  Who knows?)

But at any rate, I prefer to think that I (and the picture) are both aglow.

See you back here tomorrow morning.

Win A Book!

Edited to Add:  All entries need to be in by Wednesday night; drawing will be Thursday.  I’ve enjoyed all your wonderful book comments so far!

A few posts ago, I wrote about a children’s book I had recently bought that was written and illustrated by a father/son team who live here in Manteo.

Many of you commented about the book so I have decided that you wonderful Smithellaneous readers should  have a chance to win it!

A Snowy Report.

This morning when Snowy still wasn’t noticeably better I called the vet for an appointment.   While waiting to take him in I looked up “Canine Cough” on the Interet and then discussed with Steve what Snoyw’s kind of bad cough could indicated in a dog of his age, and with his liver, kidney and heart issues.

Suffice it to say, I was in tears just ten seconds into the conversation as we discussed the possibilities of pneumomia, a collapsed trachea and congestive heart failure.   How is that a dog can have such a pull on one’s heart?

Small Towns. Wars. And Picture Books.

If you live in a small town like we do, you can probably list a whole line up of small town benefits.

One of my personal favorite things about small towns is small town people–the local legends, the characters, the long time residents who know every bit of history that makes up the town in which they live.

I met one of those fascinating small town people yesterday when I stopped by Herbert “Hubby” Blivin’s shop (situated handily in his back yard) to ask him to mat a photograph of Sarah’s for a school art show.  Isn’t it lovely?

What A Day

Steve has been at the church for about thirteen hours today working on sets and lighting for the Easter drama.  Needless to say, he came home absolutely wiped out.

When he walked in the door at 8 pm he looked at me and said with an exhausted sigh that came all the way up from the bottom of his toes, “What a day.”

Then he paused and with even more of a sigh he said it again. “What a day.”

Yep!  Meagan just landed a teaching position at an excellent Christian Academy in Winter Haven and will be starting on March 19.

Meagan–we’re so proud of you!  Those students of yours don’t know what a blessing they’re in for.

Megift

You’ve heard of a regift? Well, last week, I did a megift.

As most of you know, I’m  a frugal person.   I get 90% of my clothes at thrift/consignment stores and I have been known to break out into hives at the very thought of having to think about even considering the possibility of maybe having to possibly walk into an actual mall.

A Wee Favor?

First of all, thanks a bunch of billions for the birthday wishes left here for me today.  I feel very loved, appreciated and also very fifty-ish.

This afternoon I treated myself to an outing to a favorite thrift store and then I got a manicure, something I’ve only done two or three times in my whole life.  (The manicure that is.  Not the thrift store.)

Okay, on to the favor.
